To be honest, i'm kind of torn. On one hand, the whale is a noble and beautiful creature. On the other hand, Japan has a long history of harvesting whale. I do have a question though..how many folks preach one country not interferring in another country but yet have no problem telling a country what they can and can't harvest and eat? Thank God, it's known as the "enlighted few". But they are a noisy/nosy bunch.

Old Fool, you have that right my friend! Let the US Government get involved and thump Japan for killing to many whales and watch how fast these same people jump sides and start criticizing the US for telling others how to live.

I dislike whale killers, however, I dislike hyporcrites as well.

I don't think people are just protesting the hunting of the whales but the hunting methods and mismanagement of their numbers. The current population is not sustainable at the present rate of hunting and is likely to drive the species to extinction.

So I think you can be interested in eating whale meat or be for the Japanese maintaining their traditions but also be concerned about losing a rare and beautiful species forever due to poor planning.

Maybe they could change their habits? I mean, lots of people in the old days used to spit their chewing tobacco into spitoons. You don't see people do that anymore. When I was little I used to suck my thumb. I got rid of that habit, which I appreciate now, in hindsight.

Poor people in Haiti have developed a bad habit of eating mud (their economy really sucks) lately, maybe if we helped them out they could kick that habit:

Perhaps send them some of those whale burgers...

Damned mud eaters in Haiti! Don't they know that ruins the ecology? We should just nuke them and see how they like radioactive mud!

Exactly, Sammet, it's exactly why I said I was torn.
Rosy, maybe someone should tell them to plant a seed in that dirt instead of eating it. While they are at it they should tell them to quit cutting down their trees.

Old Fool, many people never stop to realize that a tree is a living thing, not that different from a tall, leafy dog that has roots and is very quite.
