Mental health risk & MJ

I know people that can not smoke because they get paranoid and have anxiety attacks.
It is true, but these people usually just decide to stop doing cannabis by themselves, and then the problem is solved.

Those who do not stop smoking even when it makes them feel bad had some kind of mental problem in the first place, it is maybe a manifestation of some kind of self destructive behaviour or s.th. like that. Why else would you keep puffing when it feels unpleasent and makes you paranoid?

9Lives glad to hear someone else knows what i'm talking about! i find when getting into weird petty arguments with those kinds of people i often think it feels kind of like a bad trip; surreal, irritating, interminable and a huge waste of time and mental energy...the funny thing is when u try to disengage from those types of people and just get away from them then they get all clingy and act like you're abandoning them, then if u start talking to them again all of sudden there is some weird crisis that conflagrates out of nothing...i used to think astrology was bullshit but now i do prefer if the girl i'm dating was born in the first third of the year...i won't even call a girl if she's a scorpio (sorry to offend but IME they're powder kegs)...

Astrology is weird man..im an aquarius myself..and i can almost always relate to other aquarian women..strong independent and sexy. What more can you ask for ? :yoinks:

that article is a load of crap. "super strength" joints? 12% THC on average in the UK, I dont think so. 18% in Holland?, no thats crap. It reads pretty much the same as all the other propaganda articles, nothing new at all. So what is someone used MRI, they didnt even gather any relevant data. I want to at least see real figures and citations.

The correlation between Cannabis use and mental illness is difficult to pin down. Statistics are a funny thing, you can find a correlation, but to show one factor causes another is something completely different. People tend to take statistics at face value, without questioning how they where derived, or what those figures are actually saying.

For example I read a statistic in a propaganda pamphlet which stated (not referenced at all by the way) that people who smoke MJ are four times more likely to be involved in violent crime. Now, its absurd to think that MJ makes you violent, its opposite, but in the context of this pamphlet, thats what they were saying. Assuming this statistic is actually true, which it probably is not, its not the demon weed which causes violence, but rather a cultural thing. ie, people involved in criminal culture generally take more drugs and a lot of them smoke weed.

Similarly, when they try to show weed caused psychosis, a survey of psychotic patients may show that some of them have smoked weed. This does not show the herb caused their psychosis. For example a lot of those psychotic patients who smoked weed may have also taken acid and mushrooms, amphetamines, etc. Because weed is the 'softest' illegal drug, anyone involved in drug culture is likely also to smoke weed, thereby effecting the statistics. thats just one example, but basically it gets very complex to show one thing causes another. It is much easier just to use statistics in a mis representative way.

Don't you see what they did? They isolated THC and injected people with it, or gave it to them straight... which basically causes the same problems that Marinol does. Marinol can cause catatonic/schizophrenic-like states. If anything, this research is good, because if you have panic problems, you should get a lot more CBD in the strains you want because it tones down the catatonic/schizophrenic-like states from high amounts of THC.

I'm sure if you extracted nicotine from a tobacco plant and injected people with it, you'd find a toxicity level and find it to be neurotoxic. Oh, wait, it already is.

When you smoke weed you are burning more than just THC. There are other chemicals in the smoke that modulate THC, like CBD, which is why most people don't completely trip out on weed and have a good time.

I've smoked some early-harvested, chemmy weed... that was supposed to be a pure indica (or close at least)...and the stuff gave me para SOOOOOO bad. And others I gave it to also.

I now seem to have a theory that you can judge the high by the smell. If its danky, earthy, musty... its going to be more chill.

If it smells very florally...light... sorta that tart pungency...then its going to be more euphoric, and uppy.

And if it just smells chemically...grassy..like very strong and sharp... its going to be a very high THC high... para, totally mental...racey, etc.

This is all just a theory in its ground stages. I really don't have enough experience yet.

But I think you need to be careful with weed now. If you grow hydro, or even sometimes soil....a plant can build higher doses of elements then it should have, becuase the soil blocks certain nutrients and the plant will pull up way too much of the other ones. This causes toxicity in the plant. So when you smoke it, you get a LOT of a handful of elements say, instaed of a balance of them...

So just because you have a weed plant, does not mean its healing. It depends on how its grown.

I only think its HEALING, if its grown in a natural way. As close to nature as possible. Or at least with a lot of care. It seems a lot of hydro growers just do it for the cash, and because of that don't really pay attention to how good of an effect it is... so you get a bunch of stuff that LOOKS like marijuana, but doens't produce the effects that marijuana should.

This is a very complicated subject. But just because something looks like marijuana, doesn't mean the flower is actually expressing itself the way it should.

^^^ Exactly...

There is a huge difference in highs and lows between strains and even with the same strain flushed and cured well... What exactly were they feeding these test patients??

Indicad2006, I found something today that I think will help you out big time in preventing anxiety from stimulants and its called Guggul. It's a resin from a tree in india that effects the thyroid gland BUT in a healthy non-toxic way.

The reason why I say it would help you is because you might have a problem with your beta receptors and they might be in low concentration and also weak. What Guggule does is stimulate the thyroid to increase it's rate of hormones being released and this increases beta receptor sites granted you eat a good amount of carbohydrates and not on a low carb diet. If you are the hormones will decrease your muscle mass and you don't want that.

Taking this along with vitamin C(500 mg-1000mg), 30 minutes before you smoke to make sure all the chemicals needed will be made, will keep you from having problems with stimulants.

THC is a stimulant and releases epinephrine(adrenaline) just like caffeine and therefore effects beta receptors so this would work with cannabis use also.

Also caffeine in tea and coffee will actually keep the high going which means less will be puffed and you won't get lazy because caffeine inhibits c-amp which basically means more energy and more of an effect from the herb for a longer time.

I think you should stay in the 2%-7% range of gugglesterones when buying a bottle of pills because if taking higher some people might get hot and reach 101 temperature plus studies were done in the 2%-7% range and I don't know what happens if you go higher.

Here is a good brand that doesn't have fillers and is in a good range:

NATURE'S WAY Guggul - Standardized Extract

Here's a review and to help you understand a little bit more about it:

Yeah, I was really high when I posted, but what they did was extract only THC and use that to test with. You can't do that. It's about as scientific as using heroin to draw conclusions about the poppy.

Know this: CBD (cannabidol, I think) modulates the part of your body that would otherwise freak out from just getting ONLY THC. To me, all they've proven is that in the cannabis plant, CBD is a mood elevator and/or a partial sedative/anti-anxiety med.

If you like freaking out, get a HIGH THC and low CBD strain. If you like your sanity, get a strain that has higher than average CBD.

I think Sativex uses a 50/50 mixture THC/CBD to prevent you from actually getting high...

*whispers*: its all in the mind...

but seriously, if you know weed isnt for you DONT smoke it.

just like i get pretty angry or get into some sort of trouble when i drink hard alcohol, so i rarely drink it, and am sure not to drink too much of it when i do.

also, it has to do with the situation and mindset you are in...

its all about the mindset..... "you have to be water"

ahh forget it..... SUCK A DICK GOVERNMENT

blaZe it UUUUUUUUUUUUUUp

18 and Doh!
FINALLY AN ARTICLE WRITES IT IN A WAY I CAN AGREE WITH

"heavy consumption of the drug triggers psychosis and schizophrenia IN A SMALL NUMBER OF PEOPLE"

Fucking finally. That "in a small number of people" is what I had against those other articles that said stuff like "IF you smoke you will become crazy".

I agree that some people do get problems from weed but as the article admits (finally) it is only in a small number of people.

Lotty thanks, but I don't really need stimulants anymore. As long as I get enough sleep/darkness... I feel great usually. So I don't really use caffeine much anymore. Recently got in the habit of using it in the mornings again but I'm going to stop that for awhile.
