Cheaping out on filters will get you problems..if the neighbors smell it, you might be busted.

thanks to everyone for their advice and experiences. I'm glad to get real answers, as opposed to harsh comments I've seen on other boards when approaching this (and other) security questions. As far as buying from growshops amd the like, he's definitely keen on staying far far away. Since he has been an active heirloom gardener for years now, he's got enough contacts through real farmers and horticulture stores to get those supplies without raising alarm. And with his green thumb, he's really going to do this right.

On the post about the carbon scrubber, is it really necessary to buy one? There seem to be lots of good constructed models in the DIY threads. Again, this guy is definitely not looking at doing a large scale setup, probably something close to size as the IKEA cab setups...

Thanks again.

i've used several different DIY carbon filters and they worked great...

here's a thread...

i also recommend a small ozone generator designed for home use...

Don't send cash...send a Walmart or convenience store money order. If it is lost in the mail, you can get you money back with the receipt...takes a while but I have gotten my money back for other stuff like socks, underwear that m.o. got lost in the mail...

i send cash, if it's lost, it's gone, but i still sleep soundly at night knowing my cash cannot be traced. a money order can be traced to the store where its bought and your face just might be on video some where...

my way is safer, but you run the risk of losing it all. a chance i gladly take. never have lost a dime ;)

Don't sell, don't smell, don't tell; seems to keep the small personal grower off the radar.

That's such an important point! What does it matter if you're stealth on seeds if you can't keep your grow secret. Yeah, you want to trust "friends" but they'll kill you intentionally or accidentally. Be very careful, learn to keep secrets. If you wanna be known as a "cool cat king grower" get ready to pay the price.

smell
sell
tell

this is all you need to know. a lot of people get seeds delivered to thier home/grow. i personally dont do this at all but even they dont usually have issues

I have used HTG to order from and they always ship in plain brown boxes. And GP why not just pay cash for a money order, much less likely to get "lost" than cash.

if my envelope stays sealed and the scotch tape i use to keep the money between the paper order form doesn't lose a grip my money is safe.

i know it sounds outlandish and it probably is, but even paying cash for money order that can be traced to the store and time it was sold could allow for your face (on store video tape) to be seen by LEO's...

i just take the route that leaves the least amount of evidence and tracking. like i said if i lose some cash, that's the price of having security in a world where i am breaking the rules...

you guys with your money orders and credit cards are all okay in my book, i just won't allow that kind of exposure to myself... that's all... :tiphat:

PO Box is useless unless you live somewhere not attached to you in anyway, since you need ID to open one. You could commit fraud and use fake ID but they need 2 forms and it's a bigger crime than the one you're trying to cover, makes no sense.

Using a fake name is terrible advice as well. First off the post man might not even deliver it to you, they can put a form on your door and you have to fill out everyone who lives there. They do this when they see a new name they're not used to at the residence. Also think of it from a plausible deniability point of view. If you get a package with a fake name, your story that you didn't order it is a lot less believable. When it has your real name you could say someone is trying to frame you, but when it has a fake name it seems like you're covering something up. It offers no protection and adds more risk to use a fake name.
