I was thinking of using biodegradable pots for my future autoflowering seedlings. What do you think?
It depends on what they are made of. I've tried a few different ones. Some are hard for the roots to pass through. Cocco or thin peat ones have worked best for me. The ones with slits on the side are best.
Bottom watering and keeping the cups wet help the roots pass through.
I've also had success with these transplant bags.

I'm also a big fan of ACE sativas. I've been using their material as a basis for many things for years, and most of the time, the results are pleasing.
Ace is the place. They have and continue to produce great genetics. :respect: to the Ace team for all the hard work put in over the years.

I used them last year over winter for some chillies I was growing, ended up needing to re pot and get rid of them as they started to grow mould on the outside.

Could have been my environment but thought to give you a heads-up.
Thanks for your input. What was the minimum temperature of the place where you used them please? How long did you leave them in these pots? Mine would be for 2 or 3 weeks maximum, in spring and summer

@Artistick Seeds, I tried various methods last year for transplanting Autoflowers. The homemade transplant pots below worked well if you don't mind taking the time to make them. They can be reused. Just cut 3 slits in the sides of a cup or pot about 25mm/1 inch wide. Keep that inside another cup until the roots are visible, and then bury the whole cup when transplanting.

Another cheap, easy method is to use pellets like these. It is probably best to transplant autos early anyway, by about 10 days or so, before the first true leaves develop.

Thanks for the tip. I like the technic of the cup, but I don't like plastic in my soil... But pellets sounds great. They are made of coco or peat?

I have never had any success with the pellets or degradable pots. IME, they both slowed the plants down more than even a harsh transplanting would.
Folded newspaper pots work better and they are free if you have an old paper.

I have also had great success with those thin white transplant pots. The roots just pass through them so easily 🌞

I have to give props to your homemade red plastic cup transplanters. Great innovation, and your auto flower work is truly inspiring my friend 🤩

Well, it's time for another update. I did one more generation of breeding this winter.
I started 30 F3 Autoflowers- the same seed lines I tested outdoors and picked these 10 to reverse. Once they were further into the process, I narrowed it down to my favourites.

Couple weeks later

Started 82 fem seeds from the 8 non-auto mothers. 3 of the mother lines #2,#4, and #6 produced autos, and 12 were kept.

10 days old

25 days, most were culled

12 Autoflowers that were kept: 6 were transplanted into 1 gal pots and 6 into 2 gal pots.
