Another thing about these is that once its been released into the system you really need to have it drawn back into the outdoor unit before you disconnect the lines.
If you know an HVAC guy he will need to come out there with a bottle of R410. You cant purchase that stuff without a license unless you know someone.
You should see about 120-125lbs of pressure in a 2 ton.

Pretty sure R410 is environmentally friendly and sold to anyone. I purchased a 5gal bottle of it and I don't have a license.

you don't need to be HVAC lic. to buy 410a
but need an EPA card,
at least in florida.
but its easy to get self certified online

read this the other day here on IC
If you do have problems buying the R-410a for a split system you can easily get your self certified. R-410a safety cert. is free and doable online. http://www.epatest.com/R410A/openbook/

To obtain a certification you also need to get the 608 certification, the level I test you can take online and is open book. This is all that you should need to purchase tanks of R-410 from suppliers should you have a problem buying the refrigerant.

Technically there is no requirement to be certified to buy R-410a but many HVAC suppliers are scared to do a sale due to the fines EPA can impose. Ive had best luck purchasing the refrigerant by calling and requesting an invoice prior to purchasing in person with cash.

If they let you "pre order" with an invoice you should have no problem picking up the tank. Just don't ask questions or you risk them canceling the sale, i've also had this happen before. Best of luck to you all.

I had a samsung unit and it worked great. Had a problem guessing the toque on the lines and had to go get a pipe cutter, and flaring tool. I was able to repair the line, purge it with a pump and successfully charge the unit all on my own. Only problem was the Chinglish manual....

Most units have an option to pump down the charge inside the outdoor unit should you have to do a reinstall at another property. Anytime you disconnect the hoses you do need to pull a vacuum on the lines to clear out any moisture in the lines.

Also for folks with extreme cold temperatures look and see if they offer a low ambient temp sensor.... I know such an option is offered on the samsung models.

I have been contemplating one of the breeze units and am now second guessing myself. As someone in a non-med state and a without an HVAC friend, is installing a unit with permanent connections possible to DIY if you are somewhat technically competent?

If you do a lot of research it is possible... I'm not sure I would suggest it though. Vacuuming lines, pumping systems up and down, and especially brazing connections are not something that an unfamiliar person should attempt. I've been in the industry for a little while now and I don't think I'd ever attempt an AC install from the ground up. I've installed one Excel 4-ton unit, and one Excel 5-ton Stealth, but again, those had "quick connect" or "DIY" fittings.

if your competent enough you can DIY
you only need the equipment to do it.
I was going to do my own but the cost of getting vac pumps, gauges and other items were way more than it cost for the install

Thanks for the input. I think i'll still go for the breeze. At $2000, while not necessarily cheap, is still quite a bit less than I make per harvest. If i am careful with the connections, It should last long enough to make it worth not involving anyone else at my location.

I would still recommend the breeze.

I'm pretty sure when I framed out the back wall I cut the clearance from the required minimum 12" to like 8" and thus was choking the unit.

Pulled it out and all seems well.

Glad to hear you got the problem fixed.

Ahhhh, the great unknown.

I'll have to see how the temps are in the winter. For now it keeps it nice and warm in there and that was kind of what I was hoping for as I'll be storing water in this half of the barn. The way I see it is it's free heat. I'll only vent it if it gets too hot in there.

If that's the case I'll probably do a big ass filter and intake on a phason VTC-1D since there will be a tent in that side for seed testing.

Yeah, sometimes it pays to turn to the real world of greenhouse products and away from hydro store junk.

I do still have the one CAP VSC brand new in packaging and I would try that one first but as you know the first one only lasted a week for me.

I'm sure there is a reason CAP stopped selling the VSC's, same reason HydroGalaxy sent me two when I only ordered one I'm sure.

It could be 3rd ...... but i've had no problems at all with the 3 i use & 1 of them is going on 3 years old (knocks on wood :) ) :dunno:

If they do start going bad ... my hydro guy carries the Titans ... i'll try them next . they're right around 110$ .... but still better than 300 !!!!

& I told you about hydrogalaxy !!! that frikkin place is a rip off !!!!

My air handler was not blowing air today. I haven't used my mini in about a month and the last time I did was making bubble hash and tuned it down as low as it would go, I think 64. Ran it that cold for about a week, then took about a month off.

It's a 2 ton quick connect frostbox. So when I tried to run it today nothing was happening. I spun the blower blade with my finger and it sort of jump started it and started spinning & blowing but at a really low speed.. It was cold but about at 1/4 the rate it normally ran. So shut it down at the box and took cover off blower. There is quite a bit of condensation around all of the copper line sets coming into the coil of the blower. Is this my leak?

The oudside connections seem dry but about a week or 2 ago I noticed some water drops around the condenser connect. Didn't think much of it since the unit was not in use.

Anybody have some advice?

Should I get a tech to recharge my lines and make perm connect?

Or is this more of a air handler problem?
