Marijuana substitution

I can no longer smoke due to personal decisions, i want to see what happens to my grades when I don't smoke for at least a year as a graduate student. However, a long time ago I realized it was not wholely the pot that I enjoyed. I enjoyed breaking it up, smelling it, maybe tasting a little bit if it was dank, cleaning the bowl, sitting down with good people, and letting euphoria set in. the school I am at has lots of good people and a very condusive environment to this type of social ritualistic behavior. I am wondering what my alternatives are to marijuana, I have never tried huka's but to my understanding they just taste good, I would really like to have the relaxation and the depressant.
Thanks guys, I love this community

I have almost never drank coffee, however I recently saw a show describing that there are two types of beans. Basically the show said there are good (espresso) and bad (instant coffee) beans, yet I don't know which would suit the amateur connoisseur. In the past I have just had regular coffee (probably the bad bean kind) with sugar and cream. However I am looking for something that I can get the same kind of ritual sensation from. I think I'm probably gonna come up with a list of like 6 or 7 things and try them all for a while to see which one replaces weed best. i just need something that can always put a smile on my face and turn and bad day into a good day just as weed can. I have a buddy who makes his own mushroom honey and puts a teaspoon ( a 1/2 cup being a full dose) on his gums whenever he wants to feel nice and floaty, I just don't think that's feasible for me, however it does not seem to affect his day to day except for that big grin he wears :)

yeah I like the whole rolling and smoking also so I started rolling and smoking tabacco but then I quit because that's just sick.

I like to smoke nice cigars once in a while.

instant coffee sucks... I used to drink gallons of it when studying, probably the reason I hate coffee now.

what does hookah tobacco do though. Is it like smoking a cigarette? Or can different one's do different things. Are there herbs besides tobacco or pot that can be smoked with a desirable effect. I'll check out the website for sure, thanx guys

maybe you could make your own herbal tea blends...there are thousands of herbs out there that have all kinds of "supposed" physical and mental health benefits..as I'm sure your aware

any mental affect, from my experience seems to be exceptionally mild compared to MJ.

I dont like coffee, dont care for the taste, and I have enough natural adrenaline in my system all the time, but when I quit drinkin Liquor I started drinkin' tea (sounds lame ...I know) but it's kind of the ritual thing you were talking about.

you can order bulk herbs on line and get them locally to brew all kinds of different concoctions.

...just a thought

hooka tobacco is flavored, but not like "flavored" blunts or cigarettes or anything...

it is long strands of moist tobacco mixed with some honey and flavored oils (blueberry, mango, peach, honey, vanilla, etc etc) so it is really gooey and sticky to handle. You put it in the bowl at the top of the hooka but instead of lighting it with a lighter (like weed or a cigarrette) you cover the bowl with foil. Then you poke a hole through the middle of the foil and place a lit coal on top of this small hole. So no flame actually every touchs the shisha.

The coal just heats up the tobacco/oil mix a couple hundred degrees and creates a really really smooth (but still thick) smoke. It tastes great (literally, you taste fruit or whatever the particular flavor is) and you can mix and match different shishas in the same bowl. My personal favorite is 70% mango/30% honey combination...

you should really check it out.

it does NOT get you high though

Just bought some interesting tea concoctions from mountain rose herbs an all organic tea supplier, I'm excited to try something new that I have never really delved into.

Damiana supposedly gives you some of the body high characteristics from marijuana. You can smoke that, and its legal. Check it out on erowid.com.

That is just something I heard though...

Another intersting ritual you could get into would be Yerba Mate. It is relaxing but at the same time energizing. You have to prepare the gourd full of the leaves, and drink it out of a straw. It actually takes awhile to make a perfect gourd...as certain things need to be in place. You usually share the gourd with people, and one person pours the water... its a whole ritual.

neways, i gotta get to bed, but i'm sure there are other ideas.

umm, coffee can be an expensive habit. due to my obsession I now own a high end espresso machine(about 2k$) a mazzer grinder (~500$), various french presses, a Cona vacuum brewer(~200$), a technivorm drip machine(~200$) and a diedrich sample roaster(~$4k) and up to this point my green bean purchases have been about 600$. So umm...yeah pricy hobby to say the least. On the bright side I brew up the best coffee I've ever tasted, beats everything I've ever tasted elsewhere and I've been to many barista competitions. So is it worth it, yes in my book. I even did a little home order roasted coffee business for a bit, selling to most of the local resturants just to fray some of the expense.

Hookah's are fun, but a social activity. Frankly nothing replaces MJ, nothing, its unique properties simply cannot be replicated.

I recommend pipe smoking, you don't inhale, it's fairly cheap to get into( a couple corn cobs, bit of baccy, a pipe tool and a pack of cleaners will set you back maybe 20$) Just start with good tobacco or you'll hate it. Pipes take a while to develop a proper smoking method and are a very ritualistic behavior, it is what I do when I want to relax. a bowl of tobacco will last me ~1hr and cost maybe 25cents for really really good tobacco. I do recommend going to a tobacconist, someone who sells pipes and smokes them, they'll show you how to properly pack a bowl and give you the info you need to start.

Some blends I would recommend to a noobie would be Peterson Sunset Breeze, Peterson University flake, MacBaren Navy flake(has a bit of nicotine in it so beware a heavy buzz but it tastes great!) The first two are cased, that is they have an added flavoring, just remember small puffs and don't puff too fast or the baccy will heat up too much and your mouth will pay for it. Stay away from brands like Captain Black and Prince Albert(IE if you can get it in a drugstore it's probably shite)

It's a rewarding hobby that I very much enjoy, also no one complains about good pipe tobacco, it smells good! lots of people will tell you it reminds them of thier grandfather! It will satisfy the ritualistic behavior that you crave and if you set aside a bit of time to smoke then it gives you time and space to relax.

any q's about coffee or tobacco(cigs/pipes/cigars,anything about tobacco really) feel free to PM me I'm always willing to share.
