Long veg vs short veg --> Quality differences?

Heyo, thx man, good info to confirm.

I agree that "basic" selection (with the main focus on the final product quality/potency) could be done most efficiently by flowering from clones as soon as they rooted.

I am currently deliberating just what you mentioned Dropped Cat...
"Do I flower from clones because I can flower more plants faster this way and determine quality of buds faster this way?"
or
"Do I flower the Seedplants after having taken backup clones, so I can not only make my selection by quality of buds but also already include growth patterns etc. in my selection process?"

Basically it would be "Select once but slower" vs "Select twice but kinda faster".

Haven't made up my mind yet.

Lights (for the veg and clone tent) and the ventilation (for all tents) is currently what keeps me busy.
Otherwise I am making good headway but still have a lot to plan...

Will keep anyone interested updated, just will take a while still.

If space (or lack thereof) is a deciding factor for you, i´d send the Seedplants into flower and keep 2 Backup clones of each because these take up a lot less space.

Personally, i´d wait for the clones to take root before going 12/12 on the moms. I always do.

Currently, i´m doing both with an SPG: I´m sending the mother as well as 5 of her cuts (in smaller pots) into flower all at once...

Terpene manipulation... That's a good one but I would guess it's best in organic soil. Most people would agree that natural environments are best for adding flavor. Keep T and light in check and grow is organic soul medium looking for full spectrum terpene seeds and then u'r set

i've grown the same clones from no veg to several months veg. the end result is all the same. the only thing that effect potency etc besides what is inherent to the plant is the length of flower. longer you flower the more potent. flavors and smell vary based on maturity.

Yeah, no fuckin way I send anything into flower before the clones rooted and have proven to be healthy. I ain't risking losing any phenotypes :D

@sunglasses
I would add light and general environmental factors, such as soil, nutrients, etc. .
It is MOSTLY genetics but the key environmental factors play an important role in quality/potency as well.

@organic weed

Yes, I am aware and long-term it is my goal to go organic.
However it has been a decade since I last grew and I decided to go with the Lucas Formula and Promix until I have everything dialed in.
I also don't have the opportunity to make my own compost teas/organic nutes from the start.

So I decided to start with the Lucas Formula and Promix, dial everything in and in the meantime get a compost going. Once the worms are doing their work and I can reliably produce the major part of my compost/organic nutes myself, I will gradually switch to soil and nutes.

I will also work with RO (reverse osmosis) water at the start, until I have everything dialed in.
Later on, I will use water from a local well. I am convinced that water is the shit, it has actually been tested by several institutes and found do be superior to any water for miles and miles and miles including tap water, other wells and all the available brands of water you can buy.

I also do notice the difference on my own health when I drink water from that well exclusively, compared to drinking tap water or purchased water.

It is just much better.

But it will have its own PH, EC and nutrients inside which I will have to dial in.
I want to avoid that at the start and gradually switch to organic, once I know I am not making major mistakes in other areas.
