"Fowler claims to have seen 13 folders in the database that contain more than 100 million records with SSID (service set identifier), commonly known as your Wi-Fi network name. Furthermore, these leaked records also contain millions of passwords, IP addresses, device ID numbers, and email addresses."

If that's true then the app people are using is sending that data back to Mars Hydro. It says on the Google Play Store that no data is collected. If true then how did they get it and why are they collecting it? Sounds like what you do is routed through their servers. I sure wouldn't install that app on my phone if it's collecting that data and sending it to a database. Just another reason I don't need any fancy fan I can control from my phone.

Is it because of their data scandal that they are not present here anymore? Or just a coincidence?

Maybe we will never know...

Anyway i'm still good with the 100w LED and grow-tent after 2 1/2 years, plants are doing great in veg and flower. :) Their products were pretty good for the price, bad for them leaving the field here for other manufacturers... 🤷‍♂️

Regardless of how good the product or pricing may be, I would never purchase anything from a company that did what they did. They knowingly collected sensitive user data without their knowledge. Some of that data can be used to access peoples networking equipment and used as part of a botnet or other nefarious things including accessing user data and installing spyware if you install and use the app.

I downloaded the apk file of their app. When I get the time I might use Ghidra to dig around and see what's going on inside that app.

I may be mistaken, but it appears that we are at a point where data is currency. It looks to me like
one is being offered an exchange of convenience in exchange for data. I get by just fine with out
the little app, and it is one less thing to worry about going wrong.
I am not sure how one would go about finding out who is selling what to whom, it appears to have become
a standard thing to do, and I don't known how one would even be able to know when it is being done.

For me i didn't know what they did... but i never used their app and stuff. My grow is complete offline. Only showing some pics here of my 100w and Window Grow and it's partly legal where i live so i'm not worried at all.

Also i don't use social media sites/apps except for IC Mag Forum... no Meta(Facebook, Instagram and not even Whatsapp) and no X(aka Twitter).
