This looks like it could get really expensive.

I think the room entry and motion functions could be handled by something like zone-minder. As for the other stuff, I have always though about placing a webcam in front of a set of thermometers and other assorted readouts. As long as there was no pot or grow equipment visible in the shot I don't think it would be a major security risk.

Forget the money. Safety is too important, plus it isn't as expensive as you'd think.. considering the investment of certain setups. I think this is a beautiful discovery.

I actually did exactly what you mentioned.. webcam in front of different readouts for temp., humidity, etc. and had it linked to a secure connection to the point where I was checking my phone every hour.

HOWEVER... I couldn't check power outs, which inevitably happened and my whole situation got compromised pretty badly.. I need an alert as soon as it happens. I also want to be able to set parameters with my temperature so I am alerted if my A/C fails and the temp. reaches a certain degree that I don't like.

All i'm saying is.. this type of thing exists, and for those who are trying to be as careful as I should give this product a serious look.

Ok, if money isn't really an issue then I'll revise my initial reaction: it looks pretty awesome. To be able to receive notifications when certain values go out of their parameters is really neat. Power outage notification would be useful too.

I think I have similar worries about power outages and temperature peaks. If everything I had were on one breaker it would be one thing, unfortunately it's not. It's possible right now for my cooling to shut off completely and the light to still stay on, which would certainly spell disaster.

The direction I am trying to head in though is more of a redundancy approach than an early warning system (not to say you couldn't have both). Almost all of my stuff is running through GFCI units. I intend to get a high-temperature shutoff for my light. The ventilation is somewhat redundant; I have a window fan, which has 2 fans (1 exhaust, 1 intake) that act as boosters for my hood cooling. In the event that the in-line shuts off for whatever reason the window fan could potentially keep things somewhat under control (I should actually test how cool it can keep the light without the help of the in-line). I have an automatic fire extinguisher in case of a fire. I'm running coco at the moment, but if I were running any other kind of hydro system a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) could possibly keep air or water pumps running when the power is out. I imagine aeroponic and foggerponic setups are most vulnerable to this kind of thing.

Some kind, any kind, of remote monitoring would be really nice. Make sure to post up if you get a system like this working. I for one am always interested in this kind of stuff.

Agree 100%. Safety is the single most important part of my grow. Security would be a close second. I'd rather be sitting in county than burnt up in a grow-op fire.
