I have two more Blueberry's (#3 and #4 to finish the series) and two Afghan-Hawaiian (both #4 of the clones).
This was about 20 Jan 2015. The Blueberry were quite slow to gain height, but the AH's took off. I had to bend the tops of them, plus trim them back before the Blueberry caught up.
All on one side to catch the breeze. Every day they got rotated one space to the left. At this stage they were watered by hand.
This is today, 2 Feb. They are now on auto-feed as mentioned earlier. I've trimmed them back about 6" each and they are still right up to the lights. But they have to wait until the Ladies are done next door.
I've also started training them a bit so they'll fill the cabinet with as many wonderful buds as possible.
And since I have no interest in losing the Blueberry or the Afghan-Hawaiian, I needed a place to get them started. They're the 13 on the left. I also brought a dozen seeds back with me, so they're in the "empty" pucks on the right. Unfortunately, I don't know what they are, although "Oh My God" was mentioned. I checked and couldn't find it, though there is an "Oh God", "God Bud", and "BC Sweet God" (and probably others) so I guess I'll just have to grow it and smoke it and share it with enough people until I find someone who can identify it. Harvest should be around the end of summer, so it looks like we're having an Autumn Equinox party.
The two T5's (6400k) are mounterd to a piece of 1/4" plywood. A piece of stair rail is attached to the top of the plywood (to keep it rigid) and one end of the rail is screwed to the metal bracket of the arm. A chain is attached to the top of the metal bracket and acts as a cantilever to hold the other end of the fixture suspended. And yes, the arm used to be a monitor stand.
Very handy for moving the light out of the way for tending the babies.
The base is a work-mate that I've had kicking around for over a decade. I finally found it a worthy purpose.
The Blueberry's started showing signs of new growth a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure exactly what causes this, or if it's even bad. In reading Blynx's post on all his grows it seems there are strains that foxtail toward the end of flowering. Is Blueberry such a strain? I don't know.
But here are the various factors that have likely played a part:
The buds that are showing this new growth are right next to the CFL
I had to remove the fan to use on the other 4 plants and it's warmer in there than it should be
Because I removed the fan, I didn't zip up the door (hoping for more air flow). I just closed the outer door so there may have been light leaks
I'm looking into finding a perfectly light-tight solution for the next batch. In the meanwhile I've got all the seams covered so the light leaks are gone. And I'm taking them down in a week anyway. After that I'll be doing some renovations and upgrades before starting the next 4 on flower.
And after reading Blynx's post on the SCROG where he forced two plants under the screen, I'm thinking that at least one of the next batch will be done that way. That was totally awesome!
I also realized the importance of close-ups. In reading other posts and seeing the beautiful greenery, I was always grateful when the author included a close-up of the buds. So I'll be posting a few once the lights come on. In case anyone is interested.
I love the smell of blueberry in the ... HELL ANYTIME!!
I love the smell of blueberry in the ... HELL ANYTIME!!
The two Blueberry's came down tonight. Well, sorta. They got snipped, then got hung upside down, so technically, they're still up, but in reverse, which is kinda down ... you get the idea.
Anyway, here are some shots of the before and after (so far).
In the process of snipping the ladies, I also gave the flowering cabinet a thorough cleaning. During which cleaning I came upon something rather nasty. The first picture is the shelf that forms the bottom of the flowering cabinet. It's out of the cabinet, laying on my shop floor, with the white poly still laying on top. This is what I've been seeing for the past few weeks.
This is what I found between the poly and the shelf:
And the underside of the shelf:
Needless to say, the leak has been handled. Always seal your joints. Good advice, that.
And since this particular cabinet came with another shelf that didn't get used when I first put it together, I had a handy replacement right at hand. Here it is all nice and clean.
You can see the finished product in this shot. The ladies are hanging up and the bin is all nice and clean, ready for the next quartet (which are rather eager to get in there).
And in the germination station, we have some new arrivals! Three sprouts have ... sprouted. Yay!
At the other end of the tray are the clones. As far as I can tell, they're doing ok. That is to say, they're not dead. Because I really don't have that much experience in making clones. I left that to the bountyhunter.
Well, since my last update, I've put the three seedlings into beer cups and into the veg cab under the T5's. Beside them are the two BBs on re-veg. I have them on 150 ppm nutes right now to ramp them back up.
In the flowering hole are the two Blueberry and the two Afghan Hawaiian, now all nicely trimmed and ready for final veg. I plan to let them veg for at least a week. I was hoping to give them three weeks before flipping to flower, but I have a feeling I'll run out of room before then, and I still have to plan for the stretch. They're on 350 ppm nutes.
I actually did flip them when I first put them in there, but then realized that I had just done the trimming and needed to veg them some more. They had one day at 18/6 and one day at 12/12 before I put them back onto full 24 hour light. Here's a shot of them under the 2100k light. It's got a LOT of the red spectrum in it, so I'm planning to move the 4 T5's from the veg compartment to the flowering hole and mount it permanently at the top of the hole, with the CFL hanging down as it is now. With the extra 92 watts of 6500k above them, they should have all the light they'll need. Well, more than before anyway. The 2100k is a bit of an experiment, based on some research and a few recommendations. And the fact that it was half the price of the 2700k.
Here are the four ladies just before going into the flowering hole. All nicely trimmed. Basically, I'm working off the premise discovered in another post here (by Blynx, I think) in which is detailed a brilliant technique for LST'ing to produce ENORMOUS buds. I'd kinda like some of those, if ya know what I mean...
SoG, is Sea Of Green which is many small plants instead of a couple of big ones in your case, a couple of micro ones. Wish you all the best would love to see pics in the future.
