I've recently been spending alot of time thinking about what I'm doing with my life. I mean, I've not been wasting it up to this but, I feel like I'm selling myself short. I've been looking into different places I would enjoy living and have thought a little about moving to spain, or s. america.....after some thought I have decided if I were to move out of the country spain would be much more suiting to my style of living.

anyone with any first hand knowledge or experiance about living in spain would be great.

what is the price of living like over there? I'm sure I would be in for a culture shock. but I really wanna get my eyes opened...so it could only be a good thing.

cost of living ??? wel its gonna suck when you convert you $$ for pecetas( oh yea now its Euros =D). The peseta (banking code: ESP, standard abbreviation: Pta., Pts., or Ptas., symbol: ₧ (rare)) was the former currency of Spain. i got a buncha pesetas!!

I grew up in salamanca and spent much time in barcelona as an infant, i then moved to the canary islands wich is like Miami for spain. Growing up there was blissfull, Technology has improved, and the economy is doing decent. You would have fun in salamanca or barcelona, any University town with hot girls....as they say in spain Tapas, cervesa, marcha(en esa orden, in that order).

Spain is an amazing place, the canary islands are equally impressive(not to mention the close proximity to morrocco(HASH?=YEAAAA!). You will need t learn spanish even though everyone is taught propper english in school(most everone there is highly educated). I hope you do go to spain and experice it in its fullest its a rich and now diverse country with some of the most beutiful and oldest architecture in the world( not to mention the museum, art, and food :D)

Hope this helps you, NYC fan 0 4 2 =D

Welll fisrt off you gotta figure out a way to get your $$ over without getting killed on the conversion. Dollar sucks compared to the euro. Spain does have the 3rd lowest cost of living for EU countries which is good. You need to learn spanish though.

If you re a survivor, and spread good energy. Spanish will be something you SHOULD try to get a jump on, and then just go.... You can count on the Spanish being at least as nice as your present neighbors.....

They will enjoy your stumbling Spanish, and will help and gently correct you. The Spanish have a way of letting you know that you are appreciated for using their tongue, but also to let you know how to use it. They are gracious people. The Cities are more welcoming then the country towns.

In business dealings you will need to make sure everything is in order, that is where the language barrier becomes more than a simple fun challenge. ALso, after waking up in the morning, (especially if you did not sleep enough, which happens in Spain, lol) it is sometimes difficult to switch gears and go straight to Spanish..

The Siesta in the afternoon IS an institution, and requires repecting, or else your neighbors will be mad, so you may as well learn how to sleep a bit and stay up late, so you can eat dinner with everyone else, at 10pm... haha

I think you have a great idea, go for it. I may see you there. The Spanish have a FIERCE dedication to freedom and personal expression which is gone from the good 'ol US of F'in A.

my sister is travelling all over Europe at the moment ... "Spent the last 2 nites in Barcelona - Spain. I love spain!" lol

But like others have said, BEFORE YOU MOVE, VISIT FIRST!!!
Because if you move and it doesn't turn out to be all you'd hoped for then you've made one hell of an expensive, laborious and time consuming mistake that will take just as much if not more expense, labor and time to undo!

Santiago is the Christian worlds' second holiest City, and you can feel it. Let's just say it does not have the rage-en-est night scene..... The City of Vigo is not too far, and very very interesting.

The weather in Galicia can be a bit depressing, but it is no worse than dealing with Norcal fog..! haha .... It is not the most festive part of Spain, but there is occasional surf -- Go to Espana...!

If not for all the Cigarette smokers, I would have already been living there. That is a real issue, that the Spanish are now beginning to tackle.

Right folks, of course it is the prudent thing to do, but this person does not want to visit there first..! lol

Can't all you see that..? haha

The experience will be amazing. Cannabis friendly, beautiful people, elegant old culture, tolerant attitudes, Not the USA......! Do what the heart says to do, even if it means JUST GO..!

You Wildman.

I would also say visit first if you can. If your set on just up and moving there. Rent a house in the country for about a month and check out other cities and towns. I've been doing allot of researching myself. Moving and setting up a business there. From everything i've found. Online and books bought from amazon. It's not hard at all, but like others have posted here already. Please, make sure you do have all your paper work in order. If you don't speak spanish already. Rosettastone is the best software out there and that's what i'm using now. I was lucky enough to lay over in spain for a few days while serving in the Army. Boy, did i love my time there. Housing is up right now. Your best bet and this is what i'm doing. Look for housing just outside a city or town. There are allot better deals to be found. I've found a few places with some nice land. I've found a few places only a few minutes from the beach and the price just right. Well, good luck with your choice in life. Have any question, pm me anytime. I'll be relocating to southern spain on the atlantic side. Just outside of Cadiz. Take care and maybe i'll see you there.
Later,
BG

Spain is deffinately a nice place to live, but go visit it first for a bit of time like a month or so. And also you have to get yourself the correct paperwork so you can live there and without a EU passport I think you have to find yourself a job.
Hope it all works out for you.

If your going to live in spain and are don't have a EU passport. You will need to head over to the Spain embassy website. They have all the forms over there. Just down load them and mail them out, but you will have to have a copy in Spainish also and they will not let you turn the paper work in while visiting spain. You are best to mail it in back home and then the waiting game begins. Best bet to get the paper work approved. Is to start a business. That's what i'm doing. I've got a lawyer that is doing all the paper work also. This makes it allot easier and I know for sure. The paper work isn't going to get kicked back from something filled out wrong. Get a lawyer if you are really planning on moving. Worth every dollar you will spend. Also, get a lawyer. If your planning on buying real estate over there, because you can get burned very bad over there. Well, good luck and take care.
