My Quest For the Ultimate Grow Cab

When my long-time best friend told me he is getting a new house and wants to grow, I knew I was going to have a good summer. It's my dream come true, I'm in complete control of the design and best of all there is ABSOLUTELY NO BUDGET!!! I know, these opportunities come along once in a life time...

So after a nice session and some dicussion we have already decided on the basics. The first go around with seed, he will do a half-assed SCROG(on purpose, though) to choose proper mothers. From there on out, its perpetual SOG. Of course it's hydro, and the system of choice is... my new DWC/aero hybrid that should take the hassle out of aeroponics.

Strains:
Serious Seeds - Kali Mist
Paradise Seeds - Belladonna
Soma Seeds - G-13 x Buddha's Sister
DJ Short - True Blueberry

Flowering Chamber is 3 x 2.5 x 3.5 (L x D x H)
Lighting: 600w Hortilux HPS w/ Daystar AC Reflector(Is the hype true? Do they really keep temps 3-5 degrees lower?)
Ventilation: Vortex 6" 449 CFM on speed controller
Odor Control: Carbon Scrubber and Vaportek 4000

Basically, if you can improve upon this in any way possible, please suggest it. This is meant to be the penthouse of grow cabs so I want the best options available.

Congrats on the good news and hopefully you will come to enjoy this as much as the rest of us.

With no budget you can look into controllers, monitors, light movers, all sorts of nutrients, and best of all CO2 generators. Don't forget the veg chamber and or mother room, if you've got the space. Since you have the time to over-engineer this then look into redundant cooling+fans+lights.

Grow big!

I'd consider a cool tube.I love mine.I have a little more room than you but am using a 600 hps hortilux sunmaster with the 449 vortex on a spd controller.I barely have it on and its great.Almost too efficient.I have to use a heater to keep my area above 70 degrees.Good luck..sounds like fun.I'd get the atmosphere controller too if moneys no object.

If budget is not an option, why not give yourself a little bigger space to work with so you're not limited on genetics that will fit in that space. With only 3.5ft of headroom you're going to be limited on what you can run, also take into account that the lamp is going to use up some of that space along with the distance the 600w needs to be from the canopy.

Yes i think your going to be pushing it at that height too, don't suppose you can add a few more vertical feet?

Thanks for the comments, but to clear a couple things up... I do not want to automate this system very much, meaning no ph/co2 controllers because I really don't have a problem keeping the conditions stable. They will be monitored everyday very closely. Also, the chamber height is sufficient considering this is a SOG grow. I'm not so much worried about design issues as I am the quality of his equipment. I'm asking for suggestions and testimonials for or against the equipment I have or you can think of.

kaneh bosm I only made mention of your height restriction because if you figure 1ft vert is taken up approx by the hood, then you need some distance from the tops of the plants 8-12 inches if you can really cool that sucker, and that only leaves you with 1.5 ft vert from the floor up. Whatever pots you use will also add height to your system further shortening the room you have to work with. You'll be looking at only 1ft of vertical room to work with which isn't going to allow you to flower anything that stretches even the slightest amount. Even with 3 days veg from rooted clones some plants will easily clear the 2-3ft mark. I only suggest adding more height to the cab so you can have a wider variety of strains at your disposal.

I agree. I run a 600 watt setup w/ a daystar ac using a 265 dayton. My height is 8 feet. The incoming temps are 67F and the temp at the tops of plants are 85F. The tops are 12" from glass

Well, no more responses are necessary I guess because everyone likes to talk about the flowering chamber height. I guess I will spell it out. 3.5 feet is from the top of container plants will be held in to the roof, a daystar will take no more than 1 ft and that leaves me with 1 1/2 - 2 ft of cola, and I won't be runnin them that tall anyways.. I feel insulted with some of these responses, to be honest...

I have those same components in a hydrohut mini and temps are only about 3* above room temp. thats a solid set up

Might I suggest a thicker skin? You asked for our suggestions and we gave them. If that is insulting to you then... I hope things work out for you and your buddies grow cab.

Let's not be too harsh guys. No one meant any harm kaneh. Your setup will definitely grow some nice buds. Ya got to work with what you've got, right?
