My New Fridge.....Check It Out

About six months ago, I became sick and tired of the shitty, over priced weed my regular dealer was selling me. So much so, that I decided to get off my ass and finally do something about it. After much thought and planning, I've finally decided to take the plunge and start my own stealthy indoor grow. I could have easily built a room and concealed it in my basement, but for a number of reasons, I decided against it. After a great deal of searching, I was lucky enough to find a used, oversized fridge for a very cheap price--free--, and started modifying. I installed a 1000 watt HPS with an air cooled hood. I figured that if Caroll Shelby could stuff a small block V-8 Ford in a small British AC two-seater roadster, then I figured I could stuff a 1000 watt HPS inside a fridge, and make it work. I then installed a powerful Hurricane fan to vent the light, and a 6" muffin fan to vent the veg chamber. After purchasing a 300 CFM carbon filter, I installed it into an aluminum garbage can that I bought @ Home Depot. I then mounted another fan on top of the garbage can to draw all the stinky air from the veg chamber, through the carbon filter, and into the cold air duct of my furnace. I then suspended the entire garbage can from two joists with some tie-downs. I found that this helped to supress noise and vibration.

I decided to go with a aeroponic hydro system, with a seperate 60 litre nute resevoir, attached to the outside of the fridge. I had 3 seperate air pumps powering 2 air stones oxygenating the H2O in the nute resevoir, and a long 48" air tube in the resevoir inside the fridge, oxygenating directly to the roots.

For genetics, I chose Misty and Papaya from Nirvana, and Bogglegum from BOG Seeds. All the Misty's turned out to be male's and got the knife. Only one Papaya turned out to be a female. My one lone Bogglegum turned into one beautiful monster of a indica. In the end, I harvested well over 275 grams from the Bogglegum, and around 130 grams from the Papaya, both dried and manicured. Here are some pics.

Nice job Stelth is great. I was still a bit worried about the 1000 watter in a frig but you did a good job....

Shoe horn in a 1000w light into a fridge, awesome.

I like your style Squid.

Hell, Shelby had a side oiler 427 in there at one point. So, you can cram some more light in there, I think. What about the Boss429 with those giant Boss heads? That ate an engine compartment up.

Good show Squid

After I harvested both plants, there were still many budding site's that were either partially or completely shaded from the light. That's how thick most of the top bud canopy was. I decided to re-veg and re-flower both plant's. It's now been 21 days, 12/12 light, and a regimen of flowering nute cocktail's. The Papaya had the most under developed bud site's, and had a big head start on the Bogglegum. It has simply exploded in new growth, already showing some big, fat cola's....:D :D now that it's actually getting some light.

The Bogglegum is taking much longer to come back, but I wouldn't count it out quite yet. This morning, I counted over 100 different node's that were beginning to re-flower, and sprout new white hair's....again.....:D :D

Round 2.....Day 36

Round 2.....Day 36

Both of my plant's have now had 36 days to try and recoup from their mega harvest. I've tweaked the light schedule, and they now receive 15 on / 9 off, and nute cocktails are served @ 900 ppm. I was beginning to become disheartened by the re-growth shown by the Bogglegum, but as always, patience is the key, and it's starting to pay off. The smaller popcorn buds that I purposely left behind after harvest are now starting to sprout new growth. A dead bract, yellowy-gold in color, will begin to turn purple, then green, and new growth emerges. All it takes is one lone bract, popping open and shooting out tiny leaves, and you're in business.

Day 42

Day 42

I have now been re-veging & re-flowering for 42 days. Some of my new growth now is more vegetative than flowering, with some bract's opening up, and sprouting out a new node's & new branch's. Look closely at the first pic.....:alien: :alien: :alien:

Most of the new growth on my Bogglegum appears in clusters of new buds, close together. Some of the new growth is quite freaky in apppearance, with new nodes and leaves growing right next to maturing buds.

My Papaya plant has much more buds on it that have formed fat, chunky, freaky looking cola's, covered in trich's....:D

Day 54

Day 54

I have set my light timer back to 12/12 now since the beginning of the week. I still have some wierd, freaky looking growth on both plants, but things are looking really good. The Bogglegum, as always, has bounced back with its usual vigor, sprouting out abundant new growth with lots of new leaf and nodes.... :D :D

Stay tuned....some big fat Bogglegum colas are starting to form....:D :D

nice scruber bro.....

do you run the fridge to keep it cool?.....lol

you should post spec's on that trash you got.....
(how you did the lid)

Thats the whole Idea 00420. The fridge with the compressor running keeps the temps at ideal ranges. Never do you have to worry about things getting too hot, especially in the summer.

I'm pretty sure the guts have been taken out of the fridge.

Kasmier is correct....all the cooling equipment has been taken out of the fridge. I have 2 exhaust fans, one of which runs 24/7 (the one mounted directly on top of the scrubber), and one that cycles on/off with the help of a commercial grade refrigeration thermostat, to keep the temp's under control when the light is on.
At night, I use a small ceramic heater to ensure 20 C temp's. At then end of the flowering cycle, I will stop using the ceramic heater, allowing temps to go as low as 16 C, encouraging my cola's to turn purple.....:D

My temps never exceed 30 C, but as I've discovered in my first harvest, when my cola's get too big, temp's become much harder to control.
