lol... duct tape... sounds like a rape from you...
as for now i just released a bit the strings, but not too much at all... i believe she can handle it for now.

slap a zip tie round them splits

I second that. I split one of my ladies while attempting to lst. A zip tie around the split and one a bit higher up just to bring the two split sides together did the trick. Just dont forget to cut the zip tie that is on the split or else the stem will eventually cut itself.

I use some hemp or cotton string wrapped around the split and a few drops of melted beeswax (dark type). It heals the split perfectly and it works for any king of plant.

My grandfather used this recipe to protect fresh grafts. I belive he also mixed some incence and some sour cherry resin into the beeswax and it had a such nice fragrance :)

Next time try to LST your plants not in the shape of an open Y, but rather in X. This will cause an eventual split to close itself as the plant grows and stretch.

yeah, pretty nice tip hempfield.
as for me i just wrapped around a waxed string to support the stem not to get bigger split. it did the work, but it didnt gave me the chance to LST as i wanted...

I'm rather fond of black pvc tape. By the time the split heals & the trunk gets bigger, the tape gives way, so there's no risk of strangling.
