Marijuana convention a bust

I was only there on the last day but it seemed well run. Overall I think it was a great first attempt at organizing a show like this here in toronto and it was great that the cops stayed away and let us smoke in peace. So congrats to all involved and a big thanks to Dr.Dog for putting up with me all day.

This is false Bullrider was not in the competition...

I was at the awards last night and I think Remo (urban grower) won 1st for his Bubba Kush in the Private Breeder Cup. Marco is not particularity good at communication and he was the emcee so, that is my impression of events...

I had a great time on Friday, got to see all sort of new people and all sorts of old people. Smoked a shit load of Remo's Bubba, and Mark's Budder. So, yummy, and absurdly potent.

The lounge needed more couches, chairs, and that issue was never fixed. It was 14 volcanos, the Roor vape, Herbalaire etc, and the verdamper (the finest vaporizer ever). We did oil vaping in the corner, too...

I got to buy seeds, and sample all sorts of interesting bud including strains that weren't allowed in the cup due to various bullshit. Including Nuken, from CCK, its rocking and done in 45 days!!! Also a huge fan of the Jas Bud, nice fast-finishing, and long lasting sativa.

At the end of the show I got some really nice deals on the left over merchandise.

At the awards ceremony, Simon from Serious was accepting a 3rd palace for the Seed cup, and mentioned he had nothing to do with the entry except donating seeds, he mentioned the grower then dissed him by saying when he saw the bud he didn't expect to win anything, and was surprised by the award. LOL LOL LOL

There was lots of divisive bullshit that seemed to occur between Marco and WhyProhibition. They were banned from the show, then reinstated, then banned again, then reinstated -- and very rudely treated, in front of attendees and exhibitors at the show. Not very professional. Eventually on the final day they were allowed back into the event. It was like the show organizer had PMS.

Deadline for entries was June 14, 2010 due to the amount of time needed to package up all the entries. I was asked about entering those 2 strains 2 days before the expo was to start. I also had a private grower expecting me to accept 2 entries the day before the expo.

Now Why Prohibition DIDN'T have permission to promote their organization in another organizations booth. It's on the contract which is STANDARD in the show industry. They were given a FREE BOOTH to promote their organization on Saturday afternoon when I found out that ENCOD rep never made it past Canada Customs so I put them in the ENCOD booth.

Yup!

Also I can't believe I forgot the controversy, about the VIP and the boat cruise. In a bonehead move, the cruise was held on two boats. One of which was not that nice, and the other was much worse. There was essentially a two-tiered boat system, at the same dock. All the superstars and exhibitors and Marco on the nicer boat and the paying VIP's and others that couldn't get get on the "A" boat, somehow, were left on the "Short Boat" as I am now calling it!

The Short Boat, was a smelly tin can, the floor of the top deck, was on a crazy 20 degree slope, it wasn't the water, it was the boat!

There was no booze on the cruise, even though the advertising for the cruise and the invitation mentioned a cash-bar. People were really bummed. There was also an issue where the Captain told people they could only smoke on the outer edges of the boat, on the main deck. This was reversed, only after many people left in disgust.

Yea that was truely a disappointment. We had originally booked 1 large boat to handle everyone but thanks to the folks at the Alcohol & Gaming Commission that boat lost it opperation licence for 1 month due to issues the previous year. The owner of the cruise company then gave us 2 of his other boats and alcohol was supposed to be served and smoking was supposed to be allowed. I had NO CONTROL over this and I only knew about the NO ALCOHOL at the LAST MINUTE. Smoking was allowed on both boats during the cruise. Next year will be much better.

I sure hope that by the time our event takes place next year that the Human Rights cases are settled

So why put paying VIP's on the crappy boat? That seemed like a really classless move...

I never saw the boat until I was at the docks. I wasn't aware that it was a shabby boat. If you go to the cruise company web site you couldn't tell either. The other boat had close to 200 people and it was FULL yet they state that it holds 280.

Nobody had any complaints about the food that was served from what I have heard and it was the SAME menu on BOTH boats.

Overall I thought the expo was good. The peripheral events need some work next year. If you look at the expo map, there is allot of storage area. This area should have been used for speakers, bands, documentaries, fashion shows, etc. If this were the case, I think many more people would have attended them.

The boat: Luckily someone got "sick" on the Short Boat and I was able to get off of the boat early. It would have been nice to have at least one beer with dinner. The dinner was good and the desserts and coffee were excellent!

The Hawaiian Punch (C) was excellent IMO but I was looking forward to at least one haze dominant strain.

The event will be much bigger next year

you have to learn how to walk before you can run.....

I have seen a prelayout for next year, looks to be 3 times the size...Overall a couple small hiccups (ala the boat, not much you can do about these things)

I would even do without a boat cruise, or make it shorther. i would have preferred to have a large gathering at one of the cities parks, the weather was outstanding all weekend. Would have been nice to sit under clear skiies, on a patch of grass. I think an outdoor concert would be kind of cool

Can't wait for the next expo

Can't wait for the next expo

I don’t think the Expo was a bust at all. Marco you did an excellent job getting this event together and pulling it off with no major problems. I didn’t see any Police at the Expo, not even patrolling the sidewalks outside which was really cool. No anti drug and Marijuana protesters, we were left alone.

I had a VIP pass and had a great time and managed to make it out to all three days but for Friday and Saturday I was late getting into Toronto and didn’t get there until later in the evening. I did make it out for the last four hours of the Expo on Sunday.

The VIP package gave me a change to checkout all of the events festivities if I wanted. Friday night the Howard Dover ExtravaGanja comedy show had a couple of decent comics. I still laugh a bit when I think about the comic that used his thumb or finger to represent his dick while doing that goofy walk.

The food on the boat was really good and you could choose from everything that was available. I went back twice for more food but I had the munchies so that that was a real plus. The non-alcoholic drinks were also all free and included with your VIP pass. I left a joint in the tips jar for the servers because I would imagine they didn’t get as many tips as from alcohol sales.

Thank you to that guy who I’m sorry I forgotten your name but the hash you shared with me was killer stuff. Tasted good and clean and just when I thought I couldn’t get much higher. Zing second hit of that hash and I’m really, really f’ing high. That was very cool, kind and generous of you.

I was really hoping and looking forward to meeting Simon from Serious Seeds because I’ve been impressed and interested in getting their genuine stuff especially Kali Mist. I got to meet and talk to Simon and he was a really nice guy and so was the guy working with him, both were really nice and friendly. I asked a lot of questions and they answered them all for me. Not too often you get to talk to the breeders in person about theirs and other’s products.

Wish I could have seen more, I missed all of the hemp fashion shows and most of the documentaries because of work and prior commitments. I’m also not licensed to use Cannabis medicinally so I couldn’t check out the Vapor Lounge and try all of the different vaporizers.

All in all I’m definitely going to try and get another VIP pass at the next one. Thank you Marco, I had a great weekend and awesome time.

What was his booth # ? I don't remember anyone that had that listed as their product. All vendors had to list EVERYTHING that was going to be part of their booth.

I am disabled, with time on my hands.

But it still seemed like a big waste of time for me to go.
I expected it to be a flop, since there is only like 2000 card holders in Canada.

I, like most, should have a card but don't.
Therefore my hypothesis = flop.

Glad to hear some had a good time there.
