The molasses (or the sugar in it) helps feed the micro organisms in the soil, helping them break down the last of the nutrients without effecting taste or burn. People claim it adds flavor/weight etc but I think that's rubbish, it just helps with the flush process in my opinion. It feeds the soil without feeding the plant to some extent.
I'm feeding a food grade black strop molasses at 5ml/litre.
I've also been trying an organic "amino" bloom booster called Liquid Lead, which smells like it's largely molasses too.
