My first "real" grow

I had grown many years before but knew tons less than I do now. I'm surprised I was able to grow what I did then in the ez-bake oven of a cabinet I used. Not that I know everything now, but from lurking on these forums the past few years, I have certainly learned everything I did wrong, lol.

I have one lone female from some old Nirvana seeds I had, not too sure what the strain is though since I didn't mark them, growing in a 3 gallon hempy bucket using the lucas formula. I ran into a problem with what I read was too much nitrogen and ended up with the 'claw'. I flushed it and fed it half the dose the next feeding. I also didn't give it cal mag that one time and it seemed pissed at me for it by a bunch of leaves yellowing big time, after only a day. The last watering I gave it some and so far I haven't seen any new claws or the same excessive yellowing. Obviously I still need to learn a lot ,lol.

Anyway, this is part of it from a couple of nights ago, the tail-end of the 3rd week of flowering. Does it more or less look like it's supposed to?

Looks like everything is going better then expected for 3 weeks in. Too bad you didn't know the strain. Looking forward to your finishing pictures :)

Welcome to ICMag Mr. Bong..be sure to stop by and visit the Hempy bucket thread and good luck growing

i would pluck those yellow leaves before fungus or bugs get a foothold. other than that you look very good @ 3weeks.
it kinda looks like pictures of Aruora Indica i've seen but who knows lol

good luck on your grow

I took the advice and got rid of the yellowing leaves. Luckily I haven't seen the same rate of yellowing I was experiencing before, but when do they start turning yellow naturally and how long does it usually take from green to yellow then? I've also remembered they are either northern lights x big bud, white rhino, or ak48. :dunno:

Here's a new shot of her top, 3 days into the 4th week. Thanks for the welcome and the responses! :tiphat:

nice one!

Not to sure, if thats yelling from lack of nutes, or the PH is a little low, and not taking up the available ones. There is a point in the leaf life cycle were if more of the leaf is dyeing than is healthy, the healthy leaves try to fix the sick ones... So when you plucked off all the yellow leaves, and still noticed them going yellow... time to add a little nitrogen...

Looks like you might be running close to an 8 week strain, so make sure you give a couple weeks flush!

i would agree with rico and guess thats a 8-10 week strain. i would think around week 7 you should start to see the leaves yellow up or at least start to get a lighter shade of green. start flushing around then and in about 2 weeks they should be looking yellow and ready to harvest

Well, it's been another week and while the yellowing hasn't stopped totally, it seems to have slowed down some at least. I'm giving it full nutes and calmag again and hopefully that'll keep it alive until it can finish...? To answer the captain's question, it vegged for about 10 weeks, 2+ longer than I intended but my flower cab wasn't ready.

I noticed these spots a couple of days ago, but luckily I don't see it anywhere else on the plant. Yet, lol.

Any ideas? Something else I have to worry about now? :nono:

Thanks for the comments and help guys. Here's an update pic.

hard to tell what the spots are under the HPS light. do/did you spray your plants? is that near the top of the plant or the bottom? is it just an isolated area or do you see it elsewhere? it kinda looks like heat damage caused by a bead of water. it could be Calcium issues as well, but ive always seen smaller spots on my leaves. your leaves are still yellowing, but if you had claw, which i believe is an Nitrogen toxicity symptom, you shouldnt need any more N for a lil while. im curious on what your run off pH is after you water next time.

It's now the middle of the 6th week. The yellowing still hasn't stopped but I haven't seen any more new claws forming still either. I haven't checked the runoff but I've been trying to keep the ph around 6. Should I try to go lower or higher? Also, is it too late/early to flush if there is any buildup? As far as the spots, I've never sprayed it and the only other place I can see anything like it is on the opposite side, where it's also being pushed up against the wall. Could it be leaf damage from that? Otherwise it seems to be doing it's thing. I guess, lol. At this point I'm just hoping it lives through til harvest. How much bigger should I expect the buds to get these next few weeks?

it will finish for sure, and you will enjoy every bit of it lol. if you keep your pH around 6 you should be fine, the yellowing wont stop idk. in a bout 2-3 weeks they should start to slow down and the yellowing might start up again, this is normal. its your plant telling you its almost finished and you should start your flush. get yourself an handscope or a magnifying glass and start watching your glands
im sure someone here has an image of clear, cloudy, and amber gland for you to reference

About a week and half since the last update. Now at day 2 of week 8. The yellowing continues but it's still chugging along and the buds have gotten a little bigger. Not sure exactly when I'm supposed to flush and then harvest it. I have the pics showing the different trichome colors and so far they seem to be sorta cloudy already, but no signs of any amber yet. A lot of the pistils that haven't turned orange are starting to go back into the calyx, which I understand is something else to look for...?

Provided I don't screw up the drying and curing, yes, I am definitely going to enjoy the shit out of every little bit of it, lol.
And I would love to have a roomie that can grow like FreezerBoy - but alas the wife says no, lol. Thanks for all the props guys!
