Lots more rain, with even more to come.
Maybe ... 8" = 200 mm plus yesterday and today.
Probably the same amount to come later today and next day or two.

Torrential rain and flash flood warnings are out.

Like a late rainy season catch up for the missed past months' rain.

Little wind, though wish I could site visit to check up on the girls.

Lovely plants Maria! Great to see those sativas growing so tall.
Thank you, @El Timbo for your kind words.
They're certainly much bigger than the last round, haha, little bud sticks.
I was just appreciating your terrace grow thread.
I really love your Thai Panama (or is it Panama Thai?), with the two phenos!
We both have sativas on the terrace/balcony!

I have 5 Panama x Thai and 1 Thai x Panama - I don't like them to grow as tall as yours though!
Nice, both sides of the cross! Making any seeds with them?

Mine ... well, the idea was that with my subtropical light hours, max of 13.5/10.5 at mid summer, they would just grow a bit and then go straight into flowering, over the summer to maybe early autumn.

But ... they're sativa girls, and now I know that their light hours trigger is at about 13/11 or slightly less for the SSSTN at 12.75/11.25. So, they just kept growing and growing and growing... hahahahaaa! And I had to put them into bigger pots and now have to deal with keeping them from flopping over!

Thought I'd have a couple of 1m to 1.5m flowering girls, but the SSSTN and tall Grail x ThaiFrican are well over 2m tall, more like 2.3m or so.

If I can keep them happy (or at least not too unhappy) for the next two months or more, at least I may have a nice stash of top shelf ganja.

Spring-Summer Grow -- Maria's Haze Heaven Hacienda!

Day 186: 135V + 51F

Around 300 mm = 12" of rain last few days.
Probably some more to come.
Quite windy at times, too.
Was concerned that the weight of the water and wind would create problems.

Took a big ball of thick hemp twine / light rope with me.
Planned to at least set up a line in front of them to stop them falling south.

Family pic

When I arrived on site, this is what I saw:

PXL_20240923_025101803.jpg

Left: SSSTN girls
-- all standing tall and strong, no problem at all
Mid: Grail x ThaiFrican girls and L'n'L Jones girl
-- the main stem of big GrailxThaiFrican down 90 degrees, leaning on the medium pheno
Right: Grail girl
-- several of her bigger colas down 90 degrees

Lucky I got here in time.
Some of those branches are also broken...

I'll show a pic at the end of the solution situation.
The pics below are a combination of when they were down and after they were supported.

Re-vegged Super Silver Sour Thai Neville ('Sticky' pheno)

PXL_20240923_025453447.jpg

Pretty sure this girl above is 'sticky'.
These colas are just amazing, they are just nearing the end of the stretch though.

You can see that Fluffy is a little more delicate.
There are several better colas of her I should have shown you.
The more heavily branching, fine delicate stems, that led to her rounded buds.

Grail (fast pheno) x ThaiFrican (medium pheno)

Looks like I didn't get any shots of the medium girl.
She's doing well.
Her taller sister was leaning on her a little, but I remedied that.
Good color, nice green, flowering still developing nicely.
Some aromas starting with her.

Grail (fast pheno) x ThaiFrican (taller pheno)

PXL_20240923_025438244.jpg

Rare chance to get close to this main cola, 2.3 m tall!
The rest of the now bent over plant is a mass of flower:

PXL_20240923_025441776.jpg

Lush!
Some aromas starting to show for this girl now, too.

Two branches that broke off this tall girl.
One was a very nice big lower branch.
The other a smaller lower branch.
Pity, but sh!t happens.
There's a little rip on the main stem from the big branch -- hope it heals up!

PXL_20240923_030403872.jpg

That could have been a potential oz or two.
Poor little girl.
Hope she recovers soon!

One Lemon 'n' Lime Jones

I have a photo.
But I don't want to show you.
It's not pretty...

That wet period combined with her already poor state...

Let's just say I cut out the nasty stuff and put the rest to dry.
These denser more 'hybrid' types not so ideal for here.
Problem started when the bugs began nesting in her thick flowers.

Seven SSSTN x ThaiFrican seedlings

All this there.
All female! Wow, seven out of seven! Odds are 0.7% !
Various phenos, a lot of variation.
Not surprising given both parents are F1 crosses already...
Two F1 cross combined is an absolute mix of possibilities!
I like the idea of these possibilities, though, don't get me wrong.

Re-vegged Grail project (NvHz x Mullumbimby Madness F2) (NLD pheno)

PXL_20240923_025428172.jpg

Laying down, curling up to the sun, but otherwise looking great!
Stretch almost done here I think.
She is back up straight now, and looking very good on the whole.

Supporting ropes

I moved the plants back from the edge a few days ago.
Gets them out of the wind, if the wind comes from certain angles.
Prevents them falling right off the balcony if they fall south.
But it blocks a fair bit of morning and evening sunlight.

The stakes in the pots just don't work well.
The pots are too small / shallow, so the stakes can't go deep.
The plants then just pull the stakes right over.

So tied that light rope across the pillars near the front (south) of the balcony.
Move the plants up close to them, so the rope pushes them upright.
I also put a separate rope on the taller Grail x ThaiFrican, tied to the pillar on the right.
It gives her extra support, and keeps her from leaning on her shorter sister.

The taller Grail x ThaiFrican and Grail NLD pheno need this support most of all.
The medium Grail x ThaiFrican would benefit, but she's doing okay, not so tall.
The two SSSTN girls just don't seem to need it, they are very tall upright plants.
But that may change once their flowers put on weight and size, so good precaution anyway.

PXL_20240923_030643702.jpg

Doesn't that look soooooo much better?!
Cut / broken branches on the ground, next to the big twine / rope ball.

Bats!

The bat cave is very wet, muddy.
The bat guano is washing into the mud, too.
It feels like 10000% humidity in there, believe me!
Bats seem okay about things, though.

Happy growing, my friends.
Stay safe!

Peace and Love,

More very big very bad weather coming in early next week.
Thinking about how to deal with it.
These girls are getting too tall now to bring inside off the balcony.
And tying them up only works so much for this kind of weather.
Hmmmm.... situation not looking good.
Will try to visit tomorrow and see what I can do.

Seems like theres some heavy weather all around the globe at the moment. I really hope that all goes well for you and other outdoor growers and the weather gets better. The forecast here in Finland for tonight is 2-5mm of rain and 22m/s wind gusts. Thats a shitload of bad weather and Im not sure if I can even go to the nearest market to score some munchies. 😅

Wow Maria
looks like you're growing yourself some beautiful huge sativas 👍🏼

Best of luck and 🤞🏼for the stormy rainy weather coming!

Bats seem okay about things, though.
That's always good 😁

Im not sure if I can even go to the nearest market to score some munchies.
That don't sound good to me.
My heartfelt sympathy for you bro!

A wild thought: would it help to bend down the larger ladies, like tie the top down a little?

Less likely to get wind damage maybe?

Thanks for your kind wishes.
I'd imagine in Finland your temps are about 15C-20C lower than here.
Your outdoor must be well finished already!
That's some strong wind.
You need superior munchy stock preparation techniques, haha!

They're looking fabulous today, mid flower glory!

Just did some prep on site.
One of my issues is that there are very few things I can tie to.
Details in my update, to follow...

Spring-Summer Grow -- Maria's Haze Heaven Hacienda!

Day 192: 135V + 57F

After that recent heavy rain, cloudy, cooler (25C-30C daily low-high), with touches of rain.
Another typhoon coming soon.
My present prep was mainly more ropes on either side, holding them in place.
And holding the pots down with those wooden pallets.

I used the light hemp rope to do some further tying.
I put up another line of rope in front (south), but different height, threaded through the stems and branches.
And another line of rope in back (north), supporting them from that side.
These ropes support the whole plant, front and back.
There are a couple of medium colas outside the ropes, so the plants are bunched up too much.
They also have room to move sideways (east-west), but also support each other in this direction.
The main tops themselves have been remarkable resistant to the wind, especially the SSSTN.

In general, the main problem with the wind has been at the ground level for main stem.
The wooden pallets at there at the base on the pots, holding them down and steady.

I don't think the whole plant can fall down like this.
Maybe a branch or two may be lost, hope not, but that's no huge deal.

You may ask why I didn't put them inside like I did a few months ago.
I am afraid I would damage them already moving them inside and back out.
They are heavy in their pots, and the Grail x ThaiFricans and Grail girl can't be moved by themselves now.
Also, the roof inside is too low for almost all of them, they'd get knocked going in and out.

So I am treating them like big girls, feeling confident with this support they won't have too many problems.
Also can really test and see what happens to flowering plants in this upcoming weather.

I also did a feeding today.
The Grail x ThaiFricans have lost almost all their fans, as has the Grail girl.
The SSSTN ladies still have a fair few fans on them.
But I think this is fairly natural for sativas like this, and they don't appear to be suffering (much) at all.
Their color is still really good, and flowering speaks for itself, right?
Still, we have a month or two (or more?) to go.
I gave them a bit of the 3-5-5 organic pellets, a bit more Osmocote, some dolomite lime (for Ca + Mg), and some kelp powder.
This may be enough until the harvest, we'll have to wait and see, but should be enough for the Grail x ThaiFrican girls, if not the Grail and SSSTN.
Grail x ThaiFricans will be next down, then the Grail, with the SSSTN last.

Lastly: that Lemon 'n' Lime Jones bud did not make it.
The bug damage inside already, plus that rain and rot, we just too much.
A pity, for sure.
Not hybrid territory around here, we're built for sativas, thank you.

Happy growing, my friends.
Stay safe!

Peace and Love,
~MJS
