i dont believe you people i trying to get him a tobbaco addiction, smoking is incredibly bad for you and even if u dont inhale it can lead to mouth cancer, yellowing of teeth etc.

the only reason i smoke bud is because it actualy does something so its worth the health risks...

i say go for the tea and coffey thing or just stick to smoking mj on the weekends.

I can no longer smoke due to personal decisions, i want to see what happens to my grades when I don't smoke for at least a year as a graduate student. However, a long time ago I realized it was not wholely the pot that I enjoyed. I enjoyed breaking it up, smelling it, maybe tasting a little bit if it was dank, cleaning the bowl, sitting down with good people, and letting euphoria set in. the school I am at has lots of good people and a very condusive environment to this type of social ritualistic behavior. I am wondering what my alternatives are to marijuana, I have never tried huka's but to my understanding they just taste good, I would really like to have the relaxation and the depressant.
Thanks guys, I love this community

I'm having a hard time understanding this thread. There is really no substitute for the feeling yopu get from herb, IMO. I think it would be a bad idea to start smoking tobacco though.....ew, talk about picking up an unhealthy and very undesirable habit.

Why not limit your smoking to weekends, or when you are all caught up on your school work? Just cut back, then when you do it to enjoy herb....you will really enjoy it.

I couldnt agree more with everything you said...

There is no nor will there ever be a substiute for the unique properties of the herb, we still dont fully understand, (we never will) what happens through what chemicles to our minds and bodies and why.

It is a wonderful gift, just the way it is.

I really don't have the ordinary sense of weekends at school. If I want to reach my full potential I will need to be working basically anytime I can stand to sit down and think about the subject matter. However, there is a diminishing marginal return when all you do is work all the time, all work and no play makes jack a dull boy. I will continue to fulfill my urges for freedom with my hobbies and ritualistic behavior, but I am beginning to understand that it is truly books that can set you free so I will be trying hard to focus on the material I have dedicated myself too. I was actually reading today that kissa yojo ki the first japanese zen buddhist believed that tea was the key to health and long life. Although I believe they drank only green tea for meditative stimulation it is still encouraging to follow the beliefs of such an enlightened person. I am trying my best to pick up healthy habits and hobbies, however I don't doubt that I will at least give the damiana a try. I find that I have a hard time just smoking on the weekends, it may start that way but eventually I smoke a big ol' blunt and then it takes more and more each time and in about 3 months I am smoking at least every other day. I consider this part of my life the years that allow me to do what I want when I'm in my 30's and I definitely plan on indulging in herb once the time is right. I feel that I am partly the person I am today because I used marijuana and I also feel it gave me a much stronger sense of attachment to nature, however, lately it only seemed to be hindering my personal relationships and education so until I am mature and focused enough to use it responsibly I will have to find something else that can become a suitable substitute. I really appreciate all the great advice and differing opinions and ideas.
peace

Has anyone here tried damiana. I am interested in the effects and wether I need to mix it with other herbs for a desirable effect. Some may think this is counter-intuitive to my goal but from reports it seems that the high is short lived but still relaxing and euphoric; just what I'm looking for and I still get to use my bubbler

Yeah try it out. Hey I think its good your doing what your doing. You seem to be pretty self-directed. Never tried damiana smoked, but did try it in a tea. LIke I said check it out on erowid, look for user reports...or whatever its called. People go on there and do "trip" reports, and describe their experiences with different drugs.

I did check out erowid and it was very helpful. A bit overwhelming on the first go around but it will be fun to puruse in the future.

I can't believe no one has suggested ALCOHOL!

Get some tall frosty ones going, or maybe some liquor....and after a few of those I'll betcha anything you'll be itching for some weed.

oh alcahol is definitely already my weekend filler. I like a good new glarus, lake superior kayak kolsch or summit epa and ipa oh yeah and heffeweizen shit I just love anything from summit and new glarus

as for as hookah i would say give it a try. I got into hookah smoking in college and its a lot cleaner and better than cigarette smoking. For the most part it doesnt taste like you're smoking tobacco if you ever do at all. The shisha is sticky like sap and most hookah's filter amazingly. Most people who dont like smoking or weed enjoy hookah. Its defintely a good way to interact with a group of people and get the whole ritual as well as something you can enjoy by yourself. Also if you enjoy cleaning and what not there are lots of parts that can be cleaned and taken apart on a hookah. I suggest hookahshisha.com, excellent selection and price.

I'm surprised no one has mention the sacred herb salvia divinorum. It provides the relaxation and enlightenment one can expect from an entheogen, and the experience lasts less than a half hour. as of now its legal, however the powers that be may change that.

Uh, isn't Salvia (for those it actually works for) supposed to be considered powerful & not to fuck around with?

Didn't do squat for me, but some folks seem to have profound & sometimes disturbing experiances with it. Even though I got nada from it, I still wouldn't recommend it to anyone as a pot substitute.

it's a good idea not to fuck around with any mind altering substance. responsible use is vital for the legalization movement.

some psychonauts I know will not try salvia anymore , it opens doors in their mind they felt were better left closed. If you aren't ready to explore the depths of human consciousness, please refrain from any psychedelic

Smoking a hookah is what got me back into smoking cigs after quitting. Then I had to quit allllll over again.

But if you have no problem with smoking tobacco wether it be from a hookah or a cigarette,m I say give it a shot. You can definately mix your hookah tobacco with some relaxing herbs as well. Catnip is one of them, google for some others. I liked to put apple shisha mixed with spearmint or peppermint in my hookah bowls.
