I'd kind of prefer they get a much better understanding of marijuana first. There is still a lot of misinformation that people take as fact. You can't go for standardizing before you even fully know what all the working components are of what it is you're trying to standardize.
Also the fact that recreational and medical are coinciding more or less, standardizing for one may not be the best way to go for the other. Recreational is always going to favor high THC content while certain types of medical use finds other cannabinoids to be preferred and THC is seen as the source of unwanted side effects to the point they're actually trying to breed low THC medical strains.
