Mold Resistant Paint

Hi all,

I'm making plans for a new grow cabinet and was considering using mold resistant paint. Is it safe and effective? I grow organically if that makes any difference.

yeah, i like to use a couple coats of elastomeric paint on the insides of all my cabs, it's rubberized so its waterproof while also being highly reflective AND mildew resistant.

...it's available at Lowes and such but you'll need to look for it in the roofing department as it is marketed as a roof patch for trailers and such, ...anyway it's also cheap at less than $20.00 per gallon.

Thanks boz,

I don't know if I'll be able to get that particular product as I'm in Australia but I'll keep that information in mind. Does that type of rubberised paint have a mat (flat) finish?

i'm betting there is an equivalent you'll just have to hunt around, try hardware stores, home improvement stores, lumber yards, ...you can also check RV stores and the like.

...i mean i have to believe they have this technology in Australia too.

Yeah. We should be able to get the elastomeric paint. Sorry. I was reading that as the brand rather than the type of paint. I'll keep my eye out for it. Thanks again for your help, mate.

Not saying its better. Just putting in my $.02 but I saw a gloss oil base paint in a very experienced growers set up and thought it was a foot idea.

All the usual advice says use flat paint as it is actually more reflective and doesn't cause hot spots. I know that seems counter-intuitive but we know that mirrors aren't the most reflective.

Unless someone can convince me why the traditional wisdom is wrong...

...it has been my experience that the conventional wisdom is right, flat white is more reflective than glossy white.

...btw, the elastomeric paint i use is flat white and is 90% reflective. ...one of the brand names to look for over here is Kool Seal White, here's a link to a site where you can check some details.

Thanks for the link. I noted that it helps absorb sound. Very cool. It doesn't list timber as one of the surfaces it can be used on though. Did you use it on timber?

Boss, it's designed to seal up roofs, and reflect sunlight. While they do make other formula's that are more suited to vertical applications, and don't recommend it be applied without something over the roof substrate, your not really gonna have the benefits as you will just be rolling it on real thin anyway. Just go for it its better than regular paint
