Lumatek is all I will use unless forced other wise....

Lumatek is all I will use unless forced other wise....

I have several both 1000 and 600s that have been running for literally 2 years straight and not a single problem. I just bought 6 more...... love them. I know there use to be some issues but I have never seen one except I had one that failed to kick on after about 1 month of 12/12 but I called Lumatek directly.... they had me send it to them at their cost and they sent me back a new one with next day delivery. I only use HPS EYE from Hortilux so don't know about the other bulbs. I have used a couple of other ballasts in the distant past but most have little computer fans that aide in cooling..... when that fan stops or burns out...... YIKES....... luckily I smelled the wires starting to melt BEFORE there was a fire. Lumateks don't use anything to cool and get fairly warm but never too hot to touch.

Well worth the extra money in my books.

Peace

if you got the money go for it.... i can't imagine it being too much better than the other electronic ballasts, just don't bother with magnetics and you'll be great.... if they make air-cooled ballasts thats perfect

I have (3) 1000 watt 120 volt lumatek purple ballasts. One of the units, out of the box, 16 days into flower, it burned out the timer, and then burned out the bulb.

The rest are working fine.

I'm waiting for the next generation of digital ballasts before I commit.

2 400W Lumateks here, couldn't be happier! I use the regular bulbs, one MH and one HPS and get my full spectrum at a fraction of the cost of those fancy bulbs.

I tryed alot of digi ballast,

Ballast DEAD
4 hidhut 600w
2 hidhut 400w
1 futurebrite 600w
ballast still alive:
1lumatek 600w 2yr old...and I just bought another lumatek(2009 model).

im also using a coil ballast....my problem here is the brownout like when my AC or my home furnace start the light will dim, and this is not good for the digi ballast. anyway i love Lumatek ballast.

the guy at my hydro shop is giving 1 free lumatek ballast when you buy 10 coil ballast and he says everyone is making the change.

edit: my lumatek 600w light up any bulb even 400wmh and 430w its very nice when you wanna veg with it

I picked one up today, and after an hour of use could not touch it for more than a few seconds without it burning my hand.

Back to the shop I see. Thank god they are open on Sundays......

Might just be a bad ballast though, but happy I was around and tested before leaving it to do it's thing. Good plan with any electrical devices you are unsure of. Watch them for a few hours to see what they do.

The only ballast I use are lumateks.. Run Hortilux bulbs with no issues what so ever. Never had any burn out.. 120v 600w's, 240v dual 600w's, 120v 1000w. All work great still. My only ballast to go out was a galaxy 400w

Man my 1000w 120v lumatek is completely and i mean COMPLETELY SILENT... and although its not chilly when you touch it its much cooler than any other E ballest ive ever run ...like you said maybe it was just a bad ballast but yea i love my lumatek.... i hope you have better luck with grabbing a ballast tomorrow

Just bought 2 more, 1Ks to add to my 400s. They all get fairly hot to the touch, I can pick up the 400s and hold them while they run but it is not exactly comfortable. The 1ks are SILENT and run hot but wtf it is still running a 1k bulb so I expected that, difference between it and a core and coil is that the lumatek is completely cold less than 1 hour after lights out while the magnetic keeps its heat for hours and hours.

I love them, I trust them and the soft starts are a real bonus. I accidentally plugged a 1k into my common circuit running my house lights, Big screen, PC and GR fans and it didn't even blow the circuit! Try that with a magnetic, would have been changing the fuse for sure.

I changed out the really hot one for a new one no issues. This one is hot, but not nearly as hot as the one that went back. The shop ran it for the day and also said it was running hotter than it should.

Guess it was just my luck to pick a flaky ballast, but happy that I bought one with great warranty and service. That makes up for the little things everytime.

Experienced with Lumatek silver (400) and purple (600) as well as several magnetics. Lumateks are as good as people say they are and plenty reliable for me, but if you're on a budget and you can deal with the noise of magnetic, they are in no way necessary.
