Just a follow up to say this is working GREAT! Thanks again, CC.

I'm storing the unused cilantro tea in a closed container in my fridge. I assume that'll keep it viable as I use it? I've started treating all my plants with it occasionally as you suggested.

This shit kills bugs dead! Do you have a 'hot' recipe to complement that 'cool' one? I'm thinkin cinnamon, tobacco, clove, garlic, habañero as a hot wash alternated with the cool - my neighbor's a doctor of Chinese medicine who keeps a garden and we were spitballing on this idea

A strong comfrey tea yesterday equals very happy plants today

When I buy those little rootballs of Bok 14 do I need to plant in spring or can I go ahead and get them in the ground?

Also is there a best time to harvest alfalfa when max nute accumulation has occured? My new spot has room to grow some of that to

Hot water degrades the active compounds - again they're simply Carbon, Hydrogen & Oxygen chains just like THC

You wouldn't pour hot water over your buds to 'get more stuff' out would you? Of course not.

Generally sometime in Nov. Winters are relatively mild though with most days in the 40-50s

You're good to go then. The roots grow at a rate that is hard to comprehend. Just get a bale of straw and have that in case the temperatures drop lower than normal - just mulch with straw using several inches.

I still maintain that it is impossible to kill this plant.....

CC

EDIT: I just had an idea that might work for your area (weather & temps), plant the root pieces as soon as you receive them. They will grow out some leaves before the colder weather hits. Go ahead and mulch with the straw around the crown of the plant. That cold barrier will be enough to keep the plant growing new leaves however slowly but more importantly it will help to develop the root system which will hit > 15' when the plant is mature - about 18 months.

Thanks for the reply CC - I didn't mean hot water, but 'hot' botanicals (ie spicy instead of minty). Friends are having success with that Mighty Wash stuff which you mentioned was cinnamon oil.

While I was talking to my neighbor the other night, he mentioned that Chinese medicine over the millennia has shifted back and forth between 'cold' herbs like mint and 'hot' herbs like cinnamon - and since both sides of the spectrum seem to kill bugs, I thought I might approach it from this hot/cold paradigm

I was with you, IbB. Cool and minty vs hot and spicy. Looking forward to see what CC (or anyone else) has to say.

Side note--I recently found out I've got a friend that owns a place out in Hood River. I'm hoping to take a trip out there with her sometime.

I completely misunderstood the term 'hot' in this context - I immediately thought hot water. All of the items IB noted are plants you would want to use and with a couple you get funcides as well as pesticides as in Cilantro, Thyme (!!!) and Rosemary. The 'mints' that we think of as 'regular mints' have higher levels of pesticides per se.

All of them will give you fungicides once they bolt and begin to produce flowers - that flavor that we don't like is from the fungicides that are created by the plant. Especially Cilantro - once it bolts the taste is horrible and extremely bitter.

Carry on!

this is an immersion blender:

Hand-Immersion-Blender.jpg

it makes quick work of most herbs and vegetables, can be used right in a bucket, and only has one part to wash. avoid cordless models. i got a plug-in one for 30 bucks and it is pretty much indestructible.

i pureed some aloe with it yesterday and it was a joy. i wanted to drink a glass myself like it was an aloe smoothie. i used a paint strainer to remove the pulp so it wouldn't clog my watering can. here's what i ended up with:

i further diluted that until it looked like the right color and viscosity, and so that i had enough for all my plants.

you can see the diluted mixture to the right in this picture:

here's my aloe plant:

i'm thinking about using some of that pretty bougainvillea debris to remedy the bare-soil situation in my containers....

Katsu Bubba Kush x (Arcata Trainwreck x Neville's Haze) = Bubba's Trainwreck Haze from Rare Dankness.

I just can't figure out why it's so sticky and covered with trichs - the guy at the grow store said it wouldn't be possible without buying all this stuff I couldn't afford...

Thanks guys! Credit for this round goes to you!

what would have the same effect of reversing hydrophobic characteristics in soil, but would be cheaper and easier to apply to my 200 sqft raised veggie bed?

Yucca maybe? High saponin content? I use yucca root powder ocasionally added at end of brew cycle, serious frothing action, a scoop unattended will leave a trail of bubbles 5 feet away from the bucket. I tend to just add some when remixing soil as I will inevitably forget about a frothing bucket at some point in time!

I don't know why I don't already have an immersion blender, thanks for reminding me they exist!

I think I found a new garden center price record! Was in picking up some flowers and herbs, wandered through the fertilizer section - 8 oz. bag of Kelp Meal, $29.99. Couldn't tell if it was some sort of "concentrate", but it seemed to just be regular old Kelp Meal to me.

Exactly....

The forests that have been 'managed' are the least diverse as far as fungi, insect, and native flora and fauna go...they are devoid of the life forms that inhabit healthy undisturbed forests.

All for a few thousand dollars...that's the sick part of it all.

The amount of money generated from this accepted practice is tiny compared to what the human species as a whole could start benefiting from by incorporating hemp production for industrial use rather than forest products.
Hey Gas, and CC, love the knowledge, and had a question for you, or more like a wanted opinion of current global changes, I can say why I think, but love the thread to much to even rock the boat with what some may consider conspiracy junk, so I would just use the obvious signs around our globe like weather, volcanos erupting, wild life dying, some old bugs spiders, and even the plague has made a come back, whats your guys take on this? Is it just man frickin things up like always, or do you thing the outside sources like sun moon, and other orbital bodies can have effect on plant life, and the bugs?

I seen a vid yesterday of footage of the suns solor flair activaty is off the charts, more so than ever seen, and there is so much hush to the actually scientific world it seems bigger, just to me, I find myself solor flairs to be important, but nothing really is talked about on the smart level. I just asked cuz I noticed some errors in my grow, but never figured out what it was, the plants are fine now, but just so happen at the same time we had very weird weather, and lots of world events. Thanks for any response.

Last full moon 3 of 5 of my plants morphed into werewolves and fought with the lettuce. Fortunately the lettuce won....

Just kidding ...Carry on........
