Minnesota boy, fed up with parents' pot, helps spur bust

Yea bear, that's why I hesitate to say it's wrong to expose children to cannabis. I know that a lot of that sentiment was ingrained in my psyche by my parents and upbringing. My parents didn't smoke anything period.

However, they would have wine with dinner, dad drank beers after work sometimes, cocktails prevalent at any family function, my grandfather was rewarding me with sips for fetching beers by the time I was 6 or 7, etc. Certainly not appropriate in the eyes of some, especially non-drinkers.

However, there is a difference. Drinking alcohol pretty much looks the same to a kid as drinking anything else. Kids already drink water to survive, so they're accustomed to it. Kids should be smoking nothing at all, until eighth grade at least. As far as pills, kids take vitamins and other things. They can't distinguish between tylenol and oxymorphone when mom or dad pops a pill. Also, drinking doesn't involve smoke.

Sure, hitting a joint and hitting a cig will look the same to kids. Ripping a tube or some kind of oil rig, not so much. It doesn't matter. If your kid is sitting there watching you burn, he or she is in a smokey environment. I don't care if that smoke is tobacco, cannabis, or crack, you are a bad parent and a scumbag. All you have to do is step out of the room.

Bear, I did catch the tone of your post and of course agree it's silly that having herb laying around will get your kids taken but drinking and popping pills all day won't.

There's a big difference between hiding something and in your face. Myself, I wish that my lungs hadn't developed in a smoke filled environment.

really? who cares?

my parents both smoked growing up; i turned out fine!

Your parents might have been great parents, smoke or not. I'm fairly sure that you're old enough that you were raised before anybody knew how harmful tobacco or second hand smoke is. So your parents just didn't know, not their fault. Also, cigarettes of yesteryear were not the same. They were real tobacco. Nowadays it's some reprocessed chemical laden trash. And you might have turned out fine, what about the kids who have asthma and breathing issues through no fault of their own?

keep spreading the propaganda machine though;

So I shouldn't spread propaganda, eh?

Which you follow up with this:

some smoke in the air never hurt anybody.

:headscratch: You can't believe this.

Do whatever you want with your kids. If you think raising them around cannabis is fine, then it is. Let them see you smoking, through a window, or while you're both outside.

A little kid sitting their marinating in smoke, no matter what kind, is wrong.

Good. Fucking grand, actually. One less inept, moronic, irresponsible parent contributing to our fucked up society. "Medicinal use" or not, keep that shit away from children. Absolutely unacceptable, and I hope he is held responsible to the full extent of the law.

So sMoking cn front of kids lands you in prison, but smoking cigs while they are in the car or parents getting smashed on bud ice every night is perfectly acceptable. God bless america

2nd hand smoke-passive smoking, is bullshit, look at the real studies(not meta studies which convienently leave out inconvenient data)
The WHO did the largest, most comprehensive, ever study, into the effects of passive smoking. It showed no increased risk from 2nd hand smoke, there was lightly increased risk for non-smokers who were married to smokers-the increased risk of becoming a widow, not any risk of cancers etc. Interestingly- it showed children of smokers, had less chance of developing cancers than non smokers children. Of course, these werent the results they were looking for, so they ordered a meta study, and cherry picked data to come up with more acceptable results.
Basically, 2nd hand smoke/passive smoking, is cover for air pollution caused by road traffic, energy production and industry.

if i can quote simon and garfunkel; "most of all you've got to hide it from the kids..."

what with d.a.r.e and more and more fascistic public school rules popping up, keeping it away from your kids is a good idea. kids don't know any better. they may just mention it to god knows who: teachers, principals, classmates, friends parents, and yes... even police. you might not even know you've got a problem on your hands before its too late.

No. All of those things are entirely irresponsible and unacceptable activities to be done in the presence of children (in my opinion, of course). Please argue the points that I present if you choose to respond to my posts, don't put words into my mouth. That is not only disingenuous, but also counter-productive as hell if you actually want to discuss a point instead of using emotional buzzwords and mudslinging as some of the more out-of-touch burnouts on this forum tend to.

Are you really trying to say that second-hand smoke is not harmful to those who inhale it? Common sense would dictate otherwise, but of course, we all know that there's nothing more uncommon....

But hey, either way, definitely don't provide any sources or evidence of any kind for your statements. Here on ICMag we love to have emotional arguments and toss around logical fallacies like they are legitimate points, and facts really just get in the way of all that fun.

This cannot possibly be a real post. Are you kidding me? Is this what passes for a fucking legitimate argument now?

Please set the bong down and take a step back. You would literally have to be mentally handicapped to even begin to believe that the statement you posted is in any way valid.

And we honestly wonder why nobody with any real power or pull takes us seriously as a group? You have delusional people like yourself to blame for that, my friend.

To compare diabetes to anxiety is just positively fucking asinine. I'm not even going to justify your juvenile, backwards-ass thinking with a legitimate response. Get a clue, dude, christ almighty...

You are right about one thing though -- your choice, your life. That does NOT extend to your children, because if it did, we would allow pederasts and child abusers to ruin their kids with impunity.

As a wise man once said, "I smoke herb for my peace and to release." IMO, if cannabis has such a powerful hold on you that you can't even see how blowing clouds into your childrens' face is just plain wrong, you might want to reconsider how you are using the plant.

The article says that the kid complained to his mother several times about it first, and she did nothing. I don't care if you are burning incense, cigarettes, or pot, it is inconsiderate to subject someone to it that finds is offensive and can't get away from it. I'm not advocating turning the parents in, but really, what the fuck was she thinking?

here is a clue and some truth

i woudl rather have my children raised by someone who uses marijuana than someone under the influence

Alcohol
Xanax
Valium
Percoset
Depakote
Zypreka
Vicodin

ohh the list goes on but as any fucking pot advocate KNOWS

those LEGAL drugs are responsible for the many deaths by use and by being under the influence under the wheel

see everyone who deals with weed illegally

WHICH IS EVERYONE IN LIVING IN THE USA THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH POT

that it's legal status is not relative to it nature

i don't smoke pot for shits and giggles

im not about pot cause i got nothing better in my life

im about the healing herb because its just that

You are right about one thing though -- your choice, your life. That does NOT extend to your children, because if it did, we would allow pederasts and child abusers to ruin their kids with impunity.

read above

pot + kids is only deemed abuse because of its status not because there is any correlation between parents who use and abuse

take your head from your ass

wipe it off and either come correct with some logical retorts or put that rag in your mouth and wash the shit out of there too

At what point did I mention the legality of pot? And at what point did I say that it was okay for children to be raised in ANY of the situations that you described?

Let me save you some time: I didn't, because I'm not a fucking scumbag. As I have said a number of times by now I'm sure, the "pot is not AS BAD" argument is fucking sophomoric at BEST and disingenuous as hell at worst, because as far as I'm concerned, the ideal scenario to raise a child would not include ANY blatant abuse of mind-altering substances in front of them. Why is it acceptable to you and folks like you for this to be true in regards to any substance? (And yes, that includes alcohol, tobacco, and countless other perfectly legal but potentially harmful activities as well.)

As I mentioned above, I am happy to have a respectful, productive argument about anything that I say on this forum (or anywhere else) -- but do not put words into my mouth. I mean what I say and say what I mean. When I have a point to make, I will god damned well make it, and you can bet the farm that it will be crystal fucking clear so that people can't distort or twist my message to fit their own agenda. Keep your petty, childish bullshit to yourself if you can't formulate even the SEMBLANCE of a reasonable, logical argument.

I really cant be bothered collating some links for you, but just check the WorldHealthOrganisation study, not the meta study, but the real, origional study.
Look for the epidemilogical studies. Google is your friend. the Enstrom-Kabat study is one to check out-here Ive got you one link http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/326/7398/1057 )
Ps I dont smoke around children, or in cars with children or non smokers, and all my shit goes away when any family kids visit-its called courtesy.
