Mini Split Help Desperately Needed!!!

So as of tonight my mini is not cooling as it should.

Water dripping from the indoor head unit and ice on the line set where it connects to the outdoor unit.

Anyone know what has happened and how to fix?

Here is where the line set connects to the compressor/condenser.

These DIY install mini splits are a joke!
They tell you the lines are charged, blah blah blah...
All splits come with the outdoor unit charged, All of them need to be vacuumed or else you end up with air or moisture in the lines.
If there was air introduced into your lines the compressor is fucked.
Hopefully its just a leak and can be refilled.
You should go back and edit you old posts about how much of a "breeze" this was to install.

Another thing about these is that once its been released into the system you really need to have it drawn back into the outdoor unit before you disconnect the lines.
If you know an HVAC guy he will need to come out there with a bottle of R410. You cant purchase that stuff without a license unless you know someone.
You should see about 120-125lbs of pressure in a 2 ton.

These things can also leak from the "flexible" lineset. It might not even be at the connections.
If thats the case its going to be really hard to fix it.

Well I got a HVAC guy I should be able to get over here tomorrow. To be fair it installed just fine. While working near the compressor my drill was knocked off of it and I'm guessing hit the quick connect, although that was last week and it just started this tonight.

It's still cooling, just not enough. For now I've turned off a couple lights and hope I can get it fixed tomorrow.

Did I want a Mitsubishi? Of course I did, some times corners are cut for various reasons and once I'm in a position to swap it out I will. Shouldn't be too long now.

It's all good. I was quoted $5600 for a standard 3 ton ac/heat pump so I went with the easy fix for $2000.

u need to find the leak in freon in your unit fix it and refill freon turn off the compressor or your whole unit will be junk i guarantee it. ive owned 4 of these...

That is a textbook leak in your lines, that's why they're freezing and not cooling efficiently. You need to have your HVAC guy pump the system down, fix the leak, and recharge the system. These quick connect fittings ALWAYS have leaks. I've installed 4 different commercial Excel units with these fittings and they all leak sooner or later.

If this is a permanent setup, have your HVAC guy cut out all those quick connect lines and braze in a closed loop!

Yeah it's a permanent setup. Compressor is in my barn and while working on finishing the 2nd half of it I think it got bumped and thus the problem.

You can actually see the drill sitting on the unit that was knocked off onto the quick connect in the 2nd pic.

i have a mitsu mr slim with the flair fittings.
my installer had reservations about em.
2 wks after install the 410a leaked out from 1 of the fittings.
my man couldn't get to it soon enough.
so i had another hvac come in,
and he didn't like the flair connects either.
prob wasn't with my installer under/over tightening the connections
it was bad factory flair connection that was bad.
i told him to cut it out and braze it, no more probs.

if i get another mini split all fittings will be brazed, permanent installor not.
the extra time/labor is dirt cheap insurance when you consider
relying a fookin $2 flair fitting as the weak link in the chain
and a dropped screw gun can screw up a $15-20K harvest

Well the line seems to be fine. Got the gauges on it and pressure was good.

Thinking it may be a fan or filter problem with he air handler.

Will have to wait till tonight when the lights come on to check it out.

Exactly, spend a little more upfront and don't run into problems later. The most recent room I set up utilized a 5-Ton "Stealth" Excel unit, which was well over $7,000. Excel is a good company and the unit still developed leaks in the factory welds just weeks after a professional installation!

I learned that no matter how well known the company is, quick connect, or "self install" units will always develop problems, it just depends on how long it will take. After our HVAC Tech cut out all the factory lines and brazed in permanent connections, the AC was working half as hard and was keeping the room 10 degrees cooler. Not to mention is greatly reduced the amount of noise coming from the compressor.

I have been contemplating one of the breeze units and am now second guessing myself. As someone in a non-med state and a without an HVAC friend, is installing a unit with permanent connections possible to DIY if you are somewhat technically competent?

if your competent enough you can DIY
you only need the equipment to do it.
I was going to do my own but the cost of getting vac pumps, gauges and other items were way more than it cost for the install
