Hey Fellas.....

Glad to see so many folks trying out the different Blues.....Dabney Blue is not Ol Blue....related? possibly but not the same.....could the OR Blues be the Mystery Afghani in Dj's Blueberry line...possibly but no one knows for sure until we get Cannabis DNA mapping available ......

But I can say Ive tried about 50 different Blueberrys over the years not including the 15 or 20 hybridsa Ive made with blue as well....and my favorite is still the Old Blue....it delievers consistent results without all the headaches and herms some of the others have....

Mr Danks Dj Bluberry is probbably the best seed grown Blueberry Ive seen, but it still lacks in High and flavor to me.....my second choice would be Stella Blue from Anyday in amsterdam but it would be waay behind Djs blue...

But we must remember persoanl body chemistry and olfactory abilities play a huge role in how we percieve a strain as well....

Personaly I prefer the Danker more natural occuring flavors like spice and skunk, kush, and sourness and creamyness......

from my own expierence being friends with MrDank he enjoys the more artifical candied flaovr herbs like shishkaberry, Djs Blue and Mikido and Cherry bomb....

At some point you start to realize how different folks have totaly different opinions about choice of herbs.....The Key is to find someone with your similar taste and tolerance and share your wares......

Like I know anything that my Brother, ThaDocta, Zilla, Romulator, Cronique enjoy smokin and growin , I'll enjoy smokin and growin.....

Where Mr Dank is my buddy but I know his tastebuds, body chemistry and Tolerance is WAAAy different than mine...So I try to get a sample of nuggets insted of blindly accepting a strain as I might with Zilla......Of my 25 moms the OG from Mr D is the only cut of his in my garden...

plus we all know MrD has the tolerance of a 12 year old asian girl ........so his opinion of a "good high" is worth less than a 60 year old pron star.....HAHA J/K.....

If yer lookin for a good tastin , happy smoke....any Blueberry strain will do the trick....

Oh and as far as how old them Blues could be...and Ol Blue was purchased by my brother in NorCal/SouthOR in the Winter of 1985-1986...and its been with my crew that long...as far as the Dabney, it only surfaced on the net like 3 or 4 years ago...before that no one on the Net had even heard of the "Dabney"......DjShort didnt start selling his Blueberry seeds till around 1992 as far as I know.......but he supposedly started collecting seeds in the 70's....

Well I've grown 2 blueberry strains and they were slightly fruity, decent smoke, but no where close to tasting like fresh blueberries or even blueberry syrup/jam...next is bluedog (5beans left theDogXblueberry by brothelbros, the 1st 5 3males/2 hermies but motarebel ran and was happy) or cinderallablues by spicebros. We shall see but damn, those are some fine shots!

So for most the top 3 blueberry would be Ol Blue, OR/Dabney blueberry or DJ Shorts Blueberry?

ive only had one BB, Moonshines plant and havent bothered with any other offerins. not only does it have a great BB aroma in my OP, shes rock solid under any conditions. yield, aromas,and taste never waiver(cept when your lights are worn out) even then its a great plant.

i keep a flowerin spot with a small light leak, which reflects around the mylar on the walls. OlBlue is flowered in there all the time, never a nanner or nut with this plant. cant say that about many other so called elites....ie TW, sourDeez, pure kush, G13/hazeXNYCD, and jackieO to name a few i have seen.

OlBlue is what i would consider what some call a Heirloom plant, shes survived many a grow and is well past clone only/elite status imo.

dabney i havent gotten around to tryin, Hieagle(whos opinion i value says its a very nice BB cut) for sure a different plant just from the pics, more sativa leanin plant.

DJ, well hes the creator of his line, prolly the best to look through in seed form. as for what his indica was who knows, but i have been told that he sold and let cuts loose while workin his line. so OlBlue and Dabney could be a cut from his original works.

also i grew some of Joey weeds C99/BB cross, and most all the plants had BB aromas. taste was fruity/berry.

Wow, this is a great thread. Thanks moonshine for some clarification and your opinion. Personal preferecnce is always the bottom line. I also remember reading from you the your ol' blue is not the same as dabney but it slipped my mind, Id love to find out if they are related.

Thats a great point that I never thought of. When I was reading DJ's book I remember him saying that he was selling the original f1's and f2's in the 70's as well as cuts of his best hybrids (blueberry, blueberry kush etc.). It is a reasonable theory to think that these blue clones may be offspring or at least related to DJ's early work. Especially the dates of these blue's, Oregon's blue is supposed to be from 1985, about 10 years or more since DJ began his work. Im not sure about Ol' Blue but Im pretty sure both it and dabney were "discovered" after DJ started his line but I may be wrong.

This is an interesting thread. Even if dj short didnt create the original blueberry, it has to be the best attempt to create new seeds of a cut from scratch. For that alone id say its amazing. Great pics as well you guys. Take it easy.

Ah, yes, I do like the candy flavors, as well as every other flavor too! My palette enjoys every spectrum of fine canabis. I am just not one who has a particular preference with flavor...as long as it's good

maybe so...Im only sayin it was only about 2002-2003 that I ever saw a referance to the Dabney on the net and Ive been postin pics of the Ol Blue all the way back to 99 on OG (when I bought my first digi cam.)..I have poloriod pics of my Blue grows from the early 90's that are a HOOT to look at though....

....There were reports of other "Oregon Blueberry" strains, but I had never heard the term "Dabney Blue" till I released a few cuts of Old Blue into the netherr regions of cyberspace....for a while I thought someone renamed it and passed it around.....but the DB is more sativaish, which is what Dj's blue leans towards nowadays.....Ol Blue is an Afghani Bush, plain and simple........

And around these parts its Simply "The Blue"....not ol Blue or Blueberry etc.....The First three people to be involved with this cut (me , my bro and our Buddy Jason) have always refered to her as Blue...As it was sold to my Bro as "The Oregon Blue".....it was folks on OG that started callin it Ol Blue due to her age...and to set her apart from other "Blueberry" strains....

Thanks for the info nevermind. That has been my theory the whole time. All of the "blueberry" cuts circulating are most likely from the same place; The 1985 Oregon Blueberry Plant. All that has been done is that these cuts were given names by the people responsible for their distribution. This still also leaves the door open for the 85 ORegon Blue cut to possibly be from DJ's work, as he was in the PNW during this period (to my knowledge). I would love for somebody to clear this up for us, Im sure the story of the origin of the blue cuts is very interesting. Maybe Red or DJ have more info on the subject

I love all the assumtions that people come up with with these "original", Blueberry cuts.

DJ has been working on Blueberry since the late 70's and used to sell cuts of them before the seeds...

I love how people try to knock the dude for something that he created.

I base my assumptions on growing and smoking DJ's, DP's and Dabney.

Yes i have read his work but so what? There are a ton of breeder hype stories. Alot easier for him to sound great and say he made somthing after years of work instead of knocking off an old OR cut.

i know this thread is old as shit but i just noticed this and cant believe i didnt before.

saying DJ's work is a "knockoff of an old OR cut" is blasphemous.
if this was true how can we explain flo, f13, blue heaven (also my #1 over dabney any day) or the dozens of other stellar plants that resulted fro,m DJ's work.

Hard work, love and dedication over a long period of time always creates something great.
