Mr. Cool DIY Mini Split systems

I came across these in my search for mini splits. I was going to go the Breeze or IdealAir route but they both seem to be discontinued. The price on these are amazing and the reviews seem to be all very good.

I got 2 tons for $1419 shipped. It heats and cools and has a drying mode as well. Comes with 26 feet of lineset. 5 degree ambient temperature operation. If power goes out, the AC will come back on (this was HUGE for me, the window rattler i was using would NOT come back on after a power outage and nobody lives at the grow). Another nice feature is that it has wifi capabilities and an app to go with it. You can monitor the temp and adjust everything from your smartphone.

A friend and I (both of our HVAC experience goes about as far as installing window ACs and fans/duct work ) installed this in about 3 hours. No weird tools needed. 3 inch hole saw was the only thing we didn't have so we just used a reciprocating saw for the 3 inch hole needed to feed the lineset through.

I turned it on this morning and the temp quickly dropped 4 degrees after switching the window banger off. Both the indoor and outdoor units are VERY quiet. I'm going back to check on it later today, but so far, I am very pleased with unit all around.

The have smaller and larger models too.

I'm also curious to know if anyone else has experience with these units.

I have a friend with the Mr Cool and Ideal air both. The ideal air is not discontinued to my knowledge, my local gro stores still carry them.

personally I went with name brand pro unit that needed the linesets flared and evacuated (very simple and took maybe an hour with the help of an hvac friend).

My buddy with the Mr cool has had his for about 2 years now and it's really not doing very well anymore.. The lineset was much longer than they needed so they just left the 10' they weren't using coiled up behind the outside unit.
I don't know how yours looks, but you will want to fix it if your lineset goes up and down. This will trap oil and stuff in the low sections and you will fuck up the unit and it won't work, just like my friends unit.

Other than that I think they are okay for the price and the DIY, but I'd go for something like mitubishi or LG and do everything but connecting the linesets

Oil and stuff in the lines, huh? I guess I'll be on the lookout. It's strange because 2 months ago your buddy loved his. After 2 years of great operation, did it just suddenly go to shit in 2 months?

Thanks

Spend the money and get a decent split , There is so many problems with the do it your self kits . the biggest one is the install and doing a good vac a stupidly small amount of air is enough to start damaging the compressor hence the reason they last bugger all . They also use a ridiculous amount of power compared to a branded unit . The lines that are supplied from what ive seen here in nz , are at the maximum length the od unit can pump. They might be better in your country tho , my split is a fujitsu 8kw cooling , 6.9 heating cost me $1300 i installed it tho

I just got my 24k unit up and running about a week ago. I love it!!! quiet as hell, keeps 4k of open bulbs right at 75, no problem. Very easy to install, and in my opinion a very good value. Just hit 93 here the other day. Got her in right in the nick of time.....

Got my Mr. Cool 24k installed yesterday also. It works great, super happy with it so far. It took me most of the day between preparing the outdoor pad, running electricity, and drilling multiple holes through walls. I had to route it through a few different rooms to get to the outside.
I love the simplicity of installation, pretty easy but you will need someone to help you feed the hose through the wall.

My installation sounds similar, with the linset going through a couple different walls. Most definitely would not have been able to do it alone.
