Mac Tokers?

Any other Mac heads out there? Maybe this belongs on another site, but I know I spend hours reading IC Mag on my Mac!

I'm envious of all the cool schematics and drawings ICers have posted in their threads demonstrating new or existing ideas for cabs and equipement. Anyone know how do this on the Mac?

I've drawn up schematics on Appleworks for my grow-machine and NGB inspired cab but I can't get them to upload to IC since the Mac doesn't want to save the drawing as a '.jpeg' file, keeps adding suffixes like 'cwk' and 'rtf'. I've tried to cut and paste into 'Preview' software, but didn't work. Safari kept crashing, and it didn't work with Firefox either. Its pissing me off!

Any other software you know of that will do this? I just downloaded ZeusDraw from the Apple site, but it will only save as .jpg.zs!

And just because I'm a goon:

Macintosh G4 Sawtooth (with mods):

Processor 1.2 GHz PowerPC G4
2MB L3 cache
1.25 GB SDRAM
Video Nvidia GeForce4 MX

Hey Man whatup? I smoke weed and work on macs all day! I have a macbook and a Dual 2.0 G5 tower with a 20" cinemascreen. Both are running the latest updates of tiger and are some of my most prized possesions second only to my glass collection ha.

Hmm, I don't have tons of experience with appleworks. If you don't have Photoshop or Illustrator (which aren't even great for schematics) I would recommend Google's free drawing program. It is called sketch up, ill attach a picture of something I drew real quick to give you an idea of what it can do.

BTW- This is my first post. I have been lurking forever (used to be on OG) and don't usually read the lounge but I saw your post and I just had to reply.

Hey this was my (unfinished) design for a XXL HomeBox grow tent. 21 5-gallon DWC buckets and 2x1000w. This would be a killer setup to build.

Daily and Admiral: That's what I'm talking about! I'm gonna checkout the sketchup right now...

Daily: I sure would like a G5, but I've gotten attached to my current rig and am trying to keep it going! I haven't moved to Tiger (running 10.3.9 right now) since I don't want to tax the system. I've only got so much memory to work with and I'm always adding to my music and photo libraries. At some point I think I'll need some kind of external memory drive to hold music and photos, but I've heard that keeping these files externally can mess up the software function. Do you have any recommendations?

Anyone want to get this thread going as a Mac Tokers Club?

Daily and Admiral: I just installed the Google Sketchup and did a quick trial.... same problem as before, wants to save it as: “.jpg.skp”. Any hints?

Seems like great software. I don't like the 8 hour trial period, that blows! They should give you 10 days at least since its $495.00 to buy the software! Do you guys just reinstall everytime you want to sketch something?

I sure would like to use the software I have!

Yes, switched from Linux to OS X when Tiger was released :joint:

Getting an Intel Mac when they release Leopard as well, thinking a Mac Mini or an iMac.

:kitty:

Edit: I got an 12" PowerBook G4 with 1.5GHz PPC CPU, if you wanted to know..

You have to go to File > Export> and save it as a jpeg. That should help.

Daily: I'm not given the option for File>Export in Appleworks or Textedit... thanks for the help! Any other ideas?

Anyone know how to edit your IC signature to show your IC thread links? I can't find any instructions for this in the FAQ or Forum guide.

I think you have to put the links there manually..

I entered the links in the 'Edit Signature' section of my control panel using the hyperlink icon in the 'guided mode'. I don't know anything about this stuff, but its the icon that looks like the globe. Cool!

The colors were a bit tricky... you have to place the color coding before and after the title of the thread, then . Now I'm stylin'!

Seriously, I think that the only drawback to a mac is not being able to run Windows programs, but now with the Intel chips, the macs run windows fine.

They are also generally considered to be more expensive than PCs, but given the features, they are a pretty good deal. The macbook is 1099 for the basic model, and it should be plenty fast for you doing most things.

After using OSX, I hate using windows, and I was a lifelong windows user. And I had windows set up with all the anti spyware/virus stuff, but OSX is just so much smoother.

now security wise. All PCs are basically a glass door to an experienced hacker. is theree anything mac does different with security or no?

While I agree with everything you said above it IS important to note that if you are a MAC ONLY user, even with the new Intel macs you can not run windoze.

YOU have to have a PC (or HAD a PC and kept the OS) They can not (apple) get you access to the OS and its not that easy to get "legally"... although that may change w/their new OSX lite OS due "any day now"!

Actually, started on Vic 20s, went through C64's avoided the Plus 4s but bought a 128 until I discovered the Amiga and the Video Toaster.....

Stayed with them until C= went under, bought a mac simulator for the Amiga and eventually went to the Mac..... Still with the Mac but also have a few PCs including an XPS full out game machine (I bought for Video BUT the Mac is BUILT for Vid, so my son uses it to play games.....)

So at this point I am fluent in both camps.... But mostly use my G5 for video..
