Hello ICmag, first id like to say that im stoked to see that the information void from the loss of OG has been filled.
So, I am getting my cali med card very soon, and am setting up a grow room. Ive been doing lots of reading here in the past week and making a list of supplies.
The room:
I plan on building a fully sealed room made of 4x8' insulation material (used for houses) inside the bedroom, with a 6 inch gap between the two walls for added insulation. The room will be approximately 10x10, maybe 12x10. The floor will be covered in plastic. The entire house will be cleaned an bug bombed prior to building. No one will ever visit the house except extremely close friends, and no one with dreadlocks and spider mite infested plants will come near me.
The lights:
I am starting with 2 600w lamps, housed in Daystar AC hoods, powered my a Gro Pro 600w dual output balalst. The ballast will be located outside of the room. The two hood will be ventilated separately from the grow space by a 6" Vortex inline fan, pulling air from outside, through the hoods, and out of the room (possibly into the hosue for heat in the winter). I will use a fan speed controller on the Vortex. I have yet to decide on a bulb.
I have chosen to use the simple 110v wall outlets for power, using different breakers to for the ballast, fans, etc. The wiring in the house is solid. Lights will by hung from a PVC frame, with those yo-yo height adjusters.
The Medium:
I am an experience outdoor guerilla grower, so indoors is a bit of a new sport. I developed very good organic soil methods outdoor, and plan to keep using organic soil mixes. I will use pots, watered by a central reservior to make my life easier. A tray will connect the pots and be sloped to collect the water run off.
The Grow:
I have some special genetics from some friends. Plants will be vegged and trained. Each light will cover a 3x4 area (maybe less). I plan on experimenting with a SCROG under one light, with the other using heavily trained plants.
The inner room will be vented with an 8" Vortex inline fan, on a speed controller, into a carbon scrubber. Air will enter the room from the outside.
Atleast one oscilating fan will be inside the room to stir up the air.
Ventilation lines will be insulated and kept as straight as possible, avoiding 90 degree bends if possible. Ducts will go up into the ceiling to an attic.
Vegging will be done under the HPS, although I may have the budget to get a conversion bulb, or a switchable ballast.
Remaining issues:
-I chose magnetic ballasts over electronic because of the info I read in multiple threads that leads me to beleive the technolgy is not yet perfect.
-I have not decided on buying a carbon scrubber vs building one. I still have atleast a month to figure that one out.
-I will eventually be upgrading my room, eventually running atleast 4 600W lights, in seperate rooms. I can legally have 10 flower plants, and 10 veg. Cards can be compounded in a house, and i may take on a card bearing room mate.
-I am open to the idea of hydroponics. I have considered DWC over other methods. A 3rd light may be set up to experiment.
I think that is about it. Any and all input is greatly appreciated. I will draw up some diagrams eventually.
BTW I like above 6000ft, and winters are fairly cold. Not VT cold, but still cold. Summer temps rarely break 80.
peace
