como estas ya'll!

Welcome to a PPK grow of Bluestarseedco's Mayberry s1 from the Blue Star line.

Blue Star = Death Star x Whitaker Blues

Death Star = Sour Diesel x Sensi Star

Whitaker Blues = Quimby x DJ Short 98 F4 Blueberry

Josh Blue is the breeder and here is his description; "Blueberry pie dessert wine" and "Truly unique connoisseur quality herb. she makes me feel like i'm sitting on the beach with a mojito in my hand, just soaking up the sun with the most gentle warm breeze encompassing my whole body. she scores a perfect 10+ on all these categories for me."

10+ Euphoria
10+ Bliss
10+ Relaxation
10+ Aroma
10+ Flavor

also, from Josh;

"A lot, lot, lot, of time, work, and love went into this strain. The male selection alone was extremely thorough, trying to find the best combination of parents to bring out the most outstanding blueberry phenos. I grew out 60 males from DJ's f4 Blueberry offspring. From there, I reduced down to 30 males to reverse to the female form. This test was done to see the potential traits that they "possibly" could pass on in female form to the cross. I then selected the best 10 males for their aroma and trichome production. then the fun really started by having to test out all 10 males separately crossed to Death Star clones."

"BLUE STAR is the pinnacle of my work. she was sprouted around 2015. Still my favorite plant after trying countless elite clones and seed strains from around the globe. It's all about the effect, or how it makes you feel. What enhances those effects and drives them, is the combination of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. All these together make up the experience of 'effect'.

Death Star bred by Team Deathstar
Whitaker Blues bred by @secondgeneration genetics

I met Josh personally in Oregon while he was out there on a business trip. We had a pleasant few hours solving the world's problems.

He toured my little facility and we talked about genetics.

I was extremely impressed with his sincere desire to help people.

His knowledge accumulation on the subject of cannabis breeding goes back to 1994.

He is also well-vetted in the seed business as an honest, ethical, person who always does what he promises. A character trait i'm finding harder to come by every day.

Here is the plant.

i have it in a version of the PPK hydroponic flow pattern.

today is exactly 1 week from transplant as a clone about 8".

i have spent the first week ramping up the light to the 1500 umol level where it is today.

i'm using a vegetative light schedule of 6 hours on and 6 off.

this is delivering about 64 moles of total light per diurnal period.

i'm using diy fixtures made with screw-in leds.

all 5000k bulbs for veg but i will add 2700k bulbs at a ratio of 60/40 blue/red.

i'm using the famous jack's 3-2-1 formula as a base with kelp powder and fulvic in the recirculating continuous liquid feed.

the media is chunky perlite amended with worm castings and diatomaceous earth.

I feel privileged to be able to grow this plant.

i hope you all enjoy the show!

thank you, can i call you "creep" for short? just playing!

how can i change the location of this thread to the front page of Cannabis Strains and Breeding?

i thought i was putting it there and screwed up somewhere, of course!

.here we are at end of week two from transplant.

growing well despite fighting low rh and temp swings.

no co2

i'm in a drafty 1940's farmhouse temporarily while i'm building a home nearby.

i have not been able to maintain the 6 on, 6 off schedule with 1500 umols of light because of these problems.

the plant was not responding well to these conditions.

i am running 18/6 at around 1000 umols right now.

this change stabilized conditions and the plant is looking more "comfortable".

i start all clones in this device at a heavy watering schedule initially and then dial back the frequency while maintaining the same volume per event.

i'm in love with the architecture. with all the sativa influence in it's background it is still growing a self-supporting, compact bush.

the stem is fully 1/2" in diameter at 2 weeks.

later for now!

time for the end of week 3 update!

finally getting past the low humidity and temp swing issue.

it is in a 22" wide container for reference. almost as wide as it is tall.

i had to drop the light flow down to about 700 umols for a while. i have been increasing it slowly since and now we are back up to about 1000 umols again for the 18 hours.

i haven't done anything to the plant except pluck a few lower leaves

it is shaping like this under a heavily blue-weighted spectrum.

the first 2 weeks were with 5000k only. the 3rd week had 38.5% 2700k bulbs.

very thick, strong, structure. stem rubs are getting interesting.

end of 5 weeks since transplant. 5 days into flower.

plants A and B

they spent the first 2 weeks with 5000k only, the second 2 weeks with 38.5 % 2700k, and the last 5 days with 66% 2700k bulbs.

the reservoirs are running around 1000 ppm or ec2 at 5.9-6.0 ph.

no solution has been removed from the system. input only since day 1.

i have just cleaned up the bottoms and removed some large fan leaves.

other than that not much has been done to them.

this plant is a grower's dream in that it shapes beautifully without any help. it seems to want to grow bush style, which is the ideal type for indoor.

stem rubs are now loaded with aroma. my wife says that she can smell the blueberry already.

Very nice. Scored a pack of the 90's Blues and 4 of these came with it. Very nice pairing as I can see using a male from the 90Bs to hit the Mayberry with. Great combo, big shout out to DJ and Josh Blue for the work on these.

Can't wait to see and hear about the finished product Delta!

thank you all for the kind comments!

i talked earlier about the high dli grows i have done in the last year or so.

i've grown 5 different strains and two pheno hunts sog style in this same version of the ppk.

all of those plants loved the high-intensity 6 on- 6 off routine in veg.

and then i flowered them using 1500+ umols 8 on- 16 off. they grew just fine and produced nice flowers.

this plant, Mayberry, grows very fast and vigorously using lower light inputs.

it most definitely did not like the 1500 umol 6 and 6 treatment and began showing stress almost immediately.

i've never grown the plant before and didn't want to fuck it up experimenting so i went to the old, reliable 18-6.

and it straightened out right away so, although i initially had temp and rh problems and thought maybe that was influencing or exacerbating the problem, it was simply too much light too soon.

because of the 18-hour exposure, i set the dli at 45.36 by applying 700 umols for the period.

the plant loved it and you see the results above.

everyone is going to be shocked when i update photos next monday. today is one week in flower and they are going for it.

i'm using a 12 hr flowering period instead of 8 so i'm applying about 1200 umols for the period resulting in about 51.84 moles delivered. as you can see they like it.

i've been playing around with led power levels and i am learning quite a bit about leds, spectral distribution for cannabis, beam angles and overlap.

you would think a fucking light would be simpler to understand than all this but if you want to grow quality you have got to do this kind of thinking.

in response to this plant and the way it grows, i have reduced both fixtures to 60 14-watt bulbs which is 840 watts of electrical consumption each.

since i went to 12/12 we have 40 2700k bulbs and 20 5000k bulbs.

in the past grows i used 50/50 and produced some nice flowers, totally covered in trichs and potent.

i'm testing other info from research papers about flower expansion by shifting more toward the red side.

the success of any grow is dependent primarily, first and foremost, on genetics.

when designing a facility of your own, wouldn't it be better to use genetics that don't need high levels of light?

because higher light levels also require higher cooling costs and higher nutrient consumption.

i am honestly shocked at how this plant is growing with lower inputs than the ones i've just grown in the same device.

it is simply outperforming those genetics with less energy input.

today is end of week 6 since the transplant and the 12th day of flower.

pictures are:

plant A overall and canopy. readings from it's reservoir.

plant B overall and flower.

no solution has been removed from the system, only input. showing 990 ppm and 5.8 ph.

i'm still not doing much to the plants except popping off large fans blocking light to bud sites.

i want to remind everyone that both of these plants are being grown under 840 watts of walmart's finest screw-in led bulbs.

still 40 2700k and 20 5000k bulbs in each.

looking at plants A and B you can see that plant B has more branches and a tighter structure. it is what i call a "busy" plant.

i caused the tighter structure on plant B by giving it too much overall light in early veg.

both plants were getting the same spot readings at the top dead center but
B was getting almost twice the total wattage if that makes sense.

it probably will not yield as much as i have had to remove a lot more material from it.

the A plant is shaped better. it has spread out better.

so i have to apologize to [email protected] for messing up the plant.

in retrospect, both were flipped too late to grow them as a compact bush. i should have flipped this plant at 3 weeks instead of 30 days.

next time!

btw, it stinks real good!
