you need to stress them out. underwater them. turn the lights off for three days. then turn them back on. it might take a couple of times. they will herm on you.

there are quite a few methods to make your female plants produce female seeds as stated above.

i was lead to believe that if you make a flowering female self polinate herself then the resulting genetics will be female due to the fact that the pollen will come from a female with all the chromosones needed to produce the female seeds.
i think you can also get her to self polinate and use the pollen on your other female plants to again produce more female seeds..

another method is to use colidal silver technique but if you do a search on here there ia a guide on how to produce femized seeds and its pretty simple

hope this helps

seems like such a imporant discovery on how to make fem seeds should be more talked about over the rest of the nonsense on theese threads, but hey the sites owned by a seedbank, anything of any value probally get deleted so we can argue about poor germ rates n jiffy cubes and what wallmart cfl bulb is the best.

I find that when Im looking for a higher male count for breeding. Soke seeds 24 - 48 hrs. do the paper towel on a plate with a bowl for a lid or in a zip lock bag method. I keep my temp's on the warmer side. When I germ with coler temps. They take a lil longer to sprout but I get a higher female raito. Give it a try, see how it work out for you?

You just dug up a three year old thread to give advice three years late, FYI. Check the date of the last post on a thread to see if it's still relevant before posting.

Oh, any by the way, herming is NOT how to make female seeds, it's how to make more hermi seeds. Reversing a fully female plant that you found after stress testing to eliminate hermis is how you make female seeds, and you revese them using CS or a similar solution, not stressing.

thanks for saying it Mr Jay. this is how bad info gets passed around thanks for correcting it. And BTW you will get some females, but that female might just kick out some nanners and pollinate your whole garden. Remember seeds from a hermaphrodite either produce, female, male or more hermaphrodites.

Stress and the way you store seeds, from my own experiences, creates more males in seeds ratio. Keeping seeds cool, out of light, plants when it's not too cold or dark, providing at least 16 hrs. artificial light....my ratios improve to about 70% female.

Eeeh... say whuuut aridbud?!

The genetical code for beeing a male or female plant is made in the seed, eh(?)
So nothing about how you store them should change this.. Or is my boat just about to get rocked?!

My experience leads me to believe their genetic makeup is predetermined and we like to imagine we have control over it. I have grown the same plants from the same stock in the exact same conditions and had every ratio imaginable. The only variation in the whole schebang was plant gender. Everything from all female to all male.

Breeding with hermies doesn't just give females or hermies, you can also get males. Trust the jackass, he learned the hard way.

Not my theory, but here we go.

A hermi plant is that way genetically. It will produce both male and female parts and the seeds from that pollen will be male, female, or hermi with many females herming.

A REVERSED plant is a fully female (xx) plant that is reversed chemically and forced to produce male flowers that produce only female gamates (well, mostly. Science isn't perfect) The pollen from that reversed female is then used on a different female to produce the xx female seeds, not used on itself like a hermed plant.

Basically, hermies are a natural genetic occurrence and female plants are an engeneered one devoid of any male (y) genetics.

This is often bungled as a lot of breeders out there care more about producing and pushing stock than taking their time and breeding/testing carefully. Hence why some people who order female seeds get hermies, the mothers didn't get stress tested for hermi genes.

This beer still taste rant-y. heh.

Of course I am no breeder, but I've got a little background in biology and the way it was explained to me made sense. I accidentally insulted the guy and he shared knowledge instead of being a jerk back. Some people on the forums are stand up fellers.
