I ran a pack of bodhi's open pollination of African seeds malawi gold indoors in the past . It was what I consider my first indoor grow failure . Plants took forever to bud smelled of carrots and when It was finished it was super airy with a headache like high. I give up on pure sativas indoors
hey man, you should try some more manageable hybrids of it first. dont give up! not all sativas are same, maybe just malawi or africans are not your cup of coffee, maybe you would like some south american sativas more, they are very different to africans. dont give up man and try some hybrids bred for indoors.

Pretty buds, for me they might be ready right now. A third of the pistils dark and resin starting to turn cloudy/just a few, and that is all it takes for me.

What type of Malawi is that? The RSC or ACE? Must be good if you are growing it from seeds you made. I have a few of the RSC Malawi starting now.

I tried the ACE Malawi (fem), it became a bush full of stretching stems, I had to bend all ways to keep it managable. It was filled with small chinks of fluffy buds all over. Seemed pretty wild and landrace to me, but took only about 11 weeks flowering untill harvest.

Although it yielded ok (pain in the ass to trim though) and got you high alright, I did not think it was very special or different. Could be just the pheno or my lack of experience with pure sativas ofcourse.

I also got some TRSC/Kwik Malawi 2020 seeds. Anyone got any experience with these?

I grew the Malawi from Ace via Herbies Seeds.

They say...
Malawi is a 100% pure Sativa landrace strain whose origins can be traced back to Southeastern Africa.
53 days in veg, 96 in flower for a total of 149 days (+21 weeks o_O )

Topped and trained sideways until 24" wide and then let go..

She was a light feeder so she suffered a little bit..

Effects as promised :dance013:

I know they say it. it is landrace origin they want to say it is not mixed with modern genetics, but when you take it from native place and select it at different place, it is not landrace anymore imo. I know it is just about terms... if those seeds would be from malawi farmers, we can say they are landrace seeds... but anyway what is the most important is how it smokes and not what term it is...

great job with Africa Seeds version. The ones I grew from a pack, now many years ago, looked much worse (from my inexperience). Afropip's version was a bit hardier in my view and similar (I liked the African Seeds version better). Both had pinkish pistils though and no hint of gold coloration. Loved the bizarre high which was short-lasting and social (to me).
Just harvested a Mal. Pan. plant that threw a gold pheno, which I interpret to come from the Malawi side. It was a quick plant too.

Random Notes:

The big plant is 1/4 old stock Afropips Malawi that grew wild from a seed that fell off the Zamal/Neville Haze mother (from Female Seeds) last fall and survived over winter. Smells like geraniums when fresh and sugar/coconut/cologne/mint/floral after a cure. 1/4 Cindy 99 is in there as well, which helped with resistance against powdery mildew along with flowering time. The high is the best, most positive and visually trippy cannabis I have ever smoked, 0 paranoia/anxiety with trippiness. The purple one in the second pic is 50% Malawi, 25% cindy99 and 25% Pure Power plant, so a cross of Afropips Malawi C99 and MPPP seeds I bought about 15 years ago. If the same Malawi male was used for both hybrid crosses, the male definitely had a very visually trippy quality, makes trees/leaves look like paintings/ tim burton scenes with encanced colour. Both hybrids had these traits so look out for this trait in any repros of Afropips Malawi Gold.

The purple plant smells like spicy pepper and earth. Very energetic effect but less visual.

The wider leaf small plant on the right of the big one is Malawi/Cindy99 F3 and has the most intense visual high, smells like sweet grass/licorice and finished the earliest in Toronto mid Oct.

They were all heavily seeded. Non hermied even with lots of light pollution from growing in an urban environment (likely because of the seeding, which stabilizes them I think).

I have lots of seeds if people want to trade. All have been crossed with an early finisher thin leaf Malawi x (c99xpure power plant).

2 plants also not in this pic were Malawi x c99/ppp and smell like tea trea oil and are very resinous, but have more of a hybrid sativa effect than the others which are almost pure sativa in effect. None of these strains have paranoia or a crash.

On a side note:

As long as an NLD heavy in landrace genes starts flowering by mid September in colder climates, I would consider fully seeding them as they will then finish in 6 ish weeks if grown under full sun and in full health. They may start reflowering when the seeds are ripe, but the bulk of the flower will have cloudy trichomes and can be harvested. The plants' huge size compared to indicas will make up for the reduced yeild from seeding, but you get a finished product with incredible effects that come from finishing and NLD in full sun (and maybe also not being sexually frustrated hehe).
You end up consuming seeds husks and sugar leaves which are very resinous, but which is exactly what sensemillia bud is, just minus the seeds. When drying, the seeds also keep sucking the nutrients and sugars from the drying plants as they continue to ripen (from 95% to 100%) so you don't have to worry about flushing, and therefore in growth, the plants stay greener and happier for longer as you can keep feeding a bit. Seeding outdoor NLDs would obviously also help with preservation. Just a thought...

african seeds malawi smells like haze. sour and sweet and floral woody. maybe some faint rotten citrus fruit to it. some phenos taste awfully though... nasty earthy oily taste. bleh bleh

some phenos tastes okay. but sure its the effect where magic of this genetics is placed... I would say it has remarkable consistent potency as a line, almost at every pheno, I have huge tolerance, smoking haze hash everyday, and I give it 8,5 for sure, without curing.

some phenos have flat and boring effect though. and not so long lasting. pheno1 has long lasting effect though, nice 3 - 4 hours for sure. and I would not say it is electric, but it is jittery and racy a little, and gets me pretty high. zero body or heaviness. cerebral as it can be...
