Making your own seeds

I have a question. I am not at all versed on breeding but I do know how to make seeds. My question: If I have regular seeds of let's say AK-47, and I fertilize a branch of a female with the pollen of a male plant from the same batch of seeds, will those seeds be stable and will they be of good quality AK-47?

yup they will be just as good as the seeds that you purchased i do this all the time in order to never have to buy that strain of seeds again

If possible use the best female and male, or use several males on the keeper female to keep versatility in the line. You may find a little more variety in the f2 generation. I love digging through f2's!

Good quality yes, stable no. Ak 47 is a f1 hybrid. Breed it and you will get f2s. The most unstable of all generations. You will see the widest variety of phenos in those seeds.

Not a bad thing, if you wanted you could work the line to be stable. Anyway making f2s is good, like the above poster said. Tada why pay for more of a strain. I look at buying a pack as buying a strain. Either clone it or make seed. Before i cloned i made seed. Now i can do both.

Now say you took a stable strain, like someones jack (f8) and bred it you would have stable seeds, but f8s are pretty much ibls. If you breed later generations or inbred lines (ibl) you can expect homogeneous offspring. It dosent need to be a f8, but the farther the generation, the more stable the breed.

Id make ak f2s, and if i had other cuts going, maybe a ak cross or 5...

Making seeds is great, its a fun hobby, and can save you money. If you cant keep clones, or cant clone, then make seeds. Growers around the world make seeds for the following year... Or for fun. Or for a living, some guys make a decent living doing it...

Hell id take ak47 a few generations. Id love a stable ak. Lol id cross it to jack in a heartbeat

I like to do open pollination if I am trying to preserve a strain...single matings might miss something ... I take all males and females and let em have an orgy....use clones and keep em smallish for ease......yeehaw... the more stable your strain is the easier it is to reproduce offspring the same as the parents...with hybrids the kids can be all over the place...inbred lines and such are easy ..so generally if you grow a strain and the plants are similar ,usually the seeds will be too..

make your own fem beans if you can then you don't have to worry about sexing. just toss them in and flip when you get ready. there is a great thread on here about making colloidal silver and making them and it does work 100% so far.
