How can our political process be any more corrupt?
It's all about super rich people using the media to brainwash people.
Abraham Lincoln couldn't get elected today.
In fact, he couldn't even run.

i think it is great that soros has helped with 215 and 19 - but he does have other motives
soros is a large shareholder in Monsanto - FYI
they are probably positioning themselves for a legalized hemp industry and or medical cannabis play when the laws permit
so yes you are correct in that he has motives but at least they are pushing drug reform policy in the right direction
but it is crazy to think that he can influence public policy for profit
lets be serious - that is exactly what a lot of big business does

What I found interesting about Soros was that he does not use MJ now, but has tried it in the past.

His primary motivation for legalizing MJ is because of the irreversible harm a drug conviction can be for your permanent record.

Wrong!

3 pages and nobody has yet made the connection that is VITAL to understanding who is behind prop 19.

The devil is in the details, as the saying goes.

WELL, George Soros' #1 investment with his billions is MONSANTO. As in terminator genes, GMO crops, that Monsanto.

So no, Soros does not give a shit about you or any of us.

I check out several growing sites and I am the only one who seems to have read about Soros's connection to Monsanto. I should not even have to say any more, the intelligent ones among us will know instantly that prop 19 is a trojan horse.

Although this is a mj forum, I cannot let pass the fact that soros is NOT the benevolent person portrayed herein. he is a meddling socialist (except for himself) that is using his money to corrupt the American election system. Advocating for more taxes from you and me while accepting obama money for drilling offshore in brazil (in one of his holdings).

In other words, to make it simple for those of ou who ONLY live in a mj bubble haze, he is a piece of shit who is trying his best to corrupt our political process. Do some homework, read about him.

As far as his pro mj fundings, I could give a shit that one out of 10 things he does with his tax free money is positive. He is a thug cocksucker.

do you feel the same way about the Koch Bros?
The rich right wing brothers spending their money on politicians who will roll back government regulation and help them pollute their way to higher profits?
is that okay though?

Soros Fund Management's Portfolio: Adds Citigroup & Monsanto, Dumps Potash (13F Filing)

(This post is part of our series on tracking hedge fund portfolios. If you're unfamiliar with tracking investments they disclose via SEC filings, check out our series preface on hedge fund 13F filings.)

Next up is hedge fund Soros Fund Management. While many will automatically attribute this fund to George Soros, much of the credit also goes to his son Robert Soros who runs the flagship Quantum Endowment Fund. But for those of you wanting an inside look at George Soros' portfolio, look no further. We follow Soros' portfolio movements due to his macro sense and solid track record. We like to see what sectors he is flocking to and these filings are the perfect example of possible themes his firm might be seeing. Soros Fund Management is a true global macro player as they dabble in pretty much any asset class they desire, so just keep that in mind as the below only details their equity and options holdings.

In the past Soros has said one of his main concerns is the deleveraging of the US consumer over a longer period of time which will hurt consumer spending and thus growth going forward. More of Soros' thoughts on the financial markets are detailed in his latest book, The New Paradigm for Financial Markets: The Credit Crisis of 2008 and What It Means.

For 2009, Soros' Quantum Endowment Fund was up 28% as noted in our hedge fund performance numbers list. In the past we've also detailed some of their recent portfolio maneuvers. The positions listed below were their long equity, note, and options holdings as of December 31st, 2009 as filed with the SEC. All holdings are common stock unless otherwise denoted.

Brand New Positions
Citigroup (C)
DirecTV (DTV)

If you would take the time to educate yourself, instead of listening to msnbc or reading media matters, you would instantly know the difference.

There is a large difference in donating money to a cause (koch) and donating to a vast web of hidden businesses and foundations that have only single purposes. ie. electing secretary of states so that close elections can be stolen (think al franken here) and phony green causes that will milk the US taxpayers of trillions (think tide foundation here).

Shut up and sit down and learn something. Or smoke a joint legally while and watch as some corrupt person (who pays little to nothing in US taxes due to an intricate web of offshore holdings) ruins this country for generations.

Or do you believe we can keep paying retiring firemen (at age 45) 100% of their salary for life? For a simple job that takes about 32 hours a week.

Grow up and read something.

You think fire fighting is "easy money"?
I'd like to see a wuss like you do a job like that.
That's work for real men and women.
you are not up to it.

So after a person risk's his life for a career protecting society you want to re-neg on the pension deal agreement we have made with them?

You have no class, soul or honor.

Its not our only chance. We will have something on the ballot in 2012 and a few years to make it better. With 19 if you have children under 18 living at home you can't have your medicine. You would have to leave home to medicate and be legal if your child is there.. and keep your meds elsewhere or you are committing a felony. And you sho aint gonna be able to grow it at home if you have children under 18. You can have booze and prescription meds and tobacco that can all kill but you can't have God's natural medicine??? I don't have kids at home anymore but come on.. that's just the beginning.. very restrictive and industry motivated. Read 19 over and over and all the little restrictions become bigger. It "frees" you to have a legal ounce?? That's not freedom.

you can only transport 1 ounce. This is simply to be able to catch drug trafficers trying to move product out of the state. Gotta write these laws in some sort of matter to get multiple different groups to vote on it. If it were written in ultra perfect manner that most pot heads imagine full on legalization to be. It will never pass.

Come on California, to 2mrrow is your day to prove that sanity and intelligence can change the world against all odds. Pass Prop 19!!!!

Many billionaires have created and funded philanthropic ventures without expecting anything back except the good they want to do for humanity.

The Bill gates Foundation funds many non-profits with a full 50% of his income. Others like the Waltons of Walmart donate less than 1%. I'm pretty sure all Soros expects in return is prop 19 to pass.

Vote yes on prop 19.

Gee, it's a good thing we have a loud mouthed troll to uncover the conspiracies for us, otherwise we might be tempted to accept donations from some unsavory characters.
Unfortunately, I'm much more concerned about a much bigger conspiracy: world governments conspiring to put us in prison & destroy our lives for using a harmless...no...make that benevolent plant.
Cannabis arrests in the United States:

(1980-2009 - Total, marijuana and drug arrests by year) Although the intent of a 'War on Drugs' may have been to target drug smugglers and 'King Pins,' over half (51.6%) of the 1,663,582 total 2009 arrests for drug abuse violations were for marijuana -- a calculated total of 858,408. Of those, an estimated 758,593 people (45.6%) were arrested for marijuana possession alone. By contrast in 2000, a total of 734,497 Americans were arrested for marijuana offenses, of which 646,042 were for possession alone.
http://drugwarfacts.org/cms/?q=node/53

858,408 arrests for cannabis in the U.S. alone in 2009. Those arrests stay on your record forever.
They negatively impact your life forever. Your earning power is diminished permanently.
For young Americans arrests for marijuana offenses can have very dire consequences. In the United States drug convictions bar students from receiving any Federal Student Loans. This is a another policy that preferentially impacts on working class and minority communities.
The number of arrests has doubled since 1980.
The amount of money spent on the war on drugs annually:
Over $42 billion.
http://www.drugsense.org/cms/wodclock

Over $1,000,000,000 spent annually locking up cannabis offenders.
Over $8,000,000,000 spent arresting cannabis offenders.
http://www.talkleft.com/story/2006/10/18/125830/39

The United States has less than 5 percent of the world’s population. But it has almost a quarter of the world’s prisoners. Indeed, the United States leads the world in producing prisoners, a reflection of a relatively recent and now entirely distinctive American approach to crime and punishment.
The United States ranks number one in incarceration rates as well, which is the number of people imprisoned per 100,000 people in a given country. The U.S. has 751 people incarcerated per 100,000 while Russia, the industrialized nation closest in rank , has only 627 per 100k. In other countries it is far lower, with England at 151, Germany at 88, and Japan at only 63!
The website of the Marijuana Policy Project notes that: “Federal government figures indicate there are more than 41,000 Americans in state or federal prison on marijuana charges right now, not including those in county jails. That’s more than the number imprisoned on all charges combined in eight individual European Union countries.
According to the US Department of Justice, 30-40 percent of all current prison admissions involve crimes that have no direct or obvious victim other than the perpetrator,” the report shows. “The drug category constitutes the largest offense category, with 31 percent of all prison admissions resulting from such crimes.” Nearly a third of all prison admissions are from non violent drug offenses!
http://hashexpress.wordpress.com/the-hash-express-news-2010/marijuana-prison-statistics/

The Drug Policy Alliance and the California State Conference of the NAACP have released a report that documents widespread race-based disparities in the enforcement of low-level marijuana possession laws in California. In the last 20 years, California made 850,000 arrests for possession of small amounts of marijuana, and half a million arrests in the last 10 years. The people arrested were disproportionately African Americans and Latinos, overwhelmingly young people, especially young men. Yet, U.S. government surveys consistently find that young whites use marijuana at higher rates than young blacks. From 2006 through 2008, police in 25 of California's major cities have arrested blacks at four, five, six, seven and even twelve times the rate of whites.
http://realneo.us/Understanding-The-Cannabis-Divide

So, yeah, I don't like conspiracies either.
But George Soros' motivations don't amount to a hill of beans in comparison to the vast and overwhelming government conspiracy against us, the tax payers who are actually paying our hard earned dollars to lock up our own selves and our brothers. If George is donating to my cause, I'm all for it. NORML supports prop 19, and so do I.
I'm against locking people up, and the ends justify the means in this case.
So screw your conspiracy.
A "no" vote is a vote to put more people in prison, not just in Cali, but the rest of the nation/world, because a "yes" vote would spread east and around the globe and eventually those prison walls would come down. Which part of that don't you guys understand?

You think fire fighting is "easy money"?
.

Yep, I do. In any event, it is not worth what we pay them during their tenure and surely not what they receive during their early retirement (which they all seem to take along with a claimed back injury about 1 month before retirement to make their retirement pay tax free).

And BTW, as a former professional football player, I don't see fighting a fire once or twice a month with the balance of their time filled with sleeping, eating and volleyball any big deal.

Some like yourself may think it is, but you probably haven't ever been in any decent physical condition in your life
