Mikado Grow

Hello everyone. After reading about Mikado from Federation seeds, it was in the back of my mind of strains I wanted to grow, but didn't think finding seeds would be too easy. When I saw them on seedbay a month or two ago, I knew it was time to make an order. So anyway, I decided to germ 4 out of the 10, because I was starting some other seeds at the same time. The shells are fairly hard, and the Mikados took a little longer than the others to crack, but eventually 3/4 had nice little tails. The other never popped, but I gave up after 4 days. So at this point, they are roughly two weeks old, and all 3 are looking pretty good:

General info: 50% organic soil, 25% perlite, 20% sphagmum peat moss, 5% worm castings
started in 16 oz cups
veg under 220W T5 flourescent
will be flowered under 1000W HPS
no fertilizer yet, but I use a combination of blackstrap molasses, peruvian seabird guano, jamaican bat guano, organic tomato food, earth juice microblast, and epsom salts, different mixes at different stages

Thanks for stopping by Indo. This seed run I'll be looking for both mothers and fathers, so I'd actually be just as happy with a good looking male as a good looking female, hopefully I get both. Good luck with your pack.

I'll be watching this one... I have a pack in the seed stash too!

Looks like you are off to a great start Dr. I'm curious... what other beans did you pop at the same time as the Mikado?

Mais~

i'm definitely pulling up a chair for this one. i got some mikado on the way from seedbay right now in fact. the short flower time sounds great. how long are you gonna veg before you flower?

What's up guys.
Mais- I've also got a few Romulans, also from Federation, though they are acting a little strange:
http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=44487
And also my own cross of Sour Bubble BX3 X Sour Diesel IBL:
http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=44534
onthatlevel- when I grow from seed I'm usually fairly anxious to see what the results are gonna be like, so I usually flower when they are big enough to take clones. This is usually between 5-7 weeks from seed, but it depends on things like vigor and branchiness. . .

I have a minor thrips problem in my veg room, maybe a couple fungus gnats flying around too, just about time to spray some more neem oil, but no big deal. Definitely no spider mites, knock on wood. Thank you for your concern though, sourdaddy.

Mmmm, i like the sound of this one. does anyone have a smoke/grow report for Mikado?

I would personally love to learn more about the phenos that are the best, and what she needs to grow to her maximum. What is the smoke like?

Thanks for the show Dr. Katz

grew pre-2000 mikado seeds. no fuss no muss, above average yielder, cloning takes a little longer than other strains. had two phenos: 1. grapefruit smelling 2. raspberry/berry smelling. grapefruit tasted as such, smooth smoke and heavy high almost anxious at some point, finished 65 days. raspberry pheno was softer smoking and more mellow high, finished at 50-55 days. when its your only herb kicking around you'll notice a tolerance, defininately not "ceilingless"....i kept the grapefruit pheno, friends still go nuts for it.

All right, everything is transplanted into 1 gallon pots, and looking good. I'll have some pics in a few minutes. One seems to be stretching more than the other two, and I think I'm probably 2-3 weeks from being able to sex them. Stay tuned!

Ok, first up we have one of the shorter sqatter plants:

Next, just slightly taller, but nice and stocky too:

Last, this one is stretching a little, but still looks good all around imo:

I know lots of other people picked up these beans in the last couple months, lets see some pics guys!

Mikado is one of my favorite strains. It will do reasonable at 6 weeks but From watching the trichs I am finding it is better to go 7 1/2 to 8 weeks for peak potential. Taste has always been a big part of the whole smoking experience, and thats one of the reasons I like it so much.
They have the potential to be really good yielders too. I like to finish them at about 5 ft.mark (inc.pot). 6 of them in a closet under twin 430son agros yields between 1.6 to 2.2 lbs. of some of the finest bud you can smoke.

Strangely enough the auto flowering in Mikado seems to have a temperature trigger. Dropping your night temps below 65f will flower them as fast as changing light cycles. When this happens it seems the growth cycle really takes off.

All of the Mikado I have grown has been colorfull purples and pinks, some flouresent in brightness. Indoors or out unless pulled early they should be major colorfull. Frosty to the ninth degree as well. Large chunky crystals instead of fine and tiny like widow buds.

I've always wondered how Mikado would do, been interested in this strain for quite some time. Actually alot of Federations seeds have looked tempting but I haven't seen any grows done with their genetics. Anyways goodluck on your grow, looks like you're off to a nice start.

Sorry guys, been focusing on the plants that are nearing the chop, as they make for much prettier pictures. I put the two branchiest (and thus cloneable) into flower about a week ago, and the tallest (but least bushy) started 12/12 a couple days ago. So far, I have 1 confirmed female, and it was my favorite of the 3 :woohoo: The second-best looking is starting to look male, but I'm not 100% sure yet. The last one to go into flower is just starting to show some preflowers, but too early to sex. I've taken clones of everything, and I'll get some more pics as soon as everything is showing sex. Take it easy everyone.
