The ballast is inside the lamp housing as well as ignitor and cap. nothing to it.If you had a clue floro lgt fixtures also have a ballast etc...I do agree if you are not a dyr type of person dont bother ,but its worth the short $

I happen to be a great house hold electrician and have wired many a ballasts/lamps/lights/cookers/dimmer switches/plug sockets etc. Its very easy and i use an HPS lamp where the ballast sits on the floor and is not built in to the lamp as its wired inline with the cable from the lamp to the plug socket. Easy job. My girlfriend calls me cable guy LOL

i understand about 6500k ( veg ) and 2700k ( flower )

i just didnt know if i could mix the two !

so would it be better just to add more 2700k to my 12/12 grow

or would it be better to mix

what is more beneficial ?

i understand that more light is better

im just saying , more 2700k or mix it ya know ?

On my last run I used a Growzilla hood with MH and HPS bulbs. The difference between the plants grown under this light and those grown under just HPS was significant. Same plants, same veg time, approximately the same lumens, same conditions. But the buds were bigger, denser, and definitely had more resin.

Hi m8,if it was me i would always try to mix them, just ran 9 x 600 watt dual hid bulbs with a 400hps and a 200 mh filament in each bulb and results were good, needed longer in veg but plants were noticeably healthier.

So if you want yeild go heavy on the red[ 2 red,1 blue]or if you want it to be more about quality then 2 blue and one red.A mix of 1 red and 1 blue would make a good allround mix,so use both for veg and flower, only thing is will 2 lights its hard to blend unlike when using 3 and you will find the plants under the red would stretch more at the start of flower.Maybe to counteract this you could start off with just blue then when you are over the stretch phase[2-3 wks flower] then add the red to bulk things up.

hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction m8

Not sure if you ever found you solution but here is a nice thread on converting a security light.

IMO the broader the spectrum you cover the better it is for the plants. A HPS has an Intense amount of a small portion of the photosynthetic process and works great from what I've been told. I plan getting a nice 430W combined hps/mh but for the last year CFL has done well enough for me. Just make sure you do a good job of containing you light to maximize your room. I followed the LUX formula.

Total Lumens ÷ Meters² = lux

Light Requirements of “High Energy” Plants
1000 – 5000 lux Min. necessary for life
10000 – 15000 lux Min. necessary for consistent but sparse growth
20000 – 25000 lux Min. necessary for robust growth
25000 – 30000 lux Max. Efficiency for Sub Tropical varieties
25000 – 50000 lux Max. Efficiency for Equatorial varieties
