"Marijuana gardens are a terrorist threat"

Drug Czar Gives Warning

ONDCP California -- The nation's top anti-drug official said people need to overcome their "reefer blindness" and see that illicit marijuana gardens are a terrorist threat to the public's health and safety, as well as to the environment.

John P. Walters, President Bush's drug czar, said the people who plant and tend the gardens are terrorists who wouldn't hesitate to help other terrorists get into the country with the aim of causing mass casualties. Walters made the comments at a Thursday press conference that provided an update on the "Operation Alesia" marijuana-eradication effort.

"Don't buy drugs. They fund violence and terror," he said.

After touring gardens raided this week in Shasta County, Walters said the officers who are destroying the gardens are performing hard, dangerous work in rough terrain. He said growers have been known to have weapons, including assault rifles.

"These people are armed; they're dangerous," he said. He called them "violent criminal terrorists."

Walters, whose official title is director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, said too many people write off marijuana as harmless. "We have kind of a reefer blindness,' " he said.

No arrests have been made so far in the four days of raids, the opening leg of what Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko has promised will be at least two straight weeks of daily raids.

He said suspects have been hard to find because their familiarity with their terrain makes it easy for them to flee quickly.

Although crews doing the raids are using Black Hawk and other helicopters to drop in on some of the gardens, Bosenko said they don't want to give the growers any warning of a raid.

"We try to move in under stealth," he said.

As of Thursday morning, Operation Alesia raids had resulted in the yanking of 68,237 young marijuana plants from public lands in Shasta County. Raids already have been conducted in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, as well as on land managed by the U.S. Forest Service north of Lake Shasta and other public land near Manton.

The operation is being led by the sheriff's office and has involved 17 agencies, including the California National Guard and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. It's believed to be the largest campaign of its kind in the state, Bosenko said.

The operation is named after the last major battle between the Roman Empire and the Gauls in 52 B.C. That battle was won by the Romans.

With the blitz of marijuana gardens around Shasta County, Bosenko said officials hope to not only get rid of the pot, but also win back the land for the public that owns it.

"These organizations are destroying our lands and wildlife," he said.

Bernie Weingardt, regional forester for the Forest Service's Pacific Southwest Region, said the 28,000 acres believed to house illegal marijuana grows on national forest land throughout the state would cost more than $300 million to revive.

"These lands must be cleaned and restored," he said.

His estimate is based on a National Park Service study that found it costs $11,000 per acre to pull the plants, clear irrigation systems, reshape any terracing and replant native vegetation, said Mike Odle, Forest Service spokesman.

While Walters didn't give specific goals for Operation Alesia, he said anti-drug agencies aim to cripple the organized crime groups that he said are behind the marijuana cultivation.

"This business we intend to put into recession, depression and put its leaders into jail," Walters said.

Note: Federal official calls marijuana growers dangerous terrorists.

some cannabis farms are used for "cash crops" by orginized crime orginazations.
so they can fund there cocain, heroin, meth rings.
they know they(organized crime) can make quick money through cannabis to fund latter rings.
most of these huge busts in national parks on the west coast are manned by mexi's,columbians..well south of the border crime rings.
so they can make a quick buck and fuel there meth projects.
also look at how many high tech indoor grows out west have been busted.run buy asians.whats up with that.?
hey im not one to see the dea bust grows ,but when it comes to have a crop harvested and have the profits be turn around and put into the meth market..well its just not right.
sucks to see the plant getting eraticaded.but in the long run it may be a good thing.

im a medical grower/user for myself.i could make a few bucks if i wanted too but choose not to.ya get that HD.
times have changed...in the 60's,70's,80's the biker groups(angels, banditos, outlaws, pagans) ran everything.run huge cannabis farms to fuel the meth, coke, heroin market they supplied.
they were shutdown by the feds.
and now foriegners have taken their place.
i dont dont agree with the erratication of the cannabis plant, but when the profits are used to supply money to the criminals hidden agenda,i do.

unfortunately the dea uses this to descriminate against every cannbis user.there is a fine line.

2. (often initial capital letter) the former emperor of Russia.
3. an autocratic ruler or leader.
4. any person exercising great authority or power in a particular field: a czar of industry.

so now we are terrorists, would we be al-canna? it amazes me how ignorant and audacious this administration truly is, now applying the word terrorist to anything they frown upon its almost a return to mccarthyism and use of the term communist. just look at the statements of the last surgeon general of the usa, who decried the administration for out and out censoring of his opinions and findings to coincide with shrubs beliefs, he will probably be branded terrorist also for saying we should do embryonic stem cell research and that we should teach our children about safe sex not being abstinance but condom use. i for one would love to hear the former surgeon generals opinion of medical marijuana, to see if that also was stifled by the powers that be. just my :2cents:

maybe if your money gets to drug cartels. but if it's some local stoner growing pounds and pounds to pay off his new car and mortgage, i don't see how that's terrorism.

I'm not even going to bother laying into the obvious inaccuracies in what he's saying - it doesn't warrant a serious read it's so pathetic.

So far the US war on drugs has created more war and more drugs and more terrorists that any other cause. They continue to persue a failed policy and refuse to admit defeat. And when they want you to spy on your neighbours - they say it's because they're terrorists!! FFS.

This is more surreal than a family guy episode.

This guy needs to be arrested and put in a mexican prison cell for the rest of his life. Scaremongering idiot with power - Bush's drug monkey.

God Damnit - This World Needs A Hero!

its certainly a trend this "War on......". Reagan I think was the one who started it all.. but I suspect there was an earlier "War on...." education or something. As with all these Wars they only make matters worse because thats what they are supposed to do. Its classic double think. People are told we are fighting the "War on...." and they go "hey thats a good thing right?" and decide yeah... I can ignore it now... cause its "War on" and meanwhile the govt does the opposite and entrenches the problem even more...

The thing about drugs in the US is that its a business, owned and operated through which all drugs flow into the country. Now many an entrepeneur is hearing there is money to be made in drugs so they set up an import BUT doing your own thing and not going through official "War on " channels gets you some problems

see the people running the import channels need a cut, nothing gets in without a cut and see you the entrepeneur either gotta pay a cut or you get handed up to the LEO depending on the mood of the import channel dood or his minions.

So you see the reports of busts are not the hardworking ingenuity and dedication of the LEO. Its just a go it alone-r trying to make some piles of cash doing an unsanctioned import. Not on, threat to the business. So you take out the competition.

The other thing is that the guys down south or out in the mid east don't deal with anyone else. In the mid east its the turks who run the channel fed out of UN sanctioned opium fields and the south its the rebels feeding snort up into the orange and whites. They only deal with the authorised channel BUT they do take inquiries and will pass information along.

The whole thing is a win win. The authorised channel dood gets K+ with the LEO for getting them some collar and the dood gets all this free shit he can move at 100% profit.

who's the dood? probably someone who dodged or sumit like that....

oh and the "War on....." means they can buy bigger badder guns and be meaner and harder overseerers on peeps... and the peeps foot the bill for now until they overthrow and kick the overseerers out.

The one Irony of it all is that he is infact 100% correct but only in terms of H and coke as that is their product and it is run by the terroists... assuming you have realised who the real terrosits are by now...

I knew it was a mistake for us to use the term "Guerrilla Growers", see cos once George worked out that it was nothing to do with either planting monkeys or training primates to do the gardening of course we had to be terrrorists.
And fuck me we've even got AK 47.
