Gotcha. It's off the main drag at the top of the new town, between the bank and the roundabout... looks like they are tarting it all up round there. Fair enough!

Sorry, I meant "are the photos of where you were staying an apartment or a hotel"?... question answered! Looks very nice. I usually stay at the wonderful Pension Znika (heavily loyal to it's lovely owner)...

... next time I go to the Rif I am quite keen to check out if there are now any nice options for staying in/near Bab Taza or Anasar... closer to the action...

Ah, here you are.. technical difficulties overcome... sorry, it's still not a great photo... here's my chocolately block from Taghazoute (see post earlier in thread)

For scale, that's about 5cm sq/1.5" sq (and slightly thinner, obviously)

Thanks for the insight Resin, Limey and SS,you guys are awesome for posting rep to all! I'm planning a trip and this info is priceless!

I have a question. Do those apartments have internet access and electricity? Is it fairly easy to find an apartment that is furnished that has electricity and internet access? Can monthly rates be negotiated?

As a side not, I wouldn't mind learning a little Arabic while I'm, there as well to help with my mountain expeditions. Any schools u guys know of by chance?

Helps loads, thx m8, u da man! Just having flashbacks of small town Mexico / China now and thought about how the bathroom sitch might be where u were... Is Chef and the villages in the middle of nowhere one of those places that you want to pack your own toilet paper? Outhouse style? full on plumbing allowing toilet paper to be flushed?

Trying to set expectations...

hi intlplayr the apartment in chef had western toilets but the villages just had a hole in the ground and a bucket of water like most houses in morocco.remember NEVER eat with ur left hand or shake peoples hand with the left.u need anymore info let me know all the best.RESIN SEEKER

Hi Player

Honestly, for staying in Chefchaoen I would stay in a guest house (there are many) rather than an apartment as it would most likely be much more expensive to stay in an apartment. No problems smoking hash in most of the cheaper hotels in Chaoen. My personal preference is for Pension Znika. Hotels or apartments in Chefchaoen (and most places where there is a tourist industry in Morocco (but not private houses out in the sticks, where - as resin seeker says - you will likely have a bucket/tub for washing in and a hole for the toilet) will have a hot water geyser for the kitchen/shower (you may have to ask for a gas bottle), often western style toilets etc all clean. But yes, buy you own paper and DONT FLUSH IT - put it in the bin: the plumbing gets blocked if you flush paper.

... I do like to rent apartments if I am staying on the beach though (up North In Oued Laou, for example, or Taghazoute down South). There's much less choice guest house-wise in these places and more choice of apartments.

Reckon you'll find Morocco cleaner than Mexico, though not necessarily tidier (plastic bags and bottles everywhere, sadly).
