What's new

Malawi by Ace Seed Co.

So I finally had time and space to start some long over due projects. Ace Malawi happened to be one of them. Been very excited to start these for awhile. 6 Malawi seeds went into RO water for 24 hrs and then into paper towels for an additional 48hrs. From there into solo cups of Fox Farm Happy Frog soil.

6/6 100% germination. And these are a few years old, stored in a dark cabinet.

Can't wait to see what's in store for these seeds! Heard the Malawi is very strong.

:tiphat:

Thanks. I'll have more pics once they start developing above ground. I have the light low and close to reduce early stretching to make sure I have more space to work with them. Seen these things turn full bush

do you veg them or 12/12 fs? or outdoors?
they are very strong growers with strong branches and good stretch but it´s managable..there are sativas with even more stretch like guatemala from what i experienced lately : )

Update: starting to veg well. A Lil pH stress from a few rushed waterings early on but back on track. Will be moved to 18/6 soonish. Just fed for the first time today, they were looking hungry

Hi Cannabliss420,

Thanks for starting your Malawi diary :) I'm glad you have had perfect germination.
Seedlings will start to grow vigorously after a transplant to a bigger pot with rich soil.

Let us know if you have any doubt during their development. Best wishes!

I take it these are old killer? I have 1 old killer and 3 new killer I just started also. Good luck, can't wait to see your grow!

You know I'm not sure @stoned40years. I got these seeds about 2 years ago if that helps? Maybe dubi knows.

That Black Death sounds killer bro.

I have a question if anyone knows the answer? I have 2 taller and slimmer pheno's and 4 shorter pheno's. Anyone know what these markers are from which Malawi parent? I'm assuming the taller pheno's are the killer dom's?

Update:

Malawi looking good. Transplanted into FFOF and loving it. Going to take clones soon as sexing and early training are the next steps. Ph is between 5.7-6.1 and ppms of feed has been around 500ppm.

The picture above is of one of the taller and thinner ones. It also displays more lateral branching. Is this a Killer pheno? Which pheno's are people enjoying over others?

I'd also love to know any marker traits for the killer. I'm on a pheno hunt for a good male to use to introduce killer traits into an open pollinated strain I'm developing.

tall ? short ? wide leaves ? narrow leaves ? I have seen grows of all of these traits and in my females, but have no idea which are the real killers.

Hi Cannabliss420,

They are looking great, ready to switch them to 12/12.

Are you growing fem or standard (regular) Malawi version ?
What was the packing date of the seeds ?

Malawi killer phenos usually have thinner leaves, good branching, moderate stretching and a flowering time around 12-13 weeks. The New Killer Malawi mother is more compact while the old Killer Malawi is taller and lankier, so different looking females can also produce killer phenos in flowering. Both parental plants have been used in latest Malawi releases (since 2015), especially in the fem version.

There are good examples of Malawi killer phenos from other growers here in our room, subrovka has recently posted a few in his thread.

Let me know if you have any doubt. Best wishes.

Thanks for responding dubi.

They are Regs (standard). And as for packaging date, I'm not sure. You guys just sent me all my baggies taped together. The labeling on the baggie just says Malawi Standard. I'll get a pic for you guys. I'm assuming they are around 2013 stock as they are about 2 years old atleast.

And thanks I'll check out those posts you mentioned! :tiphat:

Update: 4 of the 6 Malawi have been pre-sexed as female's with 2 that haven't shown yet. Took clones the other day. Looking pretty good. The back 6 are Malawi and the front one is a Pineapple Cheese male
