I'd suggest to be proactive on the gophers regardless if you put down gopher wire. There's a lot more underground than you think. I manage a 7 acre vineyard and never stop trapping or gassing them. We've got 60+in one month before.
Here's the easiest product to kill em. http://cinchtraps.com
now that i think about it, i havent seen a deer on my property all seasonYea, had a buddy with around 100 plants. Deer ate a majority of the plants in one night.
I used a pack of gassers on some active mounds in my fenced area. I haven't seen any new ones in there. Seems like it worked. Just fyi.
You can check and see which mounds are active by unplugging the hole and seeing if it's filled in in a day or two.
link? btw i'm not exactly a seasoned gopher hunter. whats the difference between a hole and a mound?
If it's a hole with no dirt on the surface it is already abandoned by the gopher, is now a good home for spiders and snakes.
If it is a pile of fresh dirt, the entrance hole to the tunnel is hidden under the dirt pile (mound) and could still be active. They close the door so to speak by plugging the hole entrance, guess it keeps out water and snakes.
