Just doing one plant this time. DWC (5 gallon bucket + 6" netpot lid) in a 3X4X6 indoor tent, under 2 NextLight 150H LED lights. Average temp = 77, RH 30-50% (Arizona, indoors).

1 - Mephisto Creme de la Chem Fem Auto F5- Multiverse Beans ( https://www.multiversebeans.com/product-page/creme-de-la-chem-mehpisto-genetics )

08/15/2022: Dropped seed in 1 tsp H2O2 + 5tsp RO water for 6 hours, then drained and replaced with 6 tsp RO water (7.0pH, 0ppm).
08/16/2022: Seed showing signs of cracking, so I dropped it into a 40/40 ihort Q plug (1/8" deep, under a torn-off corner piece), where it will spend the rest of its life
08/17/2022: Seed starting to push up the covering. Prepped hydroton, bucket, netpot lid for eventual receipt of the new girl.

08/18/2022 7:00pm: OK, so apparently she's got shit to do. She pushed up an inch already, and has already thrown a 3/4" tail through the bottom of the plug. Put the plug into pH'd Hydroton. Going to top water (mist, 7.0 pH/0 ppm) for the next day or two (under a 60W CFL that I use for seedlings), then I'll get her over water and under the LEDs. I'm hoping I've broken my habit of drowning these poor things.

These plugs really are the bomb. I'll try Rapid Rooters one day, but for now I'm loving these plugs. I never get seedlings to take off this fast in any other medium, and rockwool and I just don't get along (root/stem rot).

08/21/2022: Mixed starter solution:
  • 1 gallon RO: 0 PPM, ? pH
  • 2 ml Cal-Mag: 70 ppm, ? pH
  • 1.0 ml GH Flora Micro: 190ppm, ? pH
  • 1.0ml GH FloraNova Grow: 450ppm, ? pH
  • 1.0ml GH Flora Nova Bloom: 750ppm, 5.0 pH
  • 5ml Hydroguard
  • 4-5 drops GH pH UP: 825ppm, 5.9 pH
Added 1/4 gallon of above solution to 1.5 gallons of RO already in reservoir. Then poured 1/2 Solo cup FROM RES over hydroton as top-feed.

This brought the res to 150ppm/5.9pH/water dropping slowly

08/25/2022: Primary leaves deployed. Secondary leaves developing. Looking a little on the yellow side, might bump nutes soon.
  • 220ppm (rising)
  • 6.2 + 4 drops Down to 5.7 (rising)
  • Level: dropping

08/26/2022: Deployed NextLight 150H at 25%. 8" over top of plant. Tap root coming down from net pot bottom.

08/27/2022: Moving along nicely, but still a little yellow, so I added another quart of solution to the res, bringing it from/to:
  • 210ppm (falling slowly) / 310ppm
  • 6.2 + 5 drops Down to 5.7pH
  • Level: Slowly dropping

08/29/2022: Predictable pH rise, but not too bad. Tap root is throwing nodes and air roots.
  • 310ppm (flat)
  • 6.1 + 5 drops pH down to 5.1 (oops) + 5 drops Up to 5.7pH
  • Level: Dropping

Want to let the level drop a bit, to get below bottom of net pot.

08/31/2022: Predictable pH rise. Roots looking great!

  • 330ppm (rising?)
  • 6.1+3 drops Down to 5.7
  • Level: dropping
Hmm. Need to check the chart. EC rising is interesting. Might just be water loss? Not going to change anything just yet, because she is really taking off.

09/02/2022: Primary leaves showing signs of CAl/Mag deficiency? Posted thread about it here: https://www.icmag.com/threads/help-...-dwc-creme-de-la-chem.18124167/#post-18191700

09/03/2022: Bumped solution to 500ppm/5.8pH. We'll see if that helps.

09/05/2022: I had bumped up the nutes to 500 48 hours ago, and the problem is getting worse. I did a res change, and used:2 gal RO water (0ppm/7.0 pH)
  • 5 ml Botanicare Cal Mag
  • 5ml GH Flora Nova Bloom
  • 10ml HydroGuard
  • 5 drops GH pH Down
This took me to 550ppm (500 scale, so 1.1 EC), at 5.8 pH (Apera pen, BlueLabs pen, litmus strip within .1 of each other, both meters calibrated 4/7/10 prior to use).

We shall see...

09/06/2022:
Mixed:
  • 2 gal RO water (0 EC, 7.0 pH)
  • 5ml Maxi Bloom
  • 1/8 tsp (.5 gram) Epsom (Magnesium Sulfate USP, 9.8% Mg, 12.9% Sulfur), Saltworks brand
  • 2 tsp Hydroguard
Post mix (in that order above), it was at 1.0 EC (510ppm on 500 scale, 511 micro-Siemens on the cheapie meter). pH was at 4.5, so about 60 drops of pH Up brought me to 5.8.

***************

Checkpoint 09/07/2022 8:00pm: Added 1/2tsp Maxi Bloom to the remaining 1/2 gallon of res solution, and a 1/2tsp of Epsom. Took the EC to like 3.4 or something and 4.5 pH, as a feed. Added roughly 2 cups of that to the rez, to bring the EC to 1.2 (600ppm on .5), and slammed the pH down to 5.4. She's looking a little better (loss not advancing as quickly), so fingers crossed that this was a Mag deficiency, and potentially too much Cal? Who knows. Roots look great, she's definitely growing.

09/08/2022 22:00 - Looking much better now. Roots are snow white, she's looking pretty lush green. I'm hoping she's on the road to recovery.

Begin:
EC at 1.2 / 580ppm, pH at 5.8, solution level dropping.

After res solution add:
EC at 1.3 / 650ppm, pH at 5.7, 1/4" below 2nd line

Time to start LST soon? Should you LST autos/CLDC?

09/09/2022 10:00am - Starting to see brown spots pop up again. Lowered the light intensity, and foliar sprayed with Epsom solution. Once the spray dries, I'll take the lights back up to 50%. She's still growing, and looks a lot more green, but I'd really like to get my hands around this spotting issue.

An pics mate ?

:tiphat:
Hey! Thought you'd never ask. Been meaning to get around to backfilling pics into the diary. I'll attach some in the posts above, as edits, here in a bit.

Edit: Pics added. Thanks for keeping me honest!

Cheers!

09/09/2022 19:00 -

Before:
1.3EC/620ppm (falling)
5.7pH (flat)
Level falling (1/4" below line)

Going to add 1/4tsp Epsom salt to solution (1.75 gal), and feed a bit to get up to 700ppm. 1/4ish tsp of Epsom bumped ppm up 30ppm, few cups of super-strong feed plus 6 drops ph UP brought it to:
1.4EC/700ppm
5.8 pH
Level = 2.5 hash marks (a little high, but I needed extra water to balance the ppm...)

09/11/2022 14:30 - Did some LST last night (8 branches gently tied down). She's looking great! I think we're out of the woods for now. Lush green, growing like crazy, smells amazing, roots are still going crazy.

Solution level is dropping 1/4" per day. I'm not going to add any more solution today, just let it ride. Maybe tomorrow.

All damage seen on lower leaves is existing, and no new damage (fingers crossed!).

1.4EC (690ppm) / 5.8 pH / Falling; almost perfect:

09/12/2022 22:00 - Starting to see brown spots again. Hit the leaves with Epsom foliar spray.

Replenished nute solution to 2nd hash mark (1" below net pot).

Before:
  • 680ppm/1.4 EC
  • 5.9 pH
  • Falling

After:
  • 700ppm/1.4 EC
  • 5.9 pH
  • 2nd hashmark

09/13/23:00 - Hit up Reddit, everyone is thinking Calcium deficiency. Added 1/2tsp Cal Mag (120ppm looks like).

Before Cal Mag add:
  • 670ppm/1.4 EC (fallinging)
  • 6.1 pH (rising)
  • Solution falling

After CM add:
  • 790/1.6
  • 6.1 pH
  • 1/4" below 2nd hash
I'm starting to realize: Autos are more finicky than I thought. As if my Super Lemon Haze and Wedding Cake autos didn't go sideways on me...

09/14/2022 22:00 - Starting to see hints of white pistils. Plant is growing like crazy. Got a bottle of GH CaliMagic in, and decided to to a res change:
  • 2 gal RO water
  • 2 tsp CaliMagic (300ppm/0.6EC; 7.6pH)
  • 8 grams MaxiBloom (910ppm/1.8EC; 4.1ph)
  • 75 drops pH UP (910ppm/1.8EC; 6.0pH)
  • 2 tsp Hydroguard
Wanted higher pH to give the roots a better chance of uptaking Cal/Mag. We'll see what happens from here.

09/18/2022 18:00 - That was WAY too hot. Tips curling down, clawing. Flushed with 2 gallons of RO with 2 ml of CaliMagic seems to have calmed her down.

09/19/2022 18:00 - Mixed new nutes, and upgraded to the 5 gallon bucket. Specs:
  • 4 gallons RO water
  • 4 tsp CaliMagic (350ppm / ?pH)
  • 8 grams MaxiBloom (650ppm / 4.5pH)
  • 45 or so drops pH UP (650ppm / 5.8pH)
  • 4 tsp Hydroguard

09/20/2022 22:00 - Well, she's still hanging in there, and she's DEFINITELY in flower. Huge stretches, some LST to keep it at bay. Despite the Calcium issue (which GH CaliMagic+ seems to have resolved), she's rockin' along.

pH Rising rapidly (6.5 ! ), Level dropping quickly (1" below tape line), ppm -100 Backfilled with 1/2 gallon of res juice (from above), bringing it to:
  • 600ppm
  • 5.8 (after 15 drops of pH DOWN)

Will try and mix 4 gallons of solution, at 700 or so, tomorrow, for feed. She's hungry now, but I don't want to burn her again.
