This is what all those non-binding votes that have won in landslides again and again since 2000 have been working towards. Please visit the link to see more details, and more importantly see the representatives that will be attending the hearing, and give your representative a call to make sure they're in full support of the legislation! If you don't want to call, write a quick email or letter, you can help the cause!

Highlights of proposed legislation:
- possession of less than an ounce of marijuana a civil violation subject to civil fine of $100;
- eliminates the authority of the police to handcuff a person over 17 years of age for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana;
- persons under the age of seventeen may be held until they and the citation are delivered to a parent, legal guardian, or to the clerk of the district court having jurisdiction;
- a citation for possessing less than an ounce may be paid by mail, just like a motor vehicle violation; and,
- where an ounce or more is possessed at arraignment the Court must treat the crime as a civil infraction and impose a civil fine that could not exceed five hundred dollars.
- this bill does not change the criminal laws prohibiting: driving under the influence; cultivating, distributing or trafficking in marijuana.

i've got my colas crossed for this step in the right direction to happen...
