The last place I want to be is auto locked in the store with armed robbers.

They just had a "First 48" where a guy held up a gas station/store, as soon as he went to leave the owner hit the auto lock, so the guy turns around, shoots him dead, and then smashes his way out.

They need to stop them from getting in, not getting out.

Not the same as what I'm talking about. This is a safe room from where you dispense the meds. You hit the button and it seals you into this room. and locks the door. This is what I would have. When the police arrive you can unlock the door from the safe room.

I seriously don't understand the gun laws in USA and they wonder why so many deaths and armed hold-ups, im not saying that the guys who held up this pot club had them guns legally but come on a damn UZI who needs an UZI other than military, Its a shame really and not a good look for the dispensary's as security and safeness should be there number one priority...

Ahhh, I see, different deal.
I agree that does sound like a good idea, a little weed panic room.
I'd cut gun ports in mine though, so I can shoot at the robbers from inside.

First of all it wasn't an UZI, thats what the media calles it to cause hysteria, It was a SEMI automatic pistol that has an apperarence of "sub-machine" gun. Its a 9mm semi-automatic weapon, just the same as any handgun........but UZI sounds so much sacarier doesn't it? No military would use this weapon....to underpowered and not automatic.

Criminals don't obey gun laws anyways

I think we forget that cannabis is worth allot of cash. If I had anything that is worth protecting the first thing is security. I want to come home to my family. You should have security just like a bank does or even better.

It's interesting because CA has some of the tightest restrictions on guns in the nation. The people that wonder why there are so many hold-ups are not paying attention. It's not the guns that are holding people up.

Precisely.

You take away the ability for law abiding citizens to own guns and it will only effect law abiding citizens. And it will give non-law abiding citizens certainty that they will have the upper hand should they decide to take advantage of the law abiding ones.

I'm all for common sense gun control. Unlike many other pro 2a'ers I don't think owning guns should be a right. But, I think it should be a right to prove that one is competent enough to own a gun, at which point their level of competency should give them access to certain classes of firearms. Furthermore a regular (yearly?) renewal of the privilege should be required for continual ownership in order to demonstrate that people can safely and responsibly operate them.

Criminals will always have guns. The AK-47 is the most widely distributed firearm, and has killed more people than any other. There is a reason for this. It is easy enough to manufacture that handicapped people in Pakistan, who have no tongues and missing fingers, can churn the things out from scrap metal left over from the soviet invasion and scrap wood. The mythbusters made a cannon out of duct tape. Lets be honest, you will never be able to legislate away the problem.

If we want to get to the bottom of the issue we need to seriously look at the elements influencing the standard of living for people in this country. Education (for parents as well as kids), Income Inequality, The lack of viable alternatives (trades for instance) to college for adolescents, the lack of viable opportunities which provide a rewarding alternative to crime, and many other issues which nobody seems to take into account when complaining about the damage that an inanimate object does on society.

Edit: Benji, I think the point that Greenlung was trying to get across is illustrated by this:

how much could it be to hire one armed security guard? And to come up with a buzzer door so that only medical ID'ed people could enter?

I'm sure there are those who will disagree; but, these clinics should have armed security. I mean there's not just money to steal there you know. There has already been a couple murders at one shop I heard on the news. It's not just for the safety of employees & property, but the patients too, are at risk here.
