Your power usage is displayed on the internet as public info anyone can get it.I can get it.That whole 1000 watt pr bedroom deal is nonsense maybe a 400 per bedroom especially if you are runnin any other equiptment whatsoever.Propaganda my ass.I use to have that same theyll never catch me attitude ,then they did ,guess based on what?Power consumption.Oh that and I have a dog.Dogs=drugs nowadays dont ya know.Basically since 9/11 cops can do WHATEVER they want and I mean whatever. So by all means people be safe.Feds know very soon they are gonna have to shit or get off the pot and legalize so they are making as much money as they can in the mean time.

after reading your post, I can clearly see why you were busted.

theyll never catch me attitude

Dogs=drugs nowadays dont ya know

^ sorry i did not know this, point this law out in the books and I will know it then. ha

^ dude, using too much power is not illegal. like i said earilier, what if you were growing 3k watts of high quality tomatoes? Is that illegal?

if you WERE busted, you had to of fucked up somewhere else and were too " :bashhead: " to realize it

im sorry but judges dont issue warrants without strong evidence.

- a power usage statement from a electric co.
&
- a dog in the house

are not grounds for a judge issuing a warrant. atleast not in the USA.

*sigh of relief*

Sorry Lil wayne but thats how it went down,Yes ill admit I was being carless and foolish runnin wayyy too much for my teeny house but that wwas it Id post up the paperwork but that would be a dead givaway as to who i am.Cops already know my online name I am just too damn proud to change it.It was more the signs saying beware of dog and keepout all over my property than it was the dog itself. Its not a law but I clearly remember reading that cops are now trained to relate dogs[especially dangerous ones ia pits, rotties ,german sheps]with drugs. And you can keep on thinking that high usage alone is not enough for a warrant but anyone can tell you cops will do as they wish.Theyll get a warrant on nothing bust you and hell even if it was bogus and it dont stand up in court they still got yer stuff and shut you down albeit temporarily.I use to think JUST like you this whole thing has opened my eyes. Not trying to make anyone paranoid just tryin to make people realize that they are on a rampage and we need to play it safe thats all.If that makes me stoopid so be it.

True gromer, they all absolutely access this information all the time whether it is technically "legal" or not.....now if you are an inventive lawyer you will obtain access to the power provider's records and pinpoint exactly when they obtained your power consumption records and then proceed to convince your jury that this is an invasion of privacy and the warrant is thus invalid.....

No one ever really notices how peoples' constitutional rights are routinely broken....

And the police won't pay any attention unless and until they lose lots of cases because they violated constitutional rights. They have their shiny new toys and they intend to use them. Screw the constitution and the bill of rights. Civilians are all guilty... (seems to be the prevailing law enforcement attitude these days)

Right now, the favorite tactic is to pile-on all kinds of made-up charges in an attempt to force the accused to choose between life in prison, or pleading guilty to a lesser charge.

Always insist on a trial by jury, and you'll at least gum-up the works for them. Particularly if they pile-on a bunch of fakery.

On "Ask This Old House", this week, they have a meter that was measuring the electricity drain of certain items. The old fridge was producing a constant 123 watt draw. What struck me was that the TV< CABLE BOX< AND DVD Player while all off produces a constant 120 watt draw just to run the clocks and monitor for the remote control.

It was suggested that you should hook up you "grouped" electronics, like tv entertainment system or computer, monitor and printer set up on a power strip where you can turn them all off with one switch. I guess it beats the hassle of having to plug in and unplug 3 or 4 things every time you want to watch TV or surf the net.

Just those two areas TV and Computer are drawing 200+ watt 24/7, and if you have TV and cable in two rooms, you're looking at a constant 400 watt draw.

Yea its called Phantom power usage... and the elec. industry makes 100's of miillions per year because of it. Use a power strip and kill all power to TV, dvd etc when not in use. SAVES a lot.

San Diego Electric has plans, starting in 2008, to put "smart meters" on all homes, that can read your electrical usage at any time. In the event of low electrical supply, they can even turn off some of your a/c or appliances.

Great, Scary info pops.

This is a huge concern in my eyes....

more and more freedom is being lost each day...

people are too caught up in their video games, movies, and tabloids to realize this i think ...

Wait...What?

so get to work on an 'inline filter' that lies to the meter. computers are EASY to lie to. first one to bring it to market will make a good buck.

Right on the head Excel, in addition there are smart meters and computers ALREADY at substations that can monitor how much electricity goes out vs what is being used, and where its being used, where its being lost, etc etc.

Outdoors is def where its at ;)

haha finaly someone says it!
thats how they find the culprits. every step of the way they know what there doing. they already know how much the block is feed, vs. use so its only a matter of a short time for the big thiefs to get poped... its only the last link to our houses thats not digital so a few kw might not get attention SO FAST but when people get greedy....
GREED IS BAD!
http://www.dailybulletin.com/news/ci_5824256

im sure they even know when my block uses all its power... i just wish i could get one of thoes TOU (time of use) meters... get me a discount... .229 /kwh for 200%+ vs .09 for regular use, for all the money in power i save, ill move once a year, or hell every 6 mo..

Energy usage really never concerns me, as i'm very close with someone at the elec. co. They regularly attend conferences on grow houses, meth labs etc etc. The big flags that they look for, are the ones we already know about.

1. Stealing power in any shape or form, fooling the meter etc.
2. Crappy wiring that is causing problems at the street level or further up the line.
3. NOT PAYING YOUR BILL - this one is so simple, but so many people ignore it....

Now, there are RARE occassions where an extreme use of power will garner more attention, we're talking residential usage here.. and the first step is to contact the home owner asking if they've recently made changes to their home's appliances etc.

If for some reason they aren't satisfied with your explanation, they CAN request an electrical audit, which means they send someone to your home to check appliances, make sure something isn't drawing a lot of power for no reason. THIS IS RARE RARE RARE. If you really want to be safe, purchase a few things used...

Central air/heat pump, ceramic kiln, arc welding tools, or quite a few electric heaters or air conditioners. 99.9% of the time, a phone call, a quick talk w/ a service rep will put them at ease, and as long as you follow the 3 rules above, you'll never hear from them again.
