Tangier best, and closest. Ryanair does real cheap deals. As for going from Tangier to Chefchaouen, best option is a taxi. There are buses too.
As for language... Everyone gets on. Street pushers speak most human languages, or at least they will know a few words. No worries about that.
I reccomend to everyone to learn a few formalities, which might take you a long way. Like the numbers, greetings and those few basics that can be memorized while travelling there. People appreciates the effort.
Very entertaining post Rubio, after reading it i want to go back immediatly. In fact i might spend the winter in morocco. Not in Chauen though, too cold, perhaps Larache or even Sidi Ifni in the southwest.

Do you know where to get the grand taxi or buses to Chefchauen from Tangiers. Do buses go from the airport? Or do I go into Tangier? cheers

Hola!

You dont have to book anything there. Use Chefchauen as headquatters. Take your bike (or go on foot) and go inside teh Talassemtane National Park. Inside the park theres a couple of lodges, one in Azilane (runned by an old frend) and a couple of them more in others small villages. I would need to check my book and maps for name references (PM if you needed).

On teh other hand, the regular bus Tangier - Chaouen is taken in a Bus station inside the city. A trip by taxi from Tangiers airport to chaouen will cost you between 30 and 60 euros...depending how you bargain (you can change alcohol bottles or old electronic devices such a mobile phone or so with the taxi driver to low your fare heheeh).

My tip: there is a lot of ppl going to Xaouen from Tangiers Airport. Ask the ppl in the taxi stop in order to join some more ppl going there for get a better price each one). In morocco, 5 ppl + driver are allowed hahaha crazy travels there i had...my gosh.

HOpe you have a nice trip there...

ElRubio wanted to ask how it was travelling through the Rif ; were you ever stopped by Police searched etc. I was thinking if you are travelling there they may think you are a smuggler etc. Also where is best place to score in Chefchauoen etc I mean should you avoid the street sellers any safer tips?

sorry for my late reply dude, i almost forget this thread

Its absolutely safe. Just dont walk with the joint in your mouth, and everything will go well. Chauen is the most easy place to score hash. You´ll be offered in almost every corner. Most of the ppl here have farms (or family wwith them) in the mountains. Good quality, but better in the farms, where you can ask and pay for re-sieved hash.

i have never been frisked by tghe police in Morocco, excepting in ports and airports.

Dont get scared. Its a safe and quiet place. The worst thing: you could be scamed with a hash...nothing more.

Hope you all enjoy The Rif!

Great thread, really enjoyed reading it!

I will be in Morocco in a week and really looking forward to visit some farms in the Rif mountains. Is that possible without any contacts and without promising to buy a kilo?

I plan to stay in Chaouen at first and see who I meet there or can I just directly go to a farm and ask the farmer if I can visit his farm?
