My intro and bona fides...

Yesterday was another beautiful sunny day here in the PNW. I was checking out my outdoor girls and noticed that my Cascadian Frost showed a tiny bit of bud rot/mold in one bud. It was deep inside and not one of the outer buds. So I decided to chop her now rather than wait until Thursday. She has such fat, big buds I know it won't take too long before I have lots of bud rot/mold.

Because CF is not one of the seed mothers but I decided to take down all the seed mothers too. I have lots of mature seeds and it makes no sense to let them go any longer. I doubt if there is an immature seed to be found on these ladies.

I still have the Neon Purps in the hoop house but she is the only one left from this summer's outdoor grow. It has been a good learning experience and I'm going to be better prepared for next summer.

Right now I'm beginning to see those maple leaves hitting my yard. The trees are about half dead/dying leaves so it won't be much longer now until I will be able to build my compost pile.

I do my drying in a storage area in my little house. I have a portable heater in there to keep the temperature in the low 70's. I place a non-oscillating fan to blow air under the plants. It usually takes about 7 days for the plants to dry. Here is what it looks like with the outdoor ladies hanging.

Got the good jars! Nice!

In your storage room, what's the one in the front?

I can pack up some of my heat for you...trying to keep my drying stuff cool.

what has your eye and nose so far?

That left front lady has the look of a plant with a bunch of dead leaves, doesn't it? It is my coleus hybrid (aka Goblin Girl) that I had in my hoop house. She was the first to show signs of bud rot/mold and I didn't catch it soon enough. The color is from the yellow leaves and reminds me of the Acapulco Gold from the old days. I'm trimming her and tossing the bud rot and throwing the good buds into my trimming can. I'll use what's in my trimming can to make IWE hash.

The coleus hybrid, Cascasdian Frost and Neon Purps (still in the hoop house) are the only ones that weren't seeded. The others are my seed mothers. I'm really curious about the CF. She had such nice fat bud but this is my first time with her. She was a seedling so I'm loving the structure and hoping that the quality is there to make her a keeper.

The Mazar-I-Shariff x Guerrero has my eye too. I'm actually more interested in seeing what will pop from her seeds. My males were sativa dominant and so is this lady. So 3 of the 4 grandparents for those F1 seeds are old school genetics.

All but the Goblin Queen smell like that dank marijuana. GQ smells like grapes. It makes my little house smell pretty dank right now. Good thing the grand kids are teenagers and don't want to hang with grandpa that much.

The mazar shots have been my favorite!

Maybe if they knew what grandpa was a-doing they'd come a knocking... just kidding bud!!

I got two GQ seeds coming up, run them indoors to see what they bare.

I usually just run plants from seed outdoors, throw clones out during the summer for bumper/hash crop.

I'm curious about the Mazar myself. You must like those sativa dominant hybrids. I hope she turns out to be a keeper. I've got one in my cellar right now. She's in the flower area but I'm veg'ging her and her companions. I'm waiting until I get back from the pool tournament before I flip them.

My grandkids saw the coleus hybrid (aka Goblin Girl) that I was growing with my tomatoes. They just don't know how much I'm growing. I don't hide the fact that I've got a medical marijuana card. They know about my back pain and the problems it causes with my sleep. I'm just trying to keep them away from it until they are old enough to decide for themselves. It's a fine line to walk that's for sure.

My GQ from a seed turned out to have some beautiful structure to her. I think the quality is good but I had to take her earlier than I would have wanted to. So you should find a nice plant from those GQ seeds.

I simply treat mine as any other of my plants... I certainly dont allow "playing" with my orchids... why would cannabis be any different? I dont treat them as if they were toxic, nor do I encourage my kids to either see or not see them... they are my plants, same as the aloe and orchids and mints and every other damn thing.... they are mine and I expect them left alone. I think that treating them as if they were toxic only fosters curiosity in kids.... its just a plant... not special... aside from if you should so happen to set it on fire, there may be some effects...

I agree with both your approaches. Grew up without much conversation and lots of grey areas. Know my bunny is going to see my plants, they're in the garden amongst everything else. They are plants, and just like all other drugs (caffeine, alcohol, tobacco) can be explored when they are mature, but have knowledge about what they do & are. Not have some built-up mystery around them, just to use b/c they're "for-bodden"

well thats what I mean... I make no distinction from one plant to the next, and the general rule is "leave daddys plants alone"... plus having more in the house than just cannabis makes it much easier...

I'm not as concerned about my grandson (14) as I am about my granddaughter (15). She is hanging with the pseudo gang bangers and I don't trust her to not let something slip about what I've got in my hoop house.

I've told her not to talk about it and I hope I can count on her. Anyway, I took those jars full of my herb and cleaned them down to just less than an ounce between the 6 jars. If someone does come to steal my herb they'll only get a little. The rest is stashed out in the forest in ammo cans so they won't be able to find my real stash.

I'm also trying to keep her from making a mistake that will follow her the rest of her life. But at 15 she's going to do whatever she decides and there isn't much I can do about it.

I whole-heartedly agree! No need to index at the library...
But try putting a you tube video acct history on a resume! Hey might land a job.

My point was to wait until one was of legal age/locale or at least not under parent's care or roof.

"Do it sober"

PAK my apologies if we've gotten too off topic here, we can flash the lights and get back to the show/matters at hand.

& it seems like you've done a lot good in respect to your Grand-daughter. Positive role model, honest influences and people that hold each other accountable are the bees knees. to put it short and sweet...

Thanks, I do have a good relationship with my granddaughter and she talks pretty openly with me. At this point in her life I have to just be available and hope she doesn't make a decision that has serious consequences. I remember when I was that age I didn't listen to my parents and did what I wanted. It's typical teenager behavior.

No need to apologize. Sometimes it's nice to talk about other things than growing.

Speaking of which, I just sampled some of the Cascadian Frost and it seems to have good quality. CF is a back cross breeding between The One and Blue Moon Rocks. So I'd expect it to be good. She isn't quite dried so I'll await final judgement after the cure is done. She may be a keeper.

that's the TO x BMR right? so good. reminds me of some high school nugs I used to get back in high school.

so....
my kids don't know what daddy grows ... at least I hope. their grandfather has talked to them about it though. ( when they caught us smoking together) he tells them it's something that their dad and grandad do. but, I feel like he has more influence on them than I do. they are 10 and 12.

like most of you guys I grow more than just ganja. so, it's just like daddy's hobby is growing plants not just the green ones.

I feel for you pak. I know what it's like trying to trust family members with your growing secret. My sister likes to get drunk and boast. " You like that? well, my brother grew it." is the last thing I want to hear at a party. especially in the state I live in.

i guess it's a cross all of us growers have to bear.

congrats on your harvest.

totally agreed with all, the other day I was tending "daddys plants" (while being mr. mom/kids at home) and my little one stumbles in and for support grabs a hold of my Khalisi girl and ass over tea kettle they both go, my oldest one runs in grabs the lil one and say "No No No those are daddys tomato plants if you hurt em then they will never grow tomatos". I had to giggle ( manly giggle) while saying honey these will be flowers.
I tell em these are dads and dont touch the veggies outside you can help me with when I am there.
Its a fine line to walk to be truthful but discreet, I remember my father and I (20+ years ago) trimming and he was truthful with me about it and in those times there were no med cards.

Sorry Pak for adding to the off topic, topic

Disclaimer: No kids or plants were hurt in the making of this story..lol they both bounced back.

Thanks about the harvest. I'm getting a better understanding about growing with the micro-herd and I'm learning these new strains I have.

I never had too much trouble with my kids because when they were 6 and 8 when I got a fireman job so I quit smoking in those days until they got to be 16-18 or so. Then I was only smoking late at night when my back was hurting enough to make it impossible to fall back to sleep.

Now the grandkids are a little different. My wife and I have spent a lot of time raising them because their dad is a single parent. The mother is currently in prison because she has a meth habit that she supports with burglary and car theft. They think the world of her and at 14 and 15 it's hard to get them to see the reality of her world.

So I try to be a positive influence with them and growing marijuana is something that I wanted to hold off on letting them know about until they're a little older. Their dad has a MMJ card from a back injury he got when he crashed his car drunk. So they know about his MMJ usage. I'm in good with both of them so I'm hoping that they keep their mouths shut.

Today I'm heading out for a 9-ball tournament in Lincoln City, Oregon. I'm playing the the senior singles and team events. I won't be home until next Sunday night.

When I get back I'll be deciding whether or not to flip the teenagers in the flower area. The Mazar-I-Shariff x Guerrero and Goblin Queen #2 are getting tall and I may put them into one of the new flower areas and let the other 4 veg a little longer. I'll get a picture up when I come home.

Anyone can post about anything in this journal. Just follow the rules for the site is all I ask. I like reading people's opinion on topics like this.

I made it down to Lincoln City just in time for the rain to start. For those of you who have no idea about what it's like to be at a pool tournament here is a shot of the room.

This is a regional event. The one I've gone to in Las Vegas is 3 times as big. This is only about 80 tables.
