Yeah HydroSun I dunno when it's going to slow down, we are over a hump for now but due to the way the market and lending is going we have to work twice as hard to get half the deals to go through. I can't complain at all, many people in my field would kill to have this amount of traffic in their business right now.
Believe me I would love to have some more time and do more on IC, maybe if I can get caught up I could make it to the PK Cup.
Hey Transplant, yeah online seems to be the only good source for square buckets, they are expensive. USPlastics is good & somebody dropped some links to some big ones back on like page 5 or this thread or so.
On the grow front, that bottle of bad nutes really had me doubting myself and I figure I lost at least a month due to that crap. Stupid. I had read somewhere that floranova was only good for a year and I believe it now but I still think I got like 1.5 years out of one bottle. Won't risk it again.
Going lucas (using FNB only) def works better for me in these buckets, the FNG was just too hot. Growth is exploding now after they recovered. A couple of the late dead-looking clones I put in may or may not do anything. Funny the one I stuck in the 500 GPH chiller return bucket was the smallest and is taking off fast now but the other 2 still look like sticks. That bucket is like magic.
I yanked the hermi prone one today, it kept throwing balls and I just don't need any more problems with this grow and would rather have a bucket empty if I have to. I moved one of the big ones into the hermi's bucket to even things out and help fill the screen better.
Got a few pics here with the lights off so they are a lil droopy then I scrogged the shit out of them. I made sure to get a lil rootporn so you could check out the medium-less action. This will probably be the only root shots till harvest, now that they are scrogged out I can't lift the lid much at all, just enough to peek in or slip a hand in tight.
Been letting them grow straight up, time to scrog:
This one's the biggest, it's a #1:
Here's a #2 plant:
Here's the other big ones, the one on the left is the hermi and I pulled it right after this, I moved the one in the bucket across from it to even out the sides some:
Medium-less DWC roots, this is that #2 plant from above:
Same rootball, lighter added for reference LOL:
The new A/C unit and I never showed the chiller install, made a duct for the back and it sticks out the wall to keep the heat out:
Here's a #1 that autoflowered, I whacked it down to the nub and it is vegging now, pretty big roots so it should take off soon:
The little clone in the chiller output bucket, taking off now:
Here's that big #1 right before I bent that bitch over:
AFTER:
That #2 after scrogging:
The #4 that went in the hermi's bucket:
The #6 on the end:
Group shot after scrogging's done:
And the 2 crappy clones that probably won't make the show LOL:
Sucks about the A/C going out and the losses, I am not getting to run the #3 or #5 plants this run. The #1 plant autoflowers heavy when stressed at all so unless it's some real fire I will probably be dropping it. I have two #1s in the buckets, one got huge quick and the other autoflowered from the bad nutes so I chopped it off down to the bottom 2 nodes and it is vegging back now, the roots are pretty big so I expect it to blow up any day now. I had the lights up high til they got going good and just dropped them down some today.
I am only going to veg for a couple more days to help the lil ones catch up some and then finally flip this fucker. Think I can still bring in a good run here and maybe break my old record due to the strain but still not as good as if I had 8 big ones to run. Got the cloner fixed today and taking cuts tonight to start vegging for the next run where I plan to feature #3, 4 and 5 plants heavily since I am running 3 of the #6 this time.
Hi Transplant, normally I pre-veg in another system and like to move them into the buckets at 12-18" and then veg in the buckets for one week before flipping. I have clones rooting now so I should have my 12-18" pre-vegged clones for the next run and will be back on track.
Yes I just use the neoprene pucks to hold the plants in the buckets, they don't really give any support when the plants get bigger so you have to have a screen or something. Yes, I later added airstones to the bucket system. I have run without them before but they don't cost much and you can never have too much air.
Turbo, the water level in the buckets all stay the same since they are connected by the big drain pipe and water seeks its own level.
Cheers daemos, Happy Holidays to you my friend.
GROW UPDATE:
Things are humming along now, I vegged a lil longer than I said and now have that "Oh Shit I vegged too long" feeling LOL.
All of the plants are growing more than 1" a day across all the tips and I won't have any problems filling out the screen with fewer plants. Keeping the PPM under 650, anything higher was burning the tips very slightly. I will try to bump it up in a week or so maybe. They are drinking around 75 PPM a day.
I flipped them a couple of days ago and the 18th was their first real day of 12/12. I am going to fill the screen and hope to time it right to give it a little more vertical growth at the end of stretch instead of the tight carpet style I normally do.
Here are some pics taken 3-4 days ago, almost 1 week exactly from the last set. A few pics before I scrogged them down again and a few pics after, some lights on, some off:
Before scrogging:
The biggest one, that #1 plant:
The #2 plant (liking this one):
Canopy-level shot:
After scrogging:
Close up of foliage:
The little #1 that autoflowered and got topped is vegging back nice now:
The big #1 all scrogged out:
The #2 after scrogging:
The rest:
Crazy chiller bucket return plant is blowing up now, should fill it's little corner:
And the 2 little clones that were at death's door are greening up now but won't fill much screen out LOL:
Better shot of the left side scroggin:
That's it for now, we are on Day 2 of flower. I predict 2 more scrog sessions a week apart and hopefully that will be it.
Good idea Transplant, if I do another setup with more headroom I will probably run these buckets vertically, but if medium-less you will need a really good way to support trees. I am thinking tomato cage fastened to each bucket.
Hey MONKEYCANCER, wow 1st post ever in my thread, thanks. I have only done like 4 grows in these buckets and have only run around .75 GPW as there is always some issue on my part, not the system. I have no doubt that I will hit 1 GPW soon and I'm not even running CO2. Won't be this run though, see below.
It was always something every run, I had fungus gnats eat me up one time when I didn't know it, 1st couple runs was burning the shit out of stuff and having issues getting started because I didn't understand how low the PPMs needed to be, too much N in the mix, etc.
For example this latest run starting back up I used expired nutes and had all kinds of lockout issues, airconditioner failed, etc. My latest MAJOR FUCKUP was in sexing.
Turns out my biggest plant, that big #1 that I have been showing the most-- grew a few balls. SHIT. Then a few more, and more, and I started looking and there weren't any pistils anywhere! WTF? The #1 next to it was throwing hairs everywhere and no balls. WTF? I go to my notes and turns out that big plant was actually not a #1, it was a #3 and it's a big-balled male.
It didn't throw any balls until well into flowering so I must have thought I saw a hair somewhere at some point LOL. So I had to yank that big mofo out, I lost more than 1/3 of the screen doing this so this run will not be great either. It's the side under my 1K too.
The rest of the screen filled up nicely, didn't stretch as much as I thought it would prolly due to the lower N, so it didn't go as vertical as I wanted but oh well.
I will get some pics of the canopy up tonight when lights come on, I have been tucking a lot of fan leaves and trimming a few to open up budsites but I really need to trim it a lil heavier tonight.
I have also been waiting on a shipment with my floralicious and more importantly my KoolBloom which I should have started using a week ago but weather has delayed my shipment I guess.
Here is a pic of that rootball of that stupid #3 male I pulled two weeks ago. It was really bad HPS glow on it so I tried to fix the color some in photoshop.
As you can see medium-less really is a hassle-free way to grow and this is why I wouldn't use anything less than a 5+ gal bucket for DWC. This is basically after 2 weeks of veg on a slightly pre-vegged clone and one week of flower:
OK nobody wants to read all that shit^ they just want to see buds LOL. Had a few too many drinks last night to get anything done so I did some more trimming this A.M. and snapped some pics right when the lights went off.
Day 25, still waiting on my KoolBloom:
The big empty spot where the male came out:
The little dark green one there is a lil overfed, that's the one that autoflowered and I chopped the top off, it was way behind but has a nice spot to itself under the 1K LOL:
Still got a lil more trimming to make sure no leaves are touching budsites and I have to get my big oscillating fan up there tonight.
Hate that big empty spot in the screen now but I am getting these 4 females sorted and the next run will be full. Hope my KoolBloom gets here today.
lookin good lb, definitely a + on the koolbloom, and mediumless is pretty interesting. Seems pretty hassle free although plants do need support and I wonder if they need a medium to harbor bacteria. Im sure with your aquarium backround you have it figured out and could shed some light, cheers!!
Let me begin by complimenting you on not only a brilliant system but a superlative ability to express why and how it works and the patience to keep all interested parties up to speed...people like you keep these communities thriving
I have every intention of mimicking your design for the feed lines in the next iteration of my system and would really appreciate your input on one small matter:
How long does pvc glue/cement need to outgas?
I assume that fish are more sensitive than plants and as such I hope that you are the guy to ask. A million thanks in advance.
whats up lb looking great what kind of buckets are they i couldnt find square buckets like those when i was settin up did u make the system urself im likin hydrosuns trash cans but dont have the room my 5gal buckets are great just wish they were larger and square like urs best of luck stay green
