that's what I meant about 600s being a pita with halides,
trying to find any kind of variety of Mh is close to impossible.

thanks RB56...
going to veg for at least another 10 days and do it again.
I found plenty of keepers in this round so I'll be set for quite a while

i dont know if theres a difference in yield, but i have heard that the blue UV in the metal halide might have an effect on trichome production

i found 400w MH that is 4200K. would that work? the thing is that they sell those in my country as normal consturction lamps as not meant for growing anything, so does it matter or the most important thing is the specs of the lamp?

hi TG4L,
it's hard to break from hps when your doing good, a leap of faith so to say.
I doubt i'll ever use hps again.
you can't go wrong using a 4000K MH bulb.

seems like a 4200K would do the trick flora.
if i had to pick between a 4200K or a 3800K I'd take just over 4000K.... period.

the bulb in the link is a dual bulb, didn't really get what that was about?

lol. i cancelled that order. i have no idea what is a dual bulb :D i barely know anything about bulbs afterall, i would appreticate if you could describe more about the bulb that is meant for growing or link me one (400w)

thx!

flora,
I'm thinking a dual bulb in the link is a dual arc bulb that has hps and mh together.
i'm not a big fan of those because in the 1000w dual arc you have a 600whps and 400wmh but you have to keep the distance from the plants for a 1000w bulbs heat,
it would seem your losing lite intensity keeping the bulb further away from optimal distance for the 400/600w.
but, if you can get it close enough with out burning the plants seems you'd be fine??

EDITED FOR:Ive never tried a dual arc, so this is just my thoughts

btw are you in england? that link to amazon was.
i really don't kno any places to get stuff there.
just look for **ANY** 4000K mh bulb for your wattage used.
it doesn't have to be a **gro** bulb.
check places like 1000bulbs.com

Yep... same set up here.
600w HPS in hood|1000w MH vertical|600w HPS in Hood
...........Plant...........Plant ......Plant............Plant.........
Loving the results.

I've see these posts quite bit, over and over.
it hit me 1/2 way into my mh vs hps thread
maybe it's not the 2 spectrums together that are giving the
"loving the results" reviews.

if adding Mh to the HPS gro gives better...? :shucks:
then a logical line of reasoning may lead to going with a 50/50 mix mh/hps could possibly be even better? :shucks:
which upon further thought may lead to.....maybe hps has nothing to do with it? :chin:

ID def say that the dual arc bulbs are junk.I bought a used 600w ballast with a new dual arc bulb..After a week i was done with dual arc bulbs. My ushio halides provide the best results flowering or veg..Def not an economy bulb at 90 a pop for a 600

That's entirely contrary to my own experience w/ a plantmax 1000w dual arc. Apparently now on sale at 1000bulbs for $50 ea-

I'm ordering 2 more.

I'd very much like to try Gnome's MH bulb & the CMH860, but my cooling circumstances demand a horizontal bulb in a vent hood.
