Sickle. Whoops. Sforza, the workers were communists, too. The authoritarian vanguard is what fucked everything. Or at least a major part of it.

Shcrews, I tried searching your 2015 thread but there were no details- what's your pruning philosophy? I know you don't top but it seems like you clean the inside. Do you just snip branches on the inside that don't get much light?

I cannot say the will not bite him. For most part they are calm not aggressive. We just handle em gentle and yet to get bit. They are non poisen so if he does get bit proboly scare more than harm. If you do get a few they will get fair sized I have a pair of males over 6 foot. The trick is if see a new tunnel to open it up so they can get in. Love my army of killers on hand snakes and bacteria going strait for the kill no prisoners.

deer come on the hill but they've never messed with my plants. theres lots of vegetation around for them to eat. I'll be surprised if they are attracted to the mounds. I'm more worried about gophers. they are tearing up the hillside.

I would fence that in. you could do it for cheap. I've had deer eat entire 5 foot plants before. and once they get a taste they will keep coming back

I'd suggest to be proactive on the gophers regardless if you put down gopher wire. There's a lot more underground than you think. I manage a 7 acre vineyard and never stop trapping or gassing them. We've got 60+in one month before.

yah im all for it. can i use those traps without digging in my mounds? all the gopher traps i seen make you put them in the ground. and you mentioned gas?

snake idea seems simple

Yea, had a buddy with around 100 plants. Deer ate a majority of the plants in one night.
now that i think about it, i havent seen a deer on my property all season

I used a pack of gassers on some active mounds in my fenced area. I haven't seen any new ones in there. Seems like it worked. Just fyi.

You can check and see which mounds are active by unplugging the hole and seeing if it's filled in in a day or two.

If it's a hole with no dirt on the surface it is already abandoned by the gopher, is now a good home for spiders and snakes.
If it is a pile of fresh dirt, the entrance hole to the tunnel is hidden under the dirt pile (mound) and could still be active. They close the door so to speak by plugging the hole entrance, guess it keeps out water and snakes.

makes sense. there's probably hella gophers living in my mounds, i see little dirt piles all the time.

Lol I'm not either. Just do a little googling. Like stone house said, the hole is under the mound. It's all the loose dirt they generate from digging. Just wipe all the dirt to the side and start poking the ground to find the hole. The basic idea is that you light a gas stick, stuff it in the hole, and cover it with dirt.

The problem though is that they have different exits and routes. When I did it, I just identified all the active mounds within the fence and hit those one after the other, but it's totally possible it could have escaped and is just avoiding the area. If I was more determined I would have 2-3 friends hit every active mound at one time with a shitload of gassers.

The best option seems like finding the main runway (some holes will lead to fork which is supposed to be the main runway, and you can find it by probing the the ground a foot deep a foot away from the holes) and setting two traps at the fork so no escape.

...now I'm fuckin wondering if my stunted plants are getting munched on...........
