Malawi Style Cob Curing.

Everyone will get slightly different end products because as you stated above ambient temps vary.
It is up to the individual to experiment and get unique cures thats the beauty of it.
It would be good one day to all get together for a show and tell. I know I would be up for it.
If wasn't for the logistics of bringing samples we could get it going anytime.
Hopefully in the near future we can all meet for a cob cup wouldn't that be a gas.
A cob cruise on international waters? 🫶

This is Dorothy she's a modern balanced hybrid known for outstanding terps. Strain is called The Great by Twenty20 Mendocino.

Others have said that indica can be too strong with this method.
I figured I was doing all the other experiments I might as well.
Hopefully being 50-50 will help

She was quite a bit more moist back on November 1st

That brings me to the halfway point in checking my cobs.
8 out of 15 and so far no mold or objectionable aromas.
I'm pleased.

Cob #9 @ the 2 month mark.

Mimosa Evo - Another of my experiments where I made a cob from 2023 season herb that had been very meticulously aged in Grove bags.

With the experience from previous cobs I confidently never opened the traditional husk. Since the herb was already cured I figured mold would not be an issue.

At this point I've abandoned using the corn husks.
Too much opening and checking them and every time you need a new husk.
But it's a good skill set and I know i can wrap a good one in the future if desired.

1000024040.jpg

1000024044.jpg
Not a lot of terps. A faint pickle smell when first opened from whatever they use on the husks to clean/sterilize them. It's goes away with a little airing
1000024052.jpg
1000024047.jpg
Quite moist cure for something that was last seasons. Wouldnt have thought it was trapped in there? Ive got to do some more reading about "bound" water and curing tobacco and stuff.
1000024057.jpg
Ooh! That looks interesting
1000024049.jpg

Its not dry at all but soft and malleable like some hash can be.
1000024058.jpg

Another positive result. Tried a little. It was smooth but I was already high so not an honest test. Back in the vac bag for another month

I couldn't Cob it all. I really like hash too.
The weather's taken a turn. Its going to be nasty all day tomorrow.

Decided I'll spend it washing my first run of last seasons. 🫧 🪣

My winter harvesting is complete and I managed to cob up an expected dry weight of 6oz 😊 tried different density, moisture, temps and sweat times and now all I have to do is finish the 4 week cure and just hurry up and wait for them to age. This was the most enjoyable harvest ever.
IMG_9502.jpeg

The really wet, pushed to its limit, dark cob had a slight soapy smell when I stopped the fermentation but disappeared quickly and took on a mild unripe banana scent. I dried for 20 hours and then broke it into large flake and eventually peeled apart the individual buds over the next 4 hours to let some more moisture out. It was so satisfying peeling the paper thin buds, they were stiff, tacky, hash oil soaked.
IMG_9472.jpeg
IMG_9467.jpeg
Then I left out a tester piece to further dry and squished the bits back together like a crumble kake and cured for last 4 days. Today it gave me the biggest surprise by having a soft fresh neroli scent and a beautiful oily sheen! Where did that perfume come from?
IMG_9505.jpeg
The tester piece I smoked after my first T-break attempt in a decade and I’m a convert. Very stealthy, no smell/taste, no cough. All her usual effects that I enjoy were enhanced but instead of hitting with a punch, she was a total creep. Intensifying waves as tide came in, a bit of head pressure on the peak and slower waves as tide went out. I was entertained for 5 hours before I was ready for something else. And most amazingly no drowsiness, the biggest difference was that I was very alert and “in the moment” for the most part although I still managed to lose time too haha.

The 3 teacakes give me 3 different colours (hard to photograph) but smell quite similar, and there’s a strong warm fruity smell to them. They fill the house with their fragrance. I took a piece from the 48 hour sweat before I put them back and will try that later.

The Colombian jerky stick was done at 24 hr sweat, 3 day fermentation and has been curing 4 days. This one has the coolest range of colours developing, the leaves are almost black and the cob is so shiny it looks wet in places.
IMG_9504.jpeg

And then there’s the 4oz of Colombian squashed hard into a brick under the vacuum and body weight, skipped the sweat and straight to 30C for 3 days. It’s so dense that it’s generating internal heat and I’ve had to re-vac daily as the bag is loose whenever I check. Change happening faster than anticipated. The smell is intensely strong and nothing I can describe but I wish I could bottle it! I’m moving it to cure now, I was planning a lighter touch with this one but I guess I don’t have a light touch! I can’t wait to take a bite out of this in 9 months!

And lastly I tried sweating some loose buds in a mason jar 24hr sweat, 24hr ferment, finish burping jars as normal. They were pretty wet and I don’t think this technique was great as the smell/taste is gone but it gave me instant smooth refined no-cough smoke and all the effects remain intact, not any different from the raw buds. I’ve mostly been using them for chewing and making tea. They do taste much better than decarb’d buds but the effect is a bit lesser, maybe needs more time. What’s quite fun is brewing 2-3 with some tea and chewing them one at a time as I drink. I can feel the effects building from the chew, then the tea and for the next 90 minutes or so it’s like I can feel when each swallowed bud kicks in and intensifies the buzz. If I do this technique again I will use drier buds at a lower temp but really I was just looking for a short cut to a cob-light experience while I impatiently wait for my collection to mature.

Next harvest in 12 weeks so that will be a good time to sample and choose how to proceed with the next lot. I’m off to test the teacake.

Stay healthy and high all you wonderful cobbers!

Outstanding selection of cures my friend there are going to be some beautiful cures from that lot, give them 3 months minimum before chewing 9 months will be reaching their peak taste and effect wise.
Absolutely love the color spectrum thats a sure sign of fruit to come great job.

Ooh black cheese sounds delicious! It’s been at least 15 years since I’ve had any cheese😌

I’m still chasing that energy boosting laughing gas no ceiling sativa high like the Swazi I remember and Tangwena’s trip reports about going to see Alice make me wet for..

but I genuinely enjoy all kinds of cannabis and adore good hash. Each has their own place in my apothecary. First time I saw a cob I thought “that’s whole plant full spectrum aged hash!” 😍

Then it was one of your posts way back in this thread where you described one of your cobs being like the best hash in Pakistan and it really stood out to me because that’s what I originally imagined and there’s not a lot of Indica/hybrid proponents amongst this group so it was very cool to hear experience about this technique from “the other side”! I took note.

And also your talk of preferring the darker cures piqued my interest and convinced me that I would just have to try all the variations for myself. I don’t know what I don’t know yet. And that’s a beautiful thing.
This cheese was quite a nice surprise since it was from a freebie seed I received years ago. It wa the first time I had any cheese for years so very grateful it worked out. I wish I could share some with my fellow cob enthusiasts. I pray that laws will change soon to allow for such a pleasure 😁

Once you experience the magic you get the fever and the only cure is more Cobbing 😝 the best Pakistani hash I was blessed to experience was so smooth and so stoney because of the aging process that type hash goes through to achieve that quality. Knowing that made a lot of sense as to why Cobbing the hash plants is essential for my success. So far everything that goes through the process transforms into something magickal 🪄 like you said, it’s similar to hash. Smoking authentic charas and hash always led to uncontrollable chortling 🤣 and I am certain it is due to the aging that these uplifting effects can be fully developed.

I am blown away by the photos you’re sharing 🤩 amazing looking herb, loving all the colors! You are onto something special here 🙌🏼
