Looking for good outdoor strain

G

Guest

I'm trying to figure out what I should grow this next go-round for my environment. Climate is what you'd call tropical, and light is around 12/12 year round(13/11 at some parts of the year..but not this one). Looking at growing outdoors & in the ground and would love a good sativa that didn't take forever to finish and was a moderate feeder. Would love a good skunk for the clear high, but unsure of how she'd work in the tropics. Also, budget is pretty low...but a cheap, less impressive knockoff will do just fine. I appreciate any input you guys can give me. I do plan on getting some lowryder just for fun, although my climate, light cycle doesn't really favor this strain(I'll do it anyway).

I recon zamal,malawi gold or some of the other african sativa's would grow very nicly were you are if it's sativa's your after .

I thought about those, but wasn't sure if it was from a drier climate than I'm in. I was looking toward a hawaiian sativa/indica hybrid that showed more sativa dominance, but an african strain does sound good.

Hi GMD, I think you should pic a sativa that is renowned for it's quality of high. When you have a climate like yours, you can afford to grow some of the connoisseur tropical sativas that people in other parts of the world can't grow to maturity outdoors or handle their stretchiness indoors. Take advantage of your location and grow the kind of strain that makes everyone else in the world jealous of your climate.

If you are after an AF strain like Lowryder aswel, as it happens, Lowryder#2 has just been released and is a 100% AF cross of Lowryder and Santa Maria. Santa Maria is a brazilian strain renowned for it high. I think seedsman sell it.

I agree with begee. If you have 12/12-13/11 all year round, most strains that you put outside will automatically flower at any time of year, defeating the whole point of using an AF strain.

Motarebel Killa Queen V2 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Killa Queen 2006
genetics;
75%sativa/25%indica
specifics;
G-13 x C-99 AKA: Killer queen F5
flowering time;
8-9 weeks

This is an F5 of BCGA's Killer Queen. An extreme cross between G-13 and C-99 that produces strong meds for those in need. It combines a very strong cerebral and body stone for ultimate pain relief.
An easy growing plant that benefits from being topped or staked as the ladies get top heavy during late flowering stage. They double in size the first couple weeks of 12/12 and produce a very sweet smelling plant with an underlying dank spice.
KQ 2006 is the result of several generations of sativa dom males used in the breeding process.I've made selections with flavor in mind as neither pheno lacked power.
Hi GMB I live in the high Andes (2,700mt) of Colombia South America (12 12 light year round) and I grow the fantastic local Sativa as well as a few indica. I have no trouble with the light cycle and other then the domestic I veg the seedling inside (CFL) at night for a few weeks before leaving them outside to finish. I havn't grown the KQ down here yet but I am sure it will grow very well in this tropical climate however where I live its pretty dry and I am sure that would make a differnce. As far as lowrider I wouldn't buy it because almost any indoor indica (like my Nirvana Afghan) when planted outside with no indoor veg will make a lowrider single cola like plant three months from seed.
Peace from Colombia

Id talk to PazVerdeRadical...hes growin in the same conditions as you, and i remember him talkin about it being difficult to find strains that would grow out to mature under 12/12. Good Luck

Thanks for the responses guys..didn't expect that many.

Begee, I've been checking out sativa seedbank all night. There's the Paia Hawaiiana, as well as the Pakalolo("crazy weed" translated). I'd probably go for Paia because the pakalolo desc mentions skunk crossing. Maybe I'll get both...great prices.

By the way..I know this is the breeders forum, but anyone know how weed would grow if the medium is relatively untouched, all natural sandy soil approx 150-200 yards(sorry..no meters here) from the ocean? I'm aware of the whole salt water thing, but the other foliage is great

i grow on really sandy soil outdoors, altough i'm far away from the ocean. The biggest problem i have is watering when it gets hot. I had to give my plants ceveral liters of water a day, spread over the whole day

Begee, you could always use a homemade wick waterer. It will water your plants automatically at a steady pace. It's basically outdoor hydroponics. All you need is a container to hold water and synthetic yarn or nylon cord to act as a wick. The water will be drawn from the container through the wick and into the soil.

Drill two holes in the top of the water container. One for the wick/wicks and one for refilling with water. You can feed the wicks through plastic tubing and lightly cover them over with sand/soil along the ground if you need to hide them. When they reach your plants, let the wick protrude out of the pipe/hosing and let the wick circle your plant just under the surface.

If you have several large plants to water close to eachother, use a plastic or metal drum/barrel and feed several wicks from it. You can camouflage the barrel/container if needs be with paint in a typical camouflage pattern and hide it amongst vegetation. With loose sandy soil like yours, you could even bury it into the ground.

If your soil is sandy and the climate is hot and dry, feed your plants with thicker or more numerous wicks. Wick watering will free you from having to visit your plants regularly. Wick watering also makes for much more efficient use of water because it is a steady drip supply that the plants can utilise fast enough for there to be little or no run off. Which means you have to carry less water.

Went ahead and ordered today.
Figured I'd try for a full spectrum of stuff, just to have in my "stable", if you will(first ever order..other grows are from bagseed or "insert strain name here" from a friend).
Went with :
Paia Hawaiiana from Sativa Seedbank
Hindu Kush from nirvana.(can't go wrong with 15 bucks..expecting super squat plants for my climate/light cycle with this one)
Lowryder. I know that my environment isn't great for lowryder, but I figured it'd be good to keep around for whatever. You never know when you may need something like this.

Also, the sandy soil here stays pretty moist about 3-4 inches inder the surface. I'm hoping that once the sativa gets to be about 2 weeks old, she'll just shoot right up.

gmb: in your climate you should be able to grow anything. the only thing stopping you would be most and pests.
you picks are good. that hindu kush should finish up pretty fast, then be patient with the sativa.
i highly reccomend conditioning the soil you already have. look up some organic soil mixes, tons of info on here. with sandy soil you will lack humus, which feeds mycorrihae in the soil.
"feed the soil, not the plant" is the idea for outdoors. boosting with guano teas is also good.
peace

How would you reccomend going about conditioning the soil if I'm not going to be putting it in pots? Should I just find my plot, and add ammendments to it..maybe several inches under the soil?

Also, I've got this crazy idea that the kush(assuming I get a good strong indica pheno from what is probably a kush/skunk cross) will flower almost automatically and leave me with a very small, and possibly single cola, plant. I actually like this idea. You think this will happen?

this will definately happen most with every indica styled plant , that needs indoor some serious veg time , so i guess you want to plant some sativa seeds too ;) that you insure some bigger plants :tongue:
MOD offers some nice haze crosses that would be awesome in your climate

That's what I was hoping for. Later, I'd love to get a good early indica-style plant with a good sativa/indica high to harvest every couple/few months. Yield won't be great, but it'll give me that heady high with half the time of a major sativa. Definitely going to get some sativa going also. Figured she'd probably go a good 6 months until ready to harvest. By that time, one or two plants will keep me good for about a year(I don't smoke too much anymore). Definitely got to keep you guys updated when it all goes down.

out of my outdoor this last season, dj short true blueberry, bubba kush, and an unknown sativa responded the best. they were the most resilient by far.

Been checking out the MOD seeds. Look great, and it's great to know it wan't crossed with skunk at some point. Currently going to run Paia Hawaiiana from Sativa Seedbank(price reasons) for my sativa. I imagine there's some skunk/indica in there, but I'd love a good haze/mod to grow out there aswell.

Any suggestions for a good early strain with some nice sativa high to it(like c99, etc).

in your location u should do well wiht some c99 ,, ideally u want something that can grow to a decent sized plant that will yeild and also be a good smoke ..
i live in the same latitudal location i would say , all yu need to do is get your plants growing fast and most will yeild well in quite a short time ,,
do a bit of trial and error with what will work for u ....

I'd recommend celestial temple sativa 1000 times over. Very mold resistant and under real sunlight it makes some stunning herb. Ethiopian highland is another excellent faster tropical strain. Afropips nigerian should be phenomenal also. You can't get annabiogen's caribe to produce mold and its excellent herb great for a tropical location. My c99's don't get real tall outside but yield decent although mine are f1 x f2 and are probably less appropriate the wallyducks are.
